  1. Going in to this game, I thought Webo would win by 10 and I didn't think there was anyway EB was going to score 20 or more.  I thought EB may break a long run or pass play to score once or twice (the reverse put them in a position to score their TD), but I felt that Webo would shut down the running game of EB.

Webo's Starting D gave up 27 points in 6 tournament games (7 to N Put, 13 to TC, 7 to EB).  Coach Brunes is an absolute mastermind as a DC.  He took away everything EB did and with EB being pretty much 1 dimensional they struggled to move the ball.

Spencer Wright was a man on Saturday.  The kid doesn't care about his stats (look at last year to this year) but just wants to win.  Cortez Stoudemire and Connor Hole were dudes on Saturday.  Brett Wethington & Luke Marsh were solid.  And Robby Taylor did what Robby Taylor has done all year.  And Webo's OL & DL were outstanding all day Saturday.

Congrats to EB on a great run the last 4 years.

Congrats to the Stars on going Back to Back!

I've sat back and watched these comments, and here's what I have to say. My 2cents worth, whether you want it or not. Coach Nowlin, you haven't liked Eastbrook since they beat Rensselaer 21 - 3, when you were favored to whoop Eastbrook's butt. Ever since then you have found a reason why Eastbrook would lose to whoever they play. Xstar, 1st and Goal, Sgt DingleBerry, well what can I say about last years game but this. I was there that day. I watched all the games, as I am a high school football fan. And that my Grid Iron fans was THEE most poorly officiated game I have ever watched. Hence why they have instituted "Instant Replay" this year at the State Finals. You should be thankful they didn't have it last year. Otherwise that trophy would be sitting at Eastbrook right now, not at WeBo. And read on before you get your panties in a twist. It is NOT because of the backward pass toward the end of the game with 3:00 minutes left that would have clearly been returned for a TD. Let's go towards the end of the 1st half where the most horrible pass interference call I have ever seen went against Eastbrook. Eastbrook leading 14 - 0. WeBo went for it on a 4th and forever. Safety makes a perfect play on the ball, and gets a pass interference called on them. Eastbrook at the time was steem rolling WeBo at the time. Lucky for WeBo, you ended up scoring on that drive. If they don't call that, Eastbrook gets the ball back I do believe on their 37 or 38, they either score, or at least kick a field goal before halftime. They go in at halftime up 21 - 0, or 17 - 0. Ok speaking hypothetical, but clearly a bad call that clearly would have changed the complexity of that game last year. My 2 cents being, the Refs changed the outcome of that game. Next bad call of the game was another pass interference against Eastbrook in 3rd Quarter, 3rd and long. WeBo ended up scoring on the drive in the end. Again, Refs deciding the complexity of the game. Add in "Instant Replay" guess what, play comes back possibly on one or both plays. Eastbrook wins that game easily last year take away both of those horrible pass interference calls. As for the Andrean game, I watched it streamline, I was told that the Referee said the Andrean player touched the ball at 9 yards, before it went 10 yards. That was the ruling. And sorry, sad but true, that is the rule, if you touch the ball before it goes 10 yards, that is where it is spotted. And guess what, that is where it was spotted. Also on the opposite side of the field it was ruled a catch and fumble. Was his knee down, possibly so, I don't know. Bottom line, when you turn the ball over 5 to 6 times, it is very difficult to win a game. I don't care what team you are High School, College, or NFL. That's football. Come Saturday, the better team will win, the team that is better prepared will win. I am happy that instant replay has been instituted that way the game can be decided by the young men on the field, not by the referee's or the one side line judge last year was a leaning a little bit toward the WeBo side. Since his whistle seemed to blow after the young man picked up the ball after he picked up the fumble and headed toward a TD and would have tied up the game with 3 minutes left. OOOoooops, did I just say that! Have fun with that one! #2centsout

Dumbest post of the year.  I didn’t even read it all.  I read “instituted instant replay” which is wrong... Also, Eastbrook was never up 14-0.

    good day.

Can Saturday be here already?????? I think this will be a really good game. 2 hard nosed teams with 2 great coaches. Win or lose it is special to get this far, in the end these kids from both teams have been proving people wrong all year. I have been saying all year the thing that will hold Eastbrook back is their line on both sides. Then last week our line manhandle a huge Andrean team. Eastbrook had the biggest target for teams in the North, same for Western Boone and teams in the south, yet both found a way to play on thanksgiving weekend again. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best and right now that’s Webo. So my Panthers better come out with energy and focus. Blue or Red ring it is special playing on thanksgiving weekend!

The underline, I agree with (I don’t know enough about the rest)

     Safe Travels Saturday, Panther10.

