Possibly. It would be a tough sell for the Terre Haute schools. They would be a competitive fit in most sports but the distance to Terre Haute is a significant obstacle to membership in almost any conference. When it was first announced that Harrison and McCutcheon were out of the NCC, I thought they could fit well in Conference Indiana. Adding those two schools would either save the conference or be the final step to kill it. Ignoring geography, it would have made some sense. Southport 2368 Columbus North 2267 Harrison 2169 McCutcheon 1786 Bloomington South 1656 Terre Haute South 1609 Bloomington North 1558 Terre Haute North 1467 I think Southport wants to be in the MIC, and maybe Columbus North goes with them to get in together. Columbus could join the Hoosier Hills instead if they can be in the same conference as Columbus East. Not sure what the Bloomington schools do. Maybe try to get into the Mid-State or Hoosier Hills. The Terre Haute schools would fill in the enrollment gap between the members of the Sagamore if they joined (along with West Lafayette). Harrison 2169 McCutcheon 1786 Terre Haute South 1609 Terre Haute North 1467 Lebanon 1033 Danville 820 West Lafayette 750 Tri-West 606

I don’t see it happening, but if it did, go a step further and make it 14 schools. Split them into private and public divisions with a crossover/playoff in week 9. That gives all teams a 7-game conference schedule and still leaves 2 weeks open for non-conference games. ICC Private: Heritage Christian, Cardinal Ritter, Scecina, Park Tudor, Covenant Christian, Lutheran, Greenwood Christian ICC Public: Beech Grove, Danville, Indian Creek, Tri-West, Speedway, Monrovia, Triton Central

I mentioned on another site that I could see West Lafayette entertaining the possibility of moving to the Sagamore to be a 6th member. Doing so would then put the Hoosier Conference at 8 members. West Side would still have room in their schedule to keep Central Catholic and at least 1 more rival from the Hoosier, plus potentially get Lafayette Jeff back on the schedule. They fit competitively in the Sagamore and the natural rivalries with Harrison and McCutcheon would make it worth considering a move. Here’s an example of what the opponents could look like for Harrison, McCutcheon, West Side, and Jeff. I listed non-conference opponents first, but these aren’t necessarily in order since this is definitely hypothetical. Harrison Plainfield Brebeuf Lafayette Jeff Kokomo West Lafayette McCutcheon Lebanon Tri-West Danville McCutcheon Guerin Catholic Kokomo Terre Haute South Lafayette Jeff West Lafayette Lebanon Tri-West Danville Harrison West Lafayette (Sagamore) Central Catholic Rensselaer Central Twin Lakes Lafayette Jeff Lebanon Tri-West Danville Harrison McCutcheon Lafayette Jeff Cathedral West Lafayette Harrison McCutcheon Kokomo Marion Muncie Central Anderson Richmond

23-24 DOE Enrollments
HoopsCoach replied to HoopsCoach's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Honestly, I am not sure about the tournament eligibility for the teams that played a season of 8 man football. Since these schools have already been IHSAA members and competed in state tournaments in other sports, I am not sure what the bylaws state about their eligibility to play in the 11 man football tournament. -

HoopsCoach replied to HoopsCoach's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Even if those schools have another season before they are eligible, they need to be included in the alignments since they will be eligible for the second year of the cycle. -
I had some similar class splits, but I hope 1A is the largest class. 1A schools are the most likely to not finish a season due to numbers or to drop their football program. I think 1A should always start with 64 teams. The classes with the largest enrollments have the smallest number of schools, so it would make sense in my opinion for 1A and 2A to have the largest number of schools.

Same - I’ve asked an AD and principal at 2 different schools about it. Both requested information about selection of committee members and neither got a reply. Certainly seems that way. -

Yes, @Coach Nowlin would definitely be a go to source. Just thought some data and the possible correlation to the closure of St. Joe would be relevant to share. -

The closure of St. Joseph’s College is probably a factor as well. Here is the enrollment trend over the last 15 years for Rensselaer Central. St. Joe closed in 2017. 2009 - 556 2010 - 570 2011 - 538 2012 - 536 2013 - 523 2014 - 553 2015 - 534 2016 - 531 2017 - 498 2018 - 498 2019 - 515 2020 - 494 2021 - 521 2022 - 468 2023 - 447 -
A few corrections I need to make - autocorrect seemed to get a couple of the nicknames I posted. I also messed up and listed University as the Blazers instead of Trailblazers. Lake Central Indians Shoals Jug Rox University Trailblazers Vincennes Lincoln Alices

It’s a suggestion for sectional assignments made by the poster, nothing official. The enrollments have not been released by the IHSAA. They were pulled from the DOE, so they give a preview of the numbers that could be used to determine alignments for the next cycle. -

Warren Central’s enrollment is down, but almost all of the students lost can be attributed to the Warren Online Academy. If you add the 379 students from the online school to the enrollment at WCHS, it puts them right around the number they had last year (3748 this year, 3788 last year). So their enrollment hasn’t really dropped. I’m not sure if they allow their online students to participate in athletics. Either way, it has no impact on the classification for Warren Central in any sport. -

