Tickets must be purchased in advance, there will be no tickets sold at the gate.

Is $9 the normal going rate for games at Fishers? I think that's a deal still, but I had not seen any up to $9.

I think the Moeller vs CG game will be closer.  Moeller has their backs against the wall, coming off a crushing loss to East Central.  They sure as heck don't want to go 0-3 against Indiana teams.  I think their coaches will have them ready to play.  Still favor CG, but believe it will be a battle.

Stop the running back, you stop Moeller. They showed heart in a comeback against BD's 2nd string and forced Tommy G/Skibinski and the 1's to go in to close it, but I doubt that CG has any issue with Moeller.

But to the point, that's exactly WHAT Doyel does. The story he has written will lead the reader to believe there is absolutely no other side to the story and anyone who isn't on board is an idiot.

I've read the article, if what Doyel is saying is 100% true, I would agree, this a terrible look for the IHSAA and Indian Creek. I don't know anything other than what Doyel has written and it would be unfair for me to judge otherwise. However, I've been around long enough to know that something this emotionally charged has two sides for Indian Creek and the IHSAA to come to the decision they did. And I'm not so sure Doyel is sharing it. And why would he?

I don't want to start debating journalism, but he did give Indian Creek a chance to respond (included the principal's email). He also quoted Paul Neidig in the story from the IHSAA's side.

    He's very good.

His piece on the Lawrence Central Sectional a few years ago at the start of the pandemic was unbelievable and should have won every journalism prize. I don't know how much time went into this and how much of an emotional toll it must have taken.

I know the difference between a columnist and news writer. Most columnists, well the good ones at least, will write opinionated pieces that have been researched to a degree to which an educated opinion can be formed. Not saying this isn't true for this particular piece, but Doyel is notorious for writing hit pieces and making over-sensationalized comments for the simple sake of gaslighting and virtue-signaling, despite not knowing what the hell he's talking about.

I don't like Doyel's style at all as a columnist, but that's what columnists do. It's kind of like a shock jock in radio or even like a right-wing talker. Obviously, Gregg swings the other way politically.

I'm glad that you know the difference because many people don't. That's part of the problem we have with the way people look at the news media today. There are too many flamethrowers and people who are less savvy than you don't know what's fact and what's not. (This is a general comment)

I stand on my Doyel opinion. He's probably liked at the Star because he gets engagement. He can write some wonderful, beautiful pieces that really tug on your emotions when he swings more towards the feature side. He can also write some grating pieces that really are hard for me to read because he inserts himself into the story more than I'd like. Case-in-point, his beef with McLaren IndyCar. Oy!

On this article, I think it's an awful look for Indian Creek, and, frankly for the IHSAA.

There's still a code of ethics in Journalism that need to be followed (or at least there used to be and now a reason why print media sucks) and I'm not so sure that's a concern of Doyel or Gannett (perhaps why they're tanking). There's a a lot of dumb people out there who believe everything they read (I've been guilty a time or two especially in my younger years) and guys like Doyel have made a great living off these types of people.

There is, but opinion writing is not the same as news writing. He's very definitely a columnist.

Someone like Neddenriep occasionally expresses an opinion (mostly on social media) but most generally writes straight news or feature stuff (and does it very well).

IHSAAtv, the Champions Network of the IHSAA, has begun identifying and remastering historically significant State Final games from the past.   When completed, those games will be found initially on our Facebook page and later archived on IHSAAtv.org.  Follow us at https://www.facebook.com/ihsaatv.   Currently we have restored only basketball, but future plans include many football games and a few other select sporting contests.  Which games would you like restored?

I appreciate the work you do on these. It's great as someone who likes to go back and verify facts and things. There's nothing like source material.

“Emotionally charged journalism” is what I like to call it.

He’s right on this one (assuming the facts of the case are accurate) but loses credibility and legitimacy based on some of his previous “stories.”

”Thousands will die if we have fans at the Indianapolis 500 or play college football this fall.”

    Enough said.

I don't disagree with you on Doyel but only to an extent.

He's paid as a columnist and not a journalist. He's paid to get reactions from people and to express his opinions. His facts, however, have to be sound. That's especially in a case like this one. Anything presented as fact has been vetted by someone above him, I'm sure. If it's not, that's a problem for him and for Gannett.

I find Doyel to be an excellent writer when it comes to features. His column writing is grating. He goes back and says the same thing over and over again. He inserts "I" and "me" into his columns too much. I've never written for the outlets that he has, but I did have a cup of coffee at the IU School of Journalism (it was my minor). I know that was always frowned upon.

    But hey...it's 2023.

Gregg cares deeply for what he writes about. I think that sometimes makes him go overboard.

    13-3 after two weeks...

King (MI) @ Carmel:  I think this is a get right game for Carmel as King has come up empty the last two years against Indiana competition and this year's team may be a year away from returning to national glory as Dante Moore is now on the west coast.  They do have some playmakers on defense but they are outmanned here as the Greyhounds boast a 5/1 enrollment advantage.  Carmel wins 35-20.

Lawrence Central vs Lawrence North @ LOS:  Maybe I am old school but it is a travesty they have taken this game out of Lawrence Township where the stands would be packed and moved it down town.  LC proved it belongs on the short list of the state's elite, albeit in an overtime thrilling loss to Westfield last week.  The Wildcats are flying high after a 2-0 start but the Bears are by far their toughest test yet.  I'll take LC here 34-17.