  4. I don't get how the first incident didn't violate some sort of Child Pornography laws in which the person in possession/took the video wasn't held accountable.  The teacher that "helped" the kid delete the video should be terminated, immediately.

This school terminated an employee for a completely legal (though Catholics deem immorral) relationship.  IF they don't immediately terminate all of those involved they are taking a stand of termination based on sexual preference vs termination of protecting a special needs child.

I then want charges against those responsible... The kids, adults, teachers, staff, etc.  ALL OF THEM

That analogy is spot on. Adjustments for the better have been made.

What amazes me most about this year is that we haven't relied on #16 at all this season. He is obviously a good player, but we've had other guys pick up for him. He has been injured a lot this season. #24 has absolutely changed the season. our underclassmen have contributed more than I would of ever thought. I hear all the grumbling about how we will struggle next season, but with our returners, I see us atleast getting out of our extremely weak sectional. I would of never guessed ( with what both teams lost to graduation) we would be seeing this rematch. Im excited as hell!!

Weakley as a Freshman playing backer has been huge.  What Taylor has done has been impressive.  #16 is a great player no doubt, but others being forced to step up is why this team has improved so much from the Western game to now.  The OL & DL have been really good all year.

This is going to be a great game.

That's more than I thought.  How many of those spots were filled with new starters as opposed to a player who was a starter on the other side of the ball only last year and is going both ways now?

On Offense:  Depends who starts at wing and who starts in the backfield... In the backfield you have Wethngton, Taylor, Irion... Baird has started at wing, but Hole comes in... Marsh, Benson, Stoudemire also play wing.  Garrity starting on the outside, and Hysong/Christner as TE or Durbin at the other Wideout if they are in spread.

On Defense: EY or Bowman at Safety, Trevor Weakley has started some at MLB, Hysong, Jake Jones, Irion, Foster, Halford, all have played D that didn't last year.

I know this is a rematch but I think viewing it as such obscures at least one pretty good story here.

The fact that Western Boone has returned shouldn't really surprise anyone.  Certainly, nothing is guaranteed and they had to earn their way back.  And while they lost some good players from last season, they returned a good number of starters.

This is an entirely different Eastbrook team than what we saw last year in terms of key players returning.  The number of senior starters they lost from last season is crazy.

They started the year dropping 2 tough non-conference games including a blowout at Delta.  But instead of quitting on the season, these players rallied around one another and committed to learning the roles they were being asked to play and executing those at a high level.

Just as importantly, they continued to believe in themselves and have confidence in their teammates to win big games.  That was apparent to me on Friday against Andrean.  Andrean looked the part.  They were much bigger than Eastbrook on both lines and coming off a dominant win over a Lewis Cass team that everyone had penciled in the finals just a couple weeks ago.  Guess who didn't give a damn about any of that?  The Eastbrook players came out confident and believing they were the better team that night, then proved they were just that.

What could easily have been written off as a rebuilding year in this program has turned into one of it's best, with the potential to be THE best still there headed into Thanksgiving weekend.

So while this is a rematch of the same two programs as last season, I think looking at it as such ignores all the best parts about Eastbrook getting back there.

That's fair... I think Webo getting back there did surprise a lot of people... The top 8 receivers from last year?  Gone.  The Starting RB?  Gone.  Replaced 2/5 on the O-Line and the wings (Kernodle, Hendrix).  So Offensive Starters Returning... Wright, Max Johnson, Casey Foster, Jake Jones.  That is it.

Defensive Starters Back.. Caleb Freeman, Connor Hole, Bret Wethington, Cortez Stoudemire, Luke Marsh, Josh Benson.  Shally, Deetz, Devin Weakley, Peyton Young, McAtee all gone.

Replaced about 1/2 of the starting D and 7/11 on Offense (including all of their skill kids except 7).

That isn't to take anything away from Eastbrook.  They battled back and got there.  I think this should be a fantastic game.  Lots of old school smash mouth football.

  8. Webo averaging almost 40 a game while only giving up almost 12.  They are 13-1 and 6-1 against schools larger than 2A.

Eastbrook is averaging 39 a game while giving up almost 14.  They are 12-2 and 2-2 against school larger than 2A.

I think Webo has the best QB (and arguably the best player) in 2A in Spencer Wright.  I like our chances with 7 back there running the show.  I expect this to be a hard hitting, old school type of game.  Should be one of the better games of the State Finals weekend.

ok I don't understand that Southridge wins state in 17 goes to semi-state 18 they have to move up to 3a, WeBo wins state in 18 goes back in 19 why don't they move up(me missing something here) just asking cause if they move up would they be in north or south 3a

the 2019 & 2020 Season will determine if Webo gets bumped up... Just like the 2017 Season and 2018 season determined that Southridge had to get bumped.  It's not the number of points in a 2 year period, it's the number of points in the 2 year CYCLE

Seriously it’s like talking to a brick wall with you WeBo folk...borderline childish/petty.