I forgot to remove South Bend Clay. That school will close at the end of this year. The cut line for the 1A, 2A, and 3A could move depending upon which schools who are new to 11 man football play in the tournament and closures like South Bend Clay which takes away a current football school. -

The DOE has released enrollment data from the fall count day for the 23-24 school year. Here are the enrollments for each school for grades 9-12. I made a tentative split for each class just to give an idea where they could be. Note that there always seems to be a few schools that have slightly different numbers when the IHSAA releases their enrollments for classification. Two schools in particular really stood out as having enrollments that were significantly lower than their 2022-23 enrollments - Rochester and Mitchell. I think there may have been some kind of reporting error. For now, I left them in the classroom they would have been in based upon previous enrollments, but I did list the enrollment that was listed by the DOE. Schools with an * did not report their data to the DOE, so their enrollments are listed as the same as the number they gave the IHSAA in 2022. I included Indianapolis Irvington, Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, Greenwood Christian, and Lafayette Faith Christian since they have moved to 11 man football or plan to do so, and they are tournament eligible schools. I also moved the schools who earned enough success factor points in the current cycle to be in a higher class. 6A Enrollment 1 Carmel 5200 2 Ben Davis 4567 3 Fishers 3664 4 North Central (Indpls.) 3616 5 Penn 3480 6 Avon 3476 7 Hamilton Southeastern 3442 8 Warren Central 3369 9 Franklin Central 3362 10 Brownsburg 3297 11 Noblesville 3208 12 Pike 3192 13 Elkhart 3166 14 Crown Point 2978 15 Lake Central 2961 16 Center Grove 2893 17 Lawrence North 2817 18 Westfield 2789 19 Carroll (Fort Wayne) 2569 20 Indianapolis Arsenal Tech 2500 21 Homestead 2408 22 Lawrence Central 2404 23 Southport 2368 24 Perry Meridian 2359 25 Zionsville 2309 26 Columbus North 2267 27 Portage 2170 28 Harrison (West Lafayette) 2169 29 Fort Wayne Northrop 2158 30 Jeffersonville 2141 31 Fort Wayne Snider 1915 32 Indianapolis Cathedral 1172 5A Enrollment 1 Valparaiso 2140 2 Warsaw 2108 3 Whiteland 2074 4 Decatur Central 2050 5 Merrillville 2050 6 Lafayette Jefferson 2034 7 Goshen 2006 8 South Bend Adams 1987 9 Chesterton 1980 10 Castle 1965 11 Hammond Central 1923 12 Floyd Central 1823 13 New Albany 1814 14 LaPorte 1812 15 McCutcheon 1786 16 Plainfield 1773 17 Concord 1730 18 Anderson 1722 19 Seymour 1719 20 Bloomington South 1656 21 Evansville North 1643 22 Terre Haute South 1609 23 Franklin Community 1590 24 Bloomington North 1558 25 Hammond Morton 1534 26 Michigan City 1520 27 Columbus East 1518 28 Munster 1514 29 Terre Haute North 1467 30 Kokomo 1465 31 Fort Wayne North Side 1460 32 East Central 1241 4A Enrollment 1 Fort Wayne South Side 1459 2 Mt Vernon (Fortville) 1455 3 Greenfield-Central 1430 4 Mishawaka 1422 5 Fort Wayne Wayne 1416 6 Mooresville 1398 7 Northridge 1393 8 Huntington North 1382 9 Pendleton Heights 1353 10 Muncie Central 1332 11 Evansville Reitz 1321 12 Richmond 1320 13 Martinsville 1315 14 Hobart 1298 15 Bedford-North Lawrence 1242 16 Logansport 1226 17 Greenwood 1211 18 Evansville Harrison 1209 19 New Palestine 1209 20 Indianapolis Cathedral 1172 21 Indianapolis Crispus Attucks 1170 22 Jennings County 1169 23 Columbia City 1162 24 Indianapolis Shortridge 1159 25 Shelbyville 1093 26 Jasper 1092 27 Indianapolis Roncalli 1082 28 New Haven 1068 29 Evansville Central 1065 30 Plymouth 1054 31 Marion 1045 32 DeKalb 1044 33 Lebanon 1033 34 East Chicago Central 1009 35 South Bend Riley 998 36 Gary West Side 995 37 East Noble 989 38 Kankakee Valley 989 39 Lowell 985 40 Highland 977 41 New Prairie 970 42 Silver Creek 943 43 Connersville 930 44 Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger 917 45 Frankfort 901 46 Leo 900 47 Wawasee 895 48 Northview 894 49 Beech Grove 892 50 Boonville 884 51 NorthWood 869 52 Charlestown 854 53 South Bend Saint Joseph 849 54 Culver Academies 832* 55 Brebeuf Jesuit 829 56 New Castle 824 57 Danville 820 58 Hanover Central 817 59 Yorktown 812 60 South Bend Washington 811 61 Washington 810 62 Evansville Bosse 809 63 Indianapolis Bishop Chatard 730
