Probably what you would expect from a kid making his 3rd varsity start (would be more if not for injury). Threw for 2 TDs, but the offense really got going with the run game and Jackson Johnson in the 2nd half.

I'm just ready for rivalry week! It's not been kind to us the last two seasons! Nice win for the Cats tonight!
-
Not overly surprised by any of these.. -Jasper seems to have established a very high floor under Coach Lewis despite graduation losses..coupled with Memorial's missing starters and you see the result. I'm sure the Tigers will be in full force down the stretch (just in time for their Week 8 trip to Inman...yay!) -Castle/North was a close one as predicted -MD and Reitz roll as expected -VL shutting out Bosse may be a bit of surprise to some...but I would've been shocked if Lincoln didn't win by more than a couple scores. They've got some work left to do offensively (2nd quarter was pretty bad tonight), but it was more than enough to support a defense that looks better than a year ago.

Hunt’s definitely got some wheels, but I would expect a pretty balanced utilization of him. He had a long rushing TD, but threw for 3 more in the scrimmage. And Johnson looked good in his limited touches as well. Two major pieces back for Lincoln that are reasons for optimism.

Beautiful evening at Warrior Field for VL/NK scrimmage. Nice to see Xander Hunt back at QB for Lincoln. And nice to see the Alices generate a little offense.

Mt Carmel gets turf

There was actually an existing track around Inman Field for years that was eventually removed not long before the field was leveled and re-seeded in 2018. Still proud to call this home for the Alices. -
Mt Carmel gets turf

Beautiful looking field. Looks like they also demolished the old press box/storage barn/visiting locker room. Cool experience as a player back in the day. Football is king in that town. -
Fair enough. I’ll respect an honest opinion. It may not work out for VL in the long term, but I’m not about to believe that for one second. Two down seasons does not determine what’s to come for a program. The best could very well be on the horizon for VL in the SIAC. And I believe you about not wanting to leave the PAC. It’s kind of the best of both worlds with the realignment. The BIG PAC is more or less a better version of the BIG 8, and you get some non-con scheduling freedom. I said from the moment the Big 8 split that the SIAC or PAC would be a great fit for VL and I stand by that. But seriously man…I’ve known some wise guys who need a shelf on wheels to rest that big head LOL.

Always the smart guy in the room.. I’m aware it wasn’t simply a handpicking of one school over another. VL became available for obvious reasons and was the easy choice. GS was more complicated than that. Neither school was preferred over the other. My previous comment of GS being “passed on” was just me throwing shade back at the invincible titans. But I am truthful when I say GS feels deep down that they should be in Lincoln’s place, regardless of their PAC allegiance.
-
Wow. Not sure that was ever a thing...VL's attempted move to the PAC was not an indicator of rejection from the SIAC, rather an internal move that was thought to be beneficial going forward (that I felt was shortsighted to say the least). It worked out for the better IMO. I'd rather be a member of a conference that chose US over those who don't believe we belong. And as far as I know, there have been no regrets among SIAC members about bringing VL back into the league. But seriously...can we all just agree now that GS feels slighted that they were passed on for Lincoln? I've seen these types of comments for 2 years now.

This roster could potentially be the best since the 2017 Big 8 champion team..little different SOS back then so not expecting 8-1 but still..the talent is there.
-
Gilbert is a FB/wing and will see plenty of touches. Lincoln is also excited to get back Jackson Johnson, who never played a down last season after an ACL tear in warm ups of the Bosse game.
-
VL was in the same position as MV, Boonville, Washington, Princeton. The moment Jasper decided it wanted out and transfer to the SIAC, the Big 8 was done for regardless. Lincoln was never a proponent for leaving the Big 8 just to be clear. My feelings are the same as they were 2 years ago, I liked idea of being an SIAC or PAC member. I hope the Alices are voted in.
-
Lol. So what? I’m glad you’re so observing. I’ll be sure to tone it down to avoid any suspicion.
-
Excuse me “retired”.
-
Yes I do hope we keep our non-conference games with the SIAC. The no brainer is the the opener with Bosse. That was a non-con game even before joining the conference in 2020. Hoping to add another Evansville opponent similar in size to VL. The Alices will return nearly their entire starting roster from 2021 so a contract with a strong opponent would be beneficial. And of course..the VL/Jasper rivalry MUST stay intact at all costs…which is probably my biggest qualm with leaving the conference. I know it’s been really one sided towards the Cats the last few years in both major sports, but traditionally these schools are back and forth cyclically. As I recall, the Salters led 2017 and 2018 Lincoln teams were a big reason why Tony Ahrens was ousted and Lewis was hired…lest we forget. And there was a point not that long ago that Jasper simply could not beat Lincoln in a meaningful basketball games.. so I’m begging that AD’s from both schools figure this out for football. Basketball less of a schedule problem.

Looks like I'm gonna be spending a lot more time with you all.

So yeah..haven't really been on here much to give my take on the SIAC exit rumors. I wanted to be sure that it was really going to happen and in fact was confirmed this week by administration. If I'm being honest it's bitter sweet...a little more bitter. Not exactly agreeing with the decision. As I've said on a few occasions, 2 years is not enough time to evaluate how competitive a school can be in any conference in any one sport. And for VL, the timing at which they entered the SIAC (through sheer bad luck) couldn't have been worse in the case of our football and basketball programs with a number of contributing factors. But unfortunately, that's just how it played out. I still feel it was the right decision to join the conference 2 years ago when the opportunity presented itself, and still believe we would've been competitive in the long run. Definitely going to miss the consistent 45 min - 1 hour travel times. But to say I'm not intrigued by joining the PAC would be lie. Kind of feels like a 90's Big 8 reunion minus Jasper, which does feel like home.
-
I guess I can understand how some view VL as an SIAC misfit based solely on results. But it's been a whole 2 seasons...not sure that's a big enough sample size to indicate how this will turn out. Give it a few years. The internal belief going forward is that Lincoln will be competitive in the conference annually. We joined for the same reasons as Jasper, and still feel confident in the choice. Selling the program is in no way a problem. The numbers are still there. Coach Salters is very relatable to the kids and is establishing (or has already established) a good culture to keep everyone engaged. I just don't see the grim outlook that some are predicting. By the same token, VL would be a great fit in the Big PAC as would GS be a perfect fit in the SIAC.

OV 14, VL 0 Final Alices were fantastic defensively holding a 38 ppg offense scoreless through 3 quarters. But as the script has gone throughout the year, the offense struggled more as the game went on and couldn’t flip the field. And even the best D can only hold so many short fields. OV’s second sectional title in school history, first since 1992. Very nice looking team. They get Tri West, who upset Danville, at Spencer next week. Not that any of that matters with GS waiting at semi state.
