I was setting there at LOS thinking, the better team won today. I was also thinking, Marion Local is just on another level. I have stated They were they best small school team I have seen in the last 20 years. They are probably the best team I have seen in the last 20 years. This includes teams 5A teams as well, including the 2020 Zionsville State runners-up.

Completely agree on this. With that being said, some of the CSC employees are a joke. After the 2A game, I was heading down to find my wife and kid (I was helping with the HUDL filming) and they would not let me through a door due to it being exit only (they made it exit only as I could enter through it earlier). When asked why I needed to go through, I stated my wife and kid are leaving and I am suppose to meet them at their seats. They said well if you are leaving, you do not need to enter. I finally decided to not be an a** and walked around to make it down to them.

Uniwatching the State Finals

No worries, I really like to see the different uniforms. Linton also has a blue alternate that they only wear on senior night every year. Still really enjoy the red more! -
Uniwatching the State Finals

Just to give you a hard time, 2A is on Friday and 1A on Saturday π -
Many will say Linton should not be here after the Brownstown game. A lot of things could have happened differently that still resulted in a Miners win after the 1st 2-point conversion was ruled good. They battled back from down 21-8 and finished the game off in style. Fast forward to last Friday and Linton did what many thought was unthinkable. Beat Indy Lutheran at their place. The turf does not allow for the field to be an excuse, but with Willis out hurt, people will say they would have won with him. He did not play defense. Linton scored 40 points. There were only 1 or 2 plays that I truly think Willis would have definitely made, but only one of them would have been a sure TD. In the end, Linton is still playing after being doubted this whole postseason by everyone but most of the Linton Faithful. Adams Central was not doubted nearly as much as the Miners due to their recent success in 1A. They were not tested in the playoffs up until last week, but that game was still 20-3 going into the 4th qtr. Andrean, WeBo, and LCC were the only teams in the North that were going to give AC a contest, IMO. LCC just happened to play the other 2 teams and came up short. I felt AC has been the best team in the North for most of this year. I have seen these two programs tagged as the North and South Twins and it is obvious why. Both teams wear red home jerseys and helmets. They have both been bumped up to 2A due to the success factor and will have moved up/stayed in 2A due to enrollment. The Jets and Miners also run a similar offensive scheme, but the Miners now run it out of shotgun and pistol formations. We use to run the exact same offense in the 2000's, so the comparison is still there. You will see more passing from Linton than Adams Central, but both teams still want to run first. This game has a real shot at being the quickest State game in history. I know we pass more than we use to, but if both teams are running the ball well, look out! This game should be a fun one to watch. Adams Central is looking to get the win that has eluded them the last 4 years in 1A. Linton is looking to accomplish what the goal has been since 2016, win a 2A state Championship. I believe this game will be a close one throughout and very hard hitting. Friday cannot get here fast enough!

It does not matter whether private or public. This needs to no longer be a topic of discussion. The only βadvantageβ most of these schools have is when they are in a more highly populated area. With that being said, it still shouldnβt matter. Itβs a game played by kids. Every kid puts their pants on 1 leg at a time.

Semi-State Championship Scores
miner_35 replied to Komets2727's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
The crew at Indianapolis Lutheran was fantastic. Best crew I have seen this season. Iβll keep my mouth closed about crews in the Indy area now! π -
It does appear that they have been healthy on offense from what I could tell since early in the season with the current exception of Willis. Lots of size and speed on display. Something we are used to seeing off and on over the years. We are no slouches either as I thought last week proved we had some pretty good speed ourselves. On thing I notice was the number of players on Lutheran's roster. I believe it is it around 44? I saw several players going both ways on film. Lutheran hasn't had to play any real meaningful minutes in the 4th quarter since the Triton Central game. Linton has had to play meaningful 4th quarter minutes several times this season. That could be key if it comes down to the 4th quarter or it could mean diddly squat. π Lutheran is definitely the favorite for a reason. If we can get pressure and limit the passing game, we have a good shot. If they are able to pass at will, we could be in for a long night. The same can be said for Linton too. If we are able to get the passing game going, it makes the game much more interesting. Of course, that will be easier said than done due to the wind that is suppose to be around tomorrow. I expect a good hard hitting game. It absolutely makes a difference. It helps when you do not have to compete with Mater Dei and Southridge in the same sectional. I was happy to see them both end up in 3A. π Although I do miss the battles we had with you guys.

