  1. Benton Central has canceled their week 4 game against Western; so Western is looking for an opponent. Floyd Central is looking for a week 4 opponent.
  2. Great topic......I spent many years coordinating special teams. Keys to special teams in high school are a reliable kicker/punter, and a reliable returner; a guy who can at least catch the ball in the air. A few years ago, we had a kicker put the ball easily in the end zone every time. The sound of his foot hitting the ball was a different thump from any other I heard in almost 30 years of coaching. We could afford to get a few "program guys" on the kickoff team then. Guys that are a part of the program for their whole career and rarely miss a thing, and worked hard will find a way on the field. I learned as a player that getting a guy a few plays, even on special teams, makes all the difference in the world. Of course there are a few key players that were starters that HAD to be on the field. We were never really deep enough as a program to not have that; even while I coached at Cathedral. Our punt coverage team has often been the most critical, so we would put speed on the field. It was at times a tough sell, but guys loved being returners and gunners. Next to the kicker and returner, the long snapper was huge too. It is a tough skill to teach; and since they are untouchable for the most important part, I put anyone out who could get it there quick. The most fun I had was creating a punt team with the fastest guy on the team, who happened to be the best punter. I lined the guys up in trips open; the line zone stepped right (right footed kicker), and he rolled with the option to run or punt. We even threw a pass in. It was a deadly weapon for the better part of that season, and the kids got fired up for it.
  3. He had two great throws for TD's. What was the total for yards after catch? The first TD was a 16 yarder with the TE running for the last 25 to get in. The screen pass was 55 yards, right? Something like that. The swing pass in the red zone was even a one yard pass with the RB doing a fantastic job of making guys miss to get 10 more yards for the TD. Just a few examples that come to mind. That said, I NEVER said he was the problem though. Play calling on both sides of the ball changed dramatically once they put 38 points on the board. They played to not lose the game, and got way too conservative in play calling. Playing prevent defense for over a quarter on the road and letting FSU do whatever they wanted was frustrating. The blitz combos and pass rush were non existent until the 3rd down play in OT. Even then guys looked lost in the secondary at times. As aggressive as FSU was on defense, the screen was perfect, but only called twice??? Teams like Alabama and Clemson from previous years keep the foot on the gas and bury teams in those spots.
  4. I agree, arm strength is suspect too.......most telling play was at the end of regulation....ball needed to go 60 yards to get to the end zone, and he could not get it 50 yards....even with stepping into the throw.
  5. The defense had played well most of the game. They got up 18 and just took the foot off the gas; playing to not lose is never a good approach. They had all the momentum....keep playing to get one more score at least
  6. Irish went into play not to lose when they got to 38 points. Not sure why they spend so much time in a prevent defense, especially in the red zone. Play calling on offense went too conservative too soon.
  7. That was funny, but nothing can match this one
  8. Correcting myself. IT looks like Tindley moved out of there and is further East. The map has Arlington Middle School and Thrival Indy Academy. Maybe the middle schools still plays there? Maybe Tindley still uses the Arlington field? I do know Tindley started on the Arlington campus. The charter schools seem to move a lot.
  9. Tindley Academy uses the building and the field for their team.
  10. There would have to be a 3rd party involved. Years ago, I was teaching in an inner city Catholic school in Indy. And IPS school had closed in the neighborhood, and the Diocese explored options for buying the building. It eventually happened. I am going to guess though is there would be a hang up as far as zoning. The whole lot at the Arlington site would be zoned as one lot and a school lot at that. Not sure they could sell a portion of that. If possible, it does make sense though. On a side note, my thought YEARS ago was the strip mall on the other side of Fall Creek Rd to the West of the Cathedral campus would be a great spot for a stadium. I am not sure what businesses are still there at this time. I know O'Malia's Market was the anchor way back when.
  11. Not a meme, I know, but this is great. Who does not want this kid on their team? lol
  12. The thing that is not really mentioned about the Wisconsin game is their awful pass coverage. PSU had guys WIDE open a LOT. Maybe these two teams play better later, but some things should still be sound; especially covering receivers.
  13. Thinking the players were reading too much off season hype like that. That said, I was not really impressed with either Penn State or Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Iowa game will be for the West title. Iowa played very well today.
  14. Penix is off....bad reads, throwing into coverages while guys are open; not moving well in the pocket to buy time. The defense has played well considering the offense has put them in horrible spots all day.
  15. Going to guess he was not set under center for a second before the snap. Since he is moving toward the line of scrimmage, he must be set for a second before the ball can be snapped. It's a judgment call by the officials as to whether he was set long enough or not.
  16. I am not sure if Angola has them available during the season, but they feed us pork burgers after the scrimmage there every other year. They are really good.
  17. Just ahead of Manti Teo's girlfriend's team? 😄
  18. @temptation You called it
  19. The story that just keeps on giving lol
  20. Nope.......there is no governing body for junior high athletics in Indiana. While schools do often hire IHSAA officials, and say they follow the IHSAA rules for the game; there is no requirement to do so.
  21. Locking the topic...way too much nonsense in what should have just been a direct message to start with.
  22. Not sure why the link I posted looks funky; trying it again.
