I’m going to venture a guess that if you deducted expenditures for uniforms, equipment, license fees, mileage to game sites, cost of clinics, publications, Association dues, etc., you wouldn’t have enough left over to finance a trip to Indianapolis, let alone Florida.

The vast majority of officials have no real interest in showing a profit from officiating. In 40 seasons I probably broke even most of the time, but no better than that. But for many, that doesn’t mean they can subsidize their avocation to the tune of many $$ (and hours) each season. So, I say it again: money is not the answer, but it’s one of the answers.

Coach Sharpe’s leaving had nothing to do with the school. Rather, it was a family matter. As for Coach Ortiz, I’m just musing, but Buzz has had some health issues. Who knows how long he’ll be there?

Or getting hit by one. I moved to Indiana in the summer of ‘69. Played high school baseball in the Spring of 1970. I led off for Munster and our first game was played in about 45 degrees of blustery wind, spitting rain. With the first pitch of the game, the pitcher from East Chicago Washington hit me right on the elbow. I couldn’t feel anything in my left arm for 3 innings. BTW, the pitcher for ECW was Tim Stoddard. Remember him?

After that, it matches the charities with the players. Quinn is really excited about getting this going. “Notre Dame is very much in this in the NIL space,” Quinn said. “The goal is to provide these student-athletes with the opportunity to be able to take a portion of their time and receive compensation for it, but really falling under the guidelines of God, Country, Notre Dame, causes that are bigger than yourself. And that’s what this is all about.” The Notre Dame fanbase is pretty excited about this new endeavor. It will be fascinating to see how this is used to try and get recruits to come to South Bend, too

Merely a minor blip on the radar screen for me. But I can see where Michigan fans would latch on to it.

The Jamboree format was very beneficial for the officials. You’d put 10 or so officials at each site, and they would rotate in and out all night. The great thing was that, with a mix of veteran and younger officials, you could get real time feedback on what you were doing, a luxury none of us had in season. It was, in essence, an on field clinic, coming at a very opportune time.

That’s why I referenced cutting back on scholarships … which I thought was an artful way of staying on topic, if I do say so myself. No doubt @gonzoronwould agree. 😉

My point is simply that a wide receiver who runs a 4.65 40 is unlikely to make it in the NFL, if that’s really an accurate gauge of his foot speed. There are exceptions, but they are … exceptional. What did he run at his pro day?

I’m sure the Packers’ training staff isn’t that happy. This guy cannot stay healthy.

And do you have a similar list of potential wide receivers with lousy 40 times, and how many of them fizzled? I bet it’s a lot longer than that one.

Not really apples to apples. Now, if Brady had an arm strength deficiency that limited him on some basic throws, that’s a more apt comparison.

Good for you. Coach Richards is a great person and a heckuva coach. He completely turned the Morton program around, and I mean off the field as well, to the point where it became a destination when open enrollment was implemented. He would be an asset to any program.
