Sorry coach, I have to disagree with that. As far as dues to the association, the law pre dates rtw as far as teachers associations collecting from everyone whether they are a member or not. I want to say that somewhere in the mid to late 80’s, Indiana had a law that did not allow that. Choose to join or not is a personal choice, but there are a LOT of people across the state that take a lot of their own time to advocate for all the teachers in their districts. Having been in your spot and having served in multiple roles, I know full well how difficult the work is.

I hope that for your son as well. You are right though; all the stats and charts don't amount to much. For each program, it will simply boil down to one getting the virus and how each district/school responds to that. My impression so far though, is that a large majority of districts and schools are waiting until something happens to react, rather than doing much planning ahead of time.

Cleveland Browns will stay. As far as the Fighting Irish....it actually was a derogatory term. Union soldiers made fun of the Irish units because they did as much fighting among each other in camp as they did fighting the confederates. 😀 There was a lot of drinking involved too. lol UND did copyright the full nickname Fighting Irish and about 15 years ago, forced schools like Cathedral to drop the Fighting from their nicknames. Several schools around the country had to drop Irish from their nickname as well, and get rid of the leprechaun as a mascot. Cathedral was given more leeway because they were the first prep school the Order of St. Joseph started and ran along with ND. Plus, there is some controversy over the origins of the mascot. The discussion over the nickname is clear though. Cathedral used the name Fighting Irish while ND was still the Ramblers.

Someone shared a video story with me, I will have to find it. But it had monuments and statues in certain categories as far as "should this be changed or removed?" The ones it determined should stay were the forefathers, and people who helped build this Republic. Anyone that opposed it, regardless of their reasoning, or anyone who brought a level of shame (Custer was an example), should be removed. It was interesting to see.

I know a couple of the networks have just been referring to them as Washington, and have not referred to the nickname. This did become a heated topic several years go, but for whatever reasons, died down.To me, it's a better late than never thing.

You said in your post, that when you were asked if you had a mask, you pulled it out of your pocket and put it over your face. Before you entered the store, you never had any intention of wearing the mask. Even when you put it over your face, you still had no intention of keeping it there. That is basically the definition of deception. My stance on abortion has nothing to do with this. You cannot use or even mock the phrase "my body my choice" while it completely disregards or ignores the "my business, my choice" of the owner of Costco. This is about respecting the rules of the ownership of Costco. As I said earlier; you wore a shirt, shoes, shorts or pants. Again, if a friend asks you now to smoke in his house, you have no right to do so any way. I have never said a thing about the looters and rioting either; but because many did not wear a mask there, you somehow feel it's ok for you to ignore the rules of this owner. I believe it is the choice of individual schools. I know it was Barry Collier’s decision to not have the sectional or regional at Hinkle when he took over as AD. I could be wrong, but I don’t recall an NCAA mandate on that. I know just a couple seasons ago, Ball State hosted a conference day of games for teams nearby. It may have been the ACAC.

This really is an unfortunate thing to red Dann. If a friend invites you into their home and says please do not smoke; your mindset is you have every right to smoke any way. You wore a shirt and shoes into the store right? Those are required too. The sad part though is that you were not only deceptive; you intended on being so before you ever left home. To see you even boasting about being deceptive (holding the mask to your face as if you intended to keep it there) is sad as well. As a business owner, Costco has every right to set standards for all who choose to shop there; from paying a membership fee, to telling customers they need to wear shirts, shoes, pants, skirts or dresses, and yes, even masks. Claiming that you saw employees not following the guidelines is no excuse either. You know we have kids in class that say that, and it never works as an excuse. I get you don't want to wear the mask; nothing I can do about that; and as you say that is your right. But your rights for that end the moment you step into a store, restaurant, or any other place where an owner has set a requirement for all to wear a mask. There are many great things the game of football teaches us. One is that we all have a role to play if the team is going to be successful. As a coach and a former player, I know we , like many others had kids who really wanted to do their own thing. They did not fit in well and ended up being a divisive force in the locker room. The game itself has rules and expectations we all have to follow if we choose to participate in the great game. We do not get to pick and choose which rules to follow or not follow. There are consequences for not following, whether it is not being able to play because a player ignores what he is coached to do; or penalty flags if on the field, and enough of those lead to ejection. There are players who are dismissed from teams because of the problems mentioned. That is how life is in a civilized society. It teaches respect for others and respect for the game itself. We learn to respect the differences among us and work together for a common cause.

Were you ever this upset when the Philadelphia Flyers had Kate Smith sing God Bless America as far back as the 70's INSTEAD of the National Anthem???? Again, there is absolutely no reason anyone should be bothered by the playing of this PRIOR to the National Anthem.

I have never really been a fan of the nickname changes, save one. One has stood far above the others as being so politically incorrect, that I have thought for years now, even as a teenager, that it should be changed. To clarify, it is not instead of the National anthem. It is to be played before the anthem. I don’t get why it is such a big deal. Sure fans who “pay their salaries” might get upset, but to me, people are now just looking for reasons to be upset at something.....across the political spectrum.

Why? The idea that 5 pm on the East Coast at the same time it is 5 pm through most of Texas and Nebraska is ridiculous. There would be very little daylight through what is now the Central time zone in that plan. I am not a fan of daylight savings time at all, but this goes too far the other way. Friends in the New England area say there is a push to move that area to the Atlantic Time Zone.

The IFCA guideline is clear; for all members who are coaching, masks are to be worn by coaches throughout practice and games at this point. If you choose not to, then the IFCA insurance will not protect you. I am not a fan of having to wear them in the heat we are facing now, but I am also not willing to take a risk that could potentially cost me my career.

Thinking outside the box a bit; let's say there are a number of teams that have shut down for the season because of the number of cases they have in program, school, or even district. The IHSAA could consider adjusting classes; whatever that would look like. It could make for some interesting post season match ups.