    Here’s the jist -

    1. Before last year, I hadn’t given 2 thoughts to the WeBo football program as it hadn’t been relevant for quite some time.

    2. You all put it on us last year- plain and simple. Undefeated State Champs- was super impressed.

    3. From that time on, I’ve checked in on  WeBo this season as I knew they had quite a bit returning and a good chance to repeat. (I foolishly thought that would bring them up to 3A- but the system is flawed)

    4. A fan of yours starts throwing shade at another coaching staff and claims WeBo’s staff has WAY more class than others...hit the brakes for a second...I simply cited an example from the WeBo staff that could be seen by others as “laying it on”. I didn’t necessarily think too much of it at the time and still really don’t...we should have stopped it if we didn’t want to hear about it. I was just pointing out some may have seen it as unnecessary.

    - I hope Chris or some moderators will shut this thread down soon as clearly there isn’t much more to be said. Best of luck in the State Championship

I had no problem with them running a play... I had a problem with the TO.  Regardless if they scored or not, we still win.  I just thought the refusal to call the TO’s as we were taking knees then running a play and calling one was bush league.  It wasn’t the TD.. It was the TO.
The TC kids on D were shaking hands and congratulating the WEBO kids (as I’d the game was over).  The TC kids were clapping at their fans (as a Thank You).

WEBO not getting bumped isn’t their fault, but you seem salty that you got bumped and Webo didn’t... We didn’t make the rule.  And as I stated in another post, any rule regarding a success factor/bump up rule you aren’t going to make everyone happy... Just like being a coach or manager... You will NEVER make everyone satisfied.

i have been on this board for 10 years or so & I have never ever called out a coaching staff until what happened Friday.  I am actually pretty objective and understand these are 15-18 yr old kids... Ask @Coach Nowlin.... I typically don’t take shots, but felt this one was warranted for the way it all went down.  I am guessing many coaches on here wouldn’t be thrilled with the way it played out.  Maybe I’m wrong.  Doesn’t matter, it’s done and over.

If you felt that Coach Pelley and his staff were trying to run it up with a bubble pass, then I truly apologize you took it that way.  I promise that wasn’t his intent... He was letting the Freshman run their offense in a Semi State Game.
    (The above is sincere.... Seriously)

Thank you for the Good Luck in the State Game.  It should be a battle.

Didnt WeBo chuck one down field to get to 35,  i dont have a problem with it either way,  the kid that caught the final TD for Triton Central, that was his only TD all year. probably made that kids night. But I keep forgetting, this is an  "Its all about me" world we live in this day. Dont think to wonder why something may happen, or just be happy for a kids to score his first TD. Good Luck in State.

No.  It was “chucked” down the field On 4th down with less than a minute remaining in the 1st half of a 14-7 game.

I just think if a Coach has called off the dogs, takes knees to just run the clock out (as not to embarrass the other team any further) then some mutual respect should be shown.  I guess I am old school that way.  And if I am honest, I think TC knew it was in poor taste too... otherwise why not call timeouts as Webo is taking the knees?  My opinion, because they knew they would get the ball back around the 40  and if they take the TOs then Webo would try to move the ball to run the clock out.

  12. 1 hour ago, jets said:

You mean like putting one in up 42-7 with under a minute to go in the ballgame??

    Careful throwing stones.

Didn’t watch the game but reading the thread I would agree that’s not great on TC’s part - but kuddos to you all for taking 4 knees (maybe the staff learned something after last years SS?) What the other team does is there decision, and they decided to play it out till the end.

Are you talking about a 5 yard bubble pass our Freshman threw to another Freshman against your starters?  Because the last TD was a QB read and the freshman QB kept it and scored after a PF penalty that gave the Freshman a 1st down.  We kneed the PAT.  Lol.

    You’re a joke.

  13. 6 minutes ago, Woody_Hayes said:

So Triton Central was not supposed to keep playing when they got the ball back? What difference does it make if the score is 35-14 vs 35-7? I’m just trying to understand your thought process. Thanks!

It’s etiquette or an unwritten rule.  We took 4 knees and turned it over in our territory.  I imagine there would be people complaining had we continued to run the ball or throwing the ball up 28.  I guess Coach Pelley and his staff have a little more class than most.
