There should be an HCC/MIC super conference with a North/South or East/West split.  Everyone would be better off.  Why don't they see this.  Include CG and Carmel.  The Catholics/Parocials should make their own conference as well.  It's not that hard.

    I'd love that.

You didn't....but sometimes an intentional omission is in itself a statement.

You mentioned that Carmel may get MIC readmission consideration because the AD is such a good guy.  My question to you is admission to a conference for the state largest school (by far) a little bit deeper than if one major player is a nice guy?? Admittance is based on whether an AD is "liked" or not??  One school is admitted and one is not based upon AD popularity?  That sounds more like a country club without rules.

That is your comment that I am asking you to expound a little more.....

I said what I said. Jim Inskeep has kept a good relationship with the MIC. Can't speak for Center Grove.

It's almost like they should've never kicked out two members to begin with...

The MIC just pushed them out the door.

Don't count out a return of Carmel. The fact that Jim Inskeep is a class act is not lost on many in the MIC. I have nothing other than anecdotal evidence and informal conversation to base that on.

  3. Wishing Coach Bless all the best. His father and my father were contemporaries and played football together at Indiana Central. My father was one of the first football coaches at Avon (depends on what you count as the first coach, so I always say one of the first) so a couple of connections there.

He's done a great job at Avon despite the last few years. He really raised the bar there and took a good program to an elite program for several years. He's produced a lot of great players. I talked to one of my students who played for Coach Bless, and he was really sad about him retiring. I'm sure there are many.

    Good luck Coach!

The IHSAA “claims a monopoly” on broadcast rights in the same way you claim a monopoly on the sale of your home. You are entitled to the “monopoly” because you are the exclusive owner of the product. It’s the IHSAA’s tournament. They take the risk, they’re entitled to a reasonable return on their investment.

It was a poor choice of words, my apologies. Yours is much better as always.

I have long wondered why the state final broadcast doesn't bring in the folks who have covered the team involved all year to the broadcast.  Perhaps not as the main guy, the main play by play guy, but to add the knowledge of what  the team does...who is who.. because I am amazed at how many times the wrong kid is named... and I know mistakes happen...and they don't really have much time to dive and research a whole season's worth of games.   I know I'd much rather hear the voice of someone who really understands who the team counts on, who gets it done and what a team is about.  I'd love a 3 man team....one from both sides and a neutral host.

If a wrong kid is named at the state game, the roster was wrong.

  6. Jerry is a very kind and generous person. I know he spent time over the years with my young broadcasters walking them through his notes and his research for games. Jerry's one of the few people who can still make me starstruck. He may have lost a step or two, but that's a step or two no one else had.

  7. Having seen the mercy rule applied multiple times since it was adopted, I think it works well.

The closest I've ever seen to a comeback in 30+ years of watching high school football at Ben Davis was a Regional game at Warren in 2000. Ben Davis got out to a 35-0 lead. Warren scored 30 in a row. BD closed out with 30 of their own in a row. 65-30 was the final.

I guess I heard the starting QB for LC didn't play and they were still up 28-0 to start?

Ben Davis was DREADFUL in the first half. DREADFUL. I mean, it was so bad that we were up in the press box thinking about running clocks. Blocked punt in first half began to turn the tide even though BD didn't score off it. Giants hit a couple of big plays and then it was like LC suddenly was back on their heels. Reminded me a lot of the BD/Center Grove game where suddenly it was a ball game and LC got caught flat footed. Was just an odd football game. BD was fortunate to win in the end, but I can think of a handful of games over the years where the Giants came back or found themselves in position to win. You don't give them back...especially with this BD team who, in the past, has had trouble closing (three losses this year, for ex).

  9. I mean, the best Sectional draw by far is Warren Central's. Ben Davis had those other three teams that are now in Warren's Sectional for the last few years, and, while Perry is much much improved, I'm not sure there's a team that can prevent a running clock in the second half in that Sectional vs. the Warriors. I'd say Center Grove is a close second in that department in 6A.
