Why? Had some of the most dominant teams in college football history.

I'm pretty sure my disdain for Pete Carroll was clarified in previous posts. But I'll say it again................he's a cheater and he let his players run amok. No respect for him as a college coach. He's more suited for the NFL.

But most of their most memorable moments in history, championships, Heisman winners came either before the forward pass was legal or reel to reel was the primary method of breaking down film.

Made me laugh out loud, literally................................thanks 🙂

You’re learning, lol.  You’ve moved from “the refs gifted the game to Clemson” to “OHIO STATE gifted the game to Clemson.”

    Progress my friend.

Ohio State should have won by 21 points. The refs gifted Clemson 7, the players gifted them 14 through senseless penalties. Either way, a gift is a gift.

  4. 19 hours ago, Temptation said:

Yet, Wisconsin gifted them the game...

    21 points off four turnovers.

I agree. The same way Ohio State gifted the game to Clemson. Not bringing this up because you don't like Ohio State. I'm just pointing out the fact that the better team doesn't always win. Oregon and Clemson were both delivered huge gifts from the Big Ten.

I'm not saying there wasn't foul play, but the punishment doesn't fit the crime.

    -2 year postseason ban

    -loss of 30 scholarships

    -national title vacated

all because what, a players family took money from an agent? Why do you think the NCAA hasn't acted on the current FBI probe into college basketball? Because they know they royally screwed USC. Here is what one writer had to say about the NCAA's punishment towards USC:

"It's become an accepted fact among informed college football observers that the NCAA sanctions against USC were a travesty of justice, and the NCAA's refusal to revisit that travesty are a massive act of cowardice on the part of the organization."

I don't care for USC one way or the other, but he's absolutely right, a complete abuse of power by the NCAA.

What about the house Bush's family was staying in? Taking money from an agent wasn't an isolated incident. There were several "gifts." He wasn't even a good football coach in the NFL before he took that job. In fact, the USC faithful were pissed that he was hired. So the pressure was on him from the beginning. I could see where cheating was an appealing option for him. He also let his players run amok. Winning championships and having fun is one thing, but when a player of yours walks up behind a female reporter and acts like he's humping her on national television, a line has to be drawn. That kid was never disciplined. Hell, no one even said anything about it. It was as if Carroll and his players could do no wrong.

If Clemson and Notre Dame played 10 times last year, Clemson wins 9, maybe all ten.

Considering many dubbed that team as one of the greatest college football teams ever, I'll give you 9 out of 10.

Outside of Ohio State, those in the southeast are not threatened one bit by midwestern football, blue blood or not.

I can't argue with that statement. But they better take notice because the Big Ten is for real. Minnesota proved that yesterday. Big Ten #6 beats SEC #3/4.

I was actually sad that Book decided to come back. He was the weakest link this season.

Lol. Am I hallucinating or did you just write that?

He completed 60% of his passes for 3000 yards and 34 touchdowns against 6 interceptions with a QB rating of 149. Notre Dame is a pre-season playoff contender with him coming back.

Early prediction for 2020. Notre Dame gets their signature win in South Bend on November 7th . But they might have one loss going into that game. Wisconsin will be really jacked up and ready to play in Lambeau.

    13 minutes ago, Irishman said:

Your point that I originally responded to was that ND was beaten by Clemson by so many points, it proved they did not belong. I just pointed out the irony in that statement because they won the next game by a wider spread. In fact, they jumped out early on Bama; something they did NOT do against ND.

Clemson wasted Alabama because..........well, they just wasted them. They really only beat ND in the second period when Julian Love went down with an injury. Clemson did what a good coaching staff would do and go after his replacement. They scored 3 touchdowns...........boom, boom, boom. They scored one touchdown in the second half after he returned. Comical that not one person on ESPN aka Fake News acknowledged that fact. They just used the score as an opportunity to pounce on the Irish.

    20 minutes ago, Irishman said:

But as I stated, Bama won the right to not have to play any of them a second time.

    Agree.

  8. 9 hours ago, Irishman said:

As far as the 2010 season goes, I said it then and still feel the Bama team that year would have beaten any team that bad with a month to prepare., including Georgia. Yes, I know that Georgia played them well in the SEC title game. Should someone else have made it besides Georgia? The argument against Georgia, is that Bama WON the right to not face them again. Bama was by far the best team that year. It would not have been fitting to setup the scenario where Bama would have to beat Georgia two times in the post season to win a title, especially being ranked number 1 most of that year; while Georgia could have just split with Bama to win a championship.

I think you are referring to 2012. I felt like Notre Dame was the best team outside of the SEC. No one wanted to see an all SEC title and ND fit the bill with their undefeated record. I think the throttling of Oklahoma on their home field was an eye opener that set themselves apart from some of the other contenders...........that was a good win. Undeserving? I don't think so, but I do admit there were two or three SEC teams that year who may have been able to meet ND.