I have watched some film and Shrum can spin the ball pretty darn well. Iβm not sure he really changes a whole lot minus the experience in big games.
-
Monrovia @ Linton was 22-7 at half and Linton could not really adjust in the second half to Monrovia's adjustments. The team really did not have much of an identity either. I would say after about week 4, they started to trust a bit more and know who they are. With that being said, Linton was coming off a very "humbling" defeat to probably the best high school team I may have ever seen in person, especially at a small school level. Once again, Linton will not come into this game afraid by any means. Not many gave them a shot outside of the community last week and the same can be said for this week. I will definitely not give a score prediction, but I think this one will be closer than a lot of people think.
-
Lutheran is still Lutheran. Their back up looks like he can spin the ball pretty darn well too. If you get the ball anywhere near the WR's they have a great chance to pull it down. Their QB also does not play defense. If you thought Brownstown was fast, Lutheran is faster. They seem to have that "city speed" I have read about on here before! Lord I apologize for that. π π€£

Hypothetical Neutral Site Semi-States
miner_35 replied to HoopsCoach's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Because it is more fair to swap from a grass field to a turf field I suppose. No one can complain about the field conditions at that point in time either. With that being said, going from grass to turf isnβt an easy transition the first time. -
Yea, some of the fans in the end zone are terrible. I stand in the north end zone a lot, and just shake my head. The week we played you guys, I had a good conversation with your kids running the camera because they were confused about the officiating, as was everyone else in attendance for obvious reasons. A game should never run 3+ hours with two running/balanced teams. They listened to my explanations and asked questions. Good bunch of kids you guys helped mold into young men.

Oh I know he was down, I said it from the stands. The white hat fell and lost site of his only responsibility. It sucks, but it happens. One could argue that the holding call that brought back the touchdown was a blown call too, especially with the way the rest of the game was called. We have seen many blown calls go the opposite way over the years. I will say I am glad this one went in our favor. As far as the field goal, it was about a 32 yard attempt. His extra points were going that distance. This does not take away from the fantastic game that was played. Itβs one of those that it sucks to see a team lose, controversial or not. But man, a 2 point conversion for the win would have made it even better. π

I went back and watched that play several times over. It was definitely called on the left tackle, but I will say this in confidence. 8 out of 10 officials would not call that a hold based upon other holds not called in this game. They were letting them play and I think that one should have definitely been a play on. The DE on that side was not even complaining. That to me is usually a sign it should not have been called. People were talking about Brownstown's offensive scheme. What they did not know apparently was Linton has ran similar schemes in the past. This undoubtedly helped in the preparation. They weren't going to be surprised by much. Playing on a grass field definitely helped, as it looked like Brownstown almost didn't know what grass was at times after playing basically all turf fields this season. Linton slipped a little too, but made better adjustments to keep their footing. I will say that this game really was decided by about 2-3 plays. When #1 broke loose on the long run in the 4th, Oliver chasing him down was the biggest. If he doesn't, that's a touchdown and more than likely the game. Play #2 was when Linton's defense was able to get #40 out of bounds. That acted as our 3rd timeout. That gave us our chance. The final play was the first 4th down play in the 4th quarter. They go for it instead of kicking the field goal. The thing is, #10 was open past the sticks. Oliver chased down the QB and altered the pass. Those plays were much more important than the 2 point conversion. Any of those go the other way, we probably have a different outcome. Linton could have came up with a better 2pt conversion play on the last score. Playing from behind instead of ahead changes perspective sometimes. Regardless, this was still one of of my favorite games to have watched since at least 2016. Hats off to Brownstown on a fantastic season. There is a good possibility we do it again next year.

If it comes down to the kicking game, we will be at a serious disadvantage, but so far, we have been able to avoid this. Brownstown special teams has made several big plays in the return game this year from what I have seen. #1 and #40 are both fast , but #40 is more of the tackle breaker whereas #1 will go mainly untouched due to his speed. Both will need hit in the backfield to try and contain them. The QB, #17 can make big plays with his feet and arm. The offensive line is very precise and executes very well. The wing-t variant is a combination of the traditional wing-t and the old single wing. I was fortunate to play in both of those systems. Very interesting to watch. Hard to figure out where the ball is going, especially if you are looking in the backfield. As far as Linton goes, last week we struggled against the pass and allowed one big run. Greencastle was much improved after switching up their lineups and getting some players back from injury. We did move the ball up and down the field most of the night, and we have for the last several weeks. However, Brownstown will be the best team we have played since our opening two games against Marion Local and Monrovia. With that being said, they are not Marion Local. Linton will come in the underdog, but will not be intimidated. One interesting thing is that the SOS for both teams are 202 for Linton and 225 for Brownstown. This was surprising due to the fact that Brownstown does play 7 3A-5A schools throughout the season. Switzerland County was the lowest ranked Sagarin team they have played in the tournament at 229. The best ranked Sagarin team this whole season has been Paoli at 133. The lowest ranked Sagarin team that Linton has played in the tournament was Greencastle at 168. Linton's Best ranked Sagarin team this whole season was Monrovia at 111. This doesn't mean much, but I was bored and found it interesting. I expect the crowd to be huge and the atmosphere to be great. I have seen some film from Brownstown and see a lot of team speed and great athletes across the board. Linton also has some great athletes across the board. This game will be decided in the trenches like most games, but I believe turnovers will be the biggest factor. This game could go either way by 1 or 2 scores, in my opinion. Brownstown is definitely the favorite for a reason, but I know the Miners will not go down without a fight.