North Central @ Warren Central:  The Warriors are not accustomed to being 0-2 but here we are.  Like Carmel, this is a get right game for Warren in Derek Hart's homecoming.  Can this propel the Warriors to figure some things out as the schedule gets more daunting going forward?  We will find out.  Warren wins 41-7.

Pike @ Ben Davis:  Pike looked like they had improved tremendously in week 1 in a close loss to Zionsville before being blown out by Fishers.  BD avoided any kind of a let down after their hot start in the Buckeye state by easily disposing of west side rival Avon.  Now the task is to not look ahead as IMG awaits in week 4.  Won't be much resistance for the Giants.  They roll here.  45-13.

Trinity (KY) @ Center Grove:  Rumors of a step back by Center Grove were greatly exaggerated and a win here likely propels them back to #1 in the Temp's rankings.  What's that you say?  A PASSING GAME for the Trojans?  They'll continue to improve and should comfortably roll here in my opinion.  CG wins 27-17.

    What say you?

The battle for the Victory Bell should be pretty interesting with LC and LN. BD Alum Mike Brevard returns to BD for the first time as Pike coach. Cherry has a good arm for CG.

Just stop with the disrespect nonsense.

We all acknowledge Snider and Carroll are legitimate squads worthy of praise.

    They certainly have proven it.

  11. As silly as this sounds, I don't think we've seen what Ben Davis is capable of yet. The Giants have put together some really good stretches of football, but we haven't seen a flat out 48 minutes yet from this team. Are they as good as 1991 or 2017...no. Could they be? It's a stretch, but there is potential.

I think there's real potential on that defense to be more lights out. Tommy Gotkowski makes some throws I haven't seen made by a BD QB, and that includes the "big five" of Banks, Taylor, Castner, Ings and Britt. He may have the strongest arm of that bunch. Alijah Price will make someone really happy in college.

Long way to go and there's still room to improve.

I guess nothing has changed for this game.  I have not received, nor can I find, any change from the 7PM start.

I still can't remember why or when gametimes changed from 8PM to 7PM.  It makes more sense for a later start for all games, imho.

It happened sometime in the 90's, I think. When I was in high school in the early 90's it seemed like all the games were later than when I started teaching in 1997.

Those towers are actually Central Soya, where I worked for a few days when I was quite young.  They housed a bunch of beans.  I'm not sure they're still in business.

I found the history of Central Soya:

Central Soya Company, Inc. - Company Profile, Information, Business Description, History, Background Information on Central Soya Company, Inc. (referenceforbusiness.com)

My uncle used to haul beans from Central Soya to Chicago. That's why he's rich now 🤣...that and he sold his farm on 146th Street to developers and a church.

    Plus Carmel and Center Grove...

    6-2 last week.

Avon @ Ben Davis:  Avon hung tough with a solid LN outfit at home last week but came up short whereas BD made the statement of the early season in throttling one of Ohio's best.  Giants may be due for a let down and I expect a bit of a slow start before they begin to roll.  BD wins 42-17.

Christian Brothers (MO) @ Carmel:  Hounds get Missouri power CBC and their high powered offense.  A pair of high level Big Ten recruits on each side of the ball including a WR headed to Ohio State.  I do think the travel and the fact that this is CBC's first contest whereas Carmel has already played bodes well for the 'Hounds but I think they come up short here.  CBC wins 34-23.

Fishers @ Pike:  A second straight blowout likely for Fishers as they get the "other" MIC bottom feeder, albeit an improved Pike squad.  The Red Devils will rely heavily on the home field to keep this one close, but I just don't see it.  Tigers roll 38-13.

Fort Wayne North @ Lawrence North:  Speaking of high level recruits. North Side was without their combo last week and is rumored to once again be shorthanded on the bus ride to Indy this weekend.  Sorry but that is a recipe for disaster against a MIC outfit like LN.  Wish them a speedy recovery but gimme the Wildcats here 30-14.

Hamilton Southeastern @ North Central:  Royals got revenge on their homefield last week avenging 2022's semi-state loss to Carroll.  They'll breathe easier this week as the work in progress that is NC awaits.  Royals win 49-7.

Oakland (TN) @ Center Grove:  Don't know a ton about the Tennessee squad other than the fact that they appear in the national polls.  I like CG on their homefield regardless in what I can only describe as a homer pick.  CG wins 23-21.

Warren Central @ Carroll (Fort Wayne):  Don't know where to start here but I never thought I would see big bad Warren Central get bullied at the line of scrimmage and then have inadequate speed against ANYONE, but here we are.  Taking nothing away from Snider but that final score shocked me.  It doesn't get any easier this week as the Warriors travel to Carroll.  Gut check time for the Warriors and though I think they'll improve week by week, I have to take Carroll here.  Chargers win 28-20.

Westfield @ Lawrence Central:  An underrated game on the schedule and two teams coming off blowout wins and looking to get into the state title discussion.  I could see this one going either way and am going to take the easy way out and take the home team by 3 in what could also be viewed as a mild upset.  Bears win 30-27.

For once, I can't argue with anything you've put here.
