Oh, I’m sure more than the Irish are glad.

Glad you’re not on the Committee.

One person’s mediocrity is another person’s parity, I guess.

Happy 55th birthday to the most exciting college football player I ever saw. This highlight is my favorite. I remember Bo Schembechler was asked before the game if they were going to do anything special to prevent Rocket from breaking one. He said “tackle him.” … So, he broke two. The incomparable Raghib “Rocket” Ismail.

I don’t follow your logic. As it stands right now, how many teams are actually in contention for a spot in the playoffs? At least 15 or 16? That means for the rest of the season we are going to have multiple “elimination” games, as well as several with potential impact on seeding, byes, home field, etc., every weekend. How does that compare with the 4 team format at this point in the season. How many teams truly had a shot at being 1 of 4? Half a dozen? The number of high stakes games in the regular season has at least quadrupled.

My guess if the Bears had tried to get it closer, there’d be a holding penalty.

It’s not dissimilar from Flus’ decision to not contest a 13 yd. pass that allowed Washington to get within striking distance for the Hail Mary.

When I played at Notre Dame, I wore #32 in honor of Jim Brown.

I have no idea why there is a purpose for a minimum size. Nor can I imagine wearing a towel that’s 3 ft. long. And no one checks them that closely. We’re busy trying to get the players to wear football pants with knee pads, rather than Bermuda shorts.
-
If it were a towel, as described it’s legal. The only real restrictions on towels now are size (no smaller than 4x12 and no larger than 18x36) and any lettering can’t be inappropriate or unsportsmanlike.
-
And they said a kid from a 1A school couldn’t make it in the big time. No one has played more games at Notre Dame.

6A Tournament Discussion

My recollection is that the horse collar was in progress. In that situation, really in any situation where there is contact against the passer before or during the passing motion, whether legal or illegal, you assume the errant pass was the result of the contact. So, no foul for intentional grounding. -

The play with 44 sec. left in the 4th was an offensive holding foul on Brownsburg. It was the next play that was the horse collar tackle. And regardless of how livid someone was, it was the correct call. This was not a “typical” horse collar tackle. That usually comes when the tackler is behind the runner, grabs the horse collar, and allows his weight to pull down the runner backwards. But it’s clear the elements of a horse collar tackle are there. It’s a foul to “Grab the inside back or side collar, or the name plate area (directly below the back collar), of either the shoulder pads or the jersey of the runner and subsequently pull (backward or sideward) that opponent to the ground (Horse-collar), even if possession is lost. The horse-collar foul is enforced as a live-ball foul.” The video shows the defender grabbing the back of the jersey collar and pulling the QB backward to the ground. Fits the definition of a horse collar tackle. There was a glitch, but it played no part in the outcome. The horse collar foul occurred with 0:30 on the clock. After enforcement, the referee properly started the clock on the ready for play signal. LN then encroached, which is a dead ball foul, so the clock stopped at 0:28 to enforce that penalty. After enforcement, the R wound the clock, but then shut it down immediately when they realized they hadn’t asked the Brownsburg coach if he wanted to elect to start the clock on the snap. That election is available to the offended team inside the last 2 minutes of each half if the opponent fouls with the game clock running. Brownsburg elected to have the clock start on the snap, so they reset the game clock to 0:28, where it was at the time of the encroachment foul. It should have been reset to 0:30, since that was the time on the clock at the conclusion of the play with the horse collar foul. So, Brownsburg was deprived of 2 seconds which, given the outcome, were meaningless. Pretty good crew on this game with a state championship veteran Referee. -

A Crown Point vs. Brownsburg final would be a great game. A real dogfight. 😂😅🤣 -

Merrillville draws first blood with a long drive. Pirates 7 Valpo 0 6:25 of the 1st. -
There are so many possible ways this thing could go, it’s impossible to predict. But one model would be treat the players as university employees, and have them sign contracts with non-compete clauses. Many other worms would come crawling out of that can, though.

I played a total of 5 years of intercollegiate lacrosse between Notre Dame and law school at IU.

Spoken like someone who never played the game.

It’s not a country club sport. Perhaps you’re confusing lacrosse with polo? 🤣😂
-
I trust you’re not referring to lacrosse as a “country club sport.” We used to call it “the little brother of War.” You don’t see that much at country clubs.

The Law of Unintended Consequences rears its ugly head again.

Under National Federation rules, contact against the punter is excused if the defense touches the kick near the kicker, and the contact is unavoidable. Interestingly enough, there is nothing in the rule that requires the player touching the kick and the player contacting the kicker be the same person.
