  1. Funny you should ask that. There is no mandatory disqualification for targeting in high school like there is in NCAA. However, a targeting foul where contact is initiated with a helmet above the shoulders of a defenseless player can be a candidate for a flagrant foul, resulting in disqualification. I was the observer on this game, and I discussed this very question with the crew after the game. After a thorough discussion, we all agreed that the hit, although there was a lot of contact, should not have been considered “flagrant.” So, IMO the crew got it exactly right … except the Referee gave the personal foul signal (#38), but omitted the signal for targeting (#24).
  2. 9 + 6 = 16😵‍💫🤪
  3. The only thing senseless was the guy Bowen hit in the head.
  4. Both good calls. On the OPI, the slot receiver blocked downfield before the wideout caught the pass. The personal foul should have included the “targeting” signal. Targeting is not an automatic ejection in high school. But it was clearly a blow to the head of a defenseless player. Andrean just getting out-executed at pretty much every position on the field.
  5. I will be meeting with the crew in the locker room after the game, near the visiting team’s field entrance, but not until 20 min. or so after the game. Meet at the field entrance right after the game?
  6. I’m an observer on the 2A game, so I’ll post observations from the pressbox.
  7. Don’t you know that Indiana is unique? We can’t learn anything by looking at what other states do. (See playoff qualification/seeding discussions.)
  8. Lakewood St. Edward football community gathers after Thanksgiving practice in preparation for tomorrow’s semifinal. As always, today is a great day to be an Eagle!

  10. The “Law of Unintended Consequences” strikes again!
  11. We could start the old “head to head” vs. “resume” debate. Instead, let’s just hope the Eagles take care of Gahanna Lincoln and Moeller beats Springfield. Then we’ll get a rematch for all the marbles.
  12. And Lakewood St. Edward is 6 spots below Moeller, even though they have the same record, and the Eagles gave Moeller their only L of the season … on the road … a shutout. Oh well, that’ll all be taken care of in the rematch in two weeks … for the Div. 1 championship.
  13. It’s USC week … the enemy of our blood.
  14. Why … it’s absolutely BRILLIANT, I tell you!
  15. What with their 8 draft choices and the most cap space in the league, they should be able to upgrade big time. There are a bunch of wide receivers available in the draft for rookie money, and a number of high end offensive linemen hitting the free agent market in 2023. They need both … badly.
  16. I’m sure someone can figure one out … but highly unlikely to happen.
  17. The Gators pulled their scholarship offer from this 4 star QB after he posted a video of himself singing along to a rap song that used the N-word. Discuss. https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/florida-football/florida-withdraws-scholarship-offer-for-2023-4-star-qb-after-he-rapped-the-n-word-on-video/
  18. He’s going to have to buy a ticket this year.
  19. Really? To me, excellence is never boring.

  21. Watching the first half of the Bears game, I was struck by an unfamiliar thought: the Bears appear to have a QB, a head coach, and an offensive coordinator… all working together, on the same page, and successful!
  22. 100% @whiteshoesdoesn’t want to “go down that rabbit hole.” But no one can deny the rabbit hole exists.