    Sorta.  Two underserved appearances.

Who would have been your fourth team last year? Please don't say Ohio State. Kirk Herbstreit went to bat last year for the Buckeyes and showed how biased he was in the process. I had the Irish as a 10 pt favorite over the Bucks last year.

To me it is success over multiple decades consecutively with very few down periods.

Wouldn't that disqualify USC? They've been anything but impressive over the last decade. And when they did do well it was because Pete Carroll was cheating.

Alabama went through a down period between 1982 and 2008 where they posted only 3 conference championships.

Texas has only 2 conference championships between 1997 and 2019 with none in the last decade.

I have a hard time excluding Michigan and Notre Dame as the two winningest programs in college football history.

The case for Notre Dame: Three 10 win seasons in a row. Two 11 win seasons in a row. College football appearance in 2018. National Championship appearance in 2012.

The case for Michigan: Winningest program in history speaks for itself. Hard not to consider them a Blue Blood. They haven't had a national or conference championship in awhile, but they win their fair share of games.

  11. Who are some of the teams to watch out for this fall?

Out of the Summit City I think that team could be Carroll. They have many weapons returning from a team that beat Snider and lost to Dwenger by a touchdown. They could possibly be the best team north of Carmel. Will they be? Only time will tell as there are many other good programs who will have a say. I like the direction Valpo and Warsaw are heading in. Snider, Penn, Homestead, Jeff, and Merrillville will always be solid. Elkhart?

I’m going to take some heat for this but you’re not a blue blood my opinion if you have gone more than two decades without a national championship.  It’s not a lifetime pass.

The kids you are currently recruiting were not born the last time you hoisted the title.

    Sorry Michigan and Notre Dame.

UCLA and Indiana basketball are also “has beens.”

My interpretation of a Blue Blood is more historical. I look at the body of work over a lifetime. If a team had 10 national championships but posted a losing record 20 years in a row, I'd still consider that team a Blue Blood based on past performance. There needs to be another name for those who have had the most success in the past decade.

Pretty accurate, in a “big picture” sense. I would love to see Texas and Nebraska reinvigorate their programs. College football would be the better for it. USC ... they can disappear for all I care.

I agree. Football is just better when the traditional power programs are doing well. I don't mind USC so much when ND is on the winning side of the rivalry.

I have heard a lot of reasons for not liking him, and even have a couple of my own, but I have never heard this accusation.

Lol, neither have I. What are some of the legitimate reasons? I did find it kind of comical that he brought up the missed field goal and a potential pick 6 when interviewed at halftime...................why even bring that up? He knew the Tigers were getting their a--es handed to them.

Oh I agree with you, definitely not saying the committee should have put anyone other than Oklahoma in with the way their system works. But, I also don't think Oklahoma is the 4th best team in the country. Not that it really matters, it's been a 3 team race all year and LSU likely boat races whoever they play outside of OSU/Clemson.

Oklahoma's not even the 10th best team in the country.

I would never admit this to my friends, but my dislike for ND has diminished over the past few years.  They do things the right way and still find a way to compete.  Stated elsewhere that I am a Michigan fan so not playing them annually diminishes my dislike for them.  Now, I do think that their win totals the past two seasons have been inflated as USC, Stanford and FSU are in down periods but that's not necessarily their fault.

I do think they need to move to the ACC though as they could compete against Clemson annually and get some credibility.

Actually, Clemson should defect and go to the SEC or Big Ten. But why would they? They are pretty much guaranteed an undefeated season in the ACC. All they have to do is blow out their opponents in impressive fashion and the playoffs will come calling.

If ND does ever join a conference, I hope it's the Big Ten. But then they'd have move ALL sports over from the ACC. Who knows what the future will hold. Will probably remain independent. Now, if they lose at home next year in a close game to Clemson (figuring that's their only loss) and still miss the playoffs, then a move toward conference affiliation will be taken seriously.

Next year they'll have their opportunity against Wisconsin at Lambeau and at home against Clemson. Hopefully Stanford and USC improve next season.

Your second tier is murky.  Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan and Florida deserve a promotion.

Washington losing Peterson will be interesting but I’d put them HM along with Baylor.  After what I saw from Oklahoma AGAIN, I’m going to have pause placing another Big 12 team in tier 2 and I think Ruhle is going to field some calls this offseason.

I love Mike Leach just as much as the next guy but they are Oklahoma without the steroids.

The playoff committee deemed them one of the Top 4 teams in the country 4 of the past 5 years. That's why I have them as a Tier 1. They may not even be a Top 10 team this year, but past performance puts them toward the top in my opinion.

  18. IU wins on Thursday..........or they come within a TD...........quote me. Those two are on a level playing field at the moment. I understand that Auburn embarrassed Purdue last year, but Auburn is a Tier 2 team where Tennessee is.................well, I don't even have a tier for them based on some of the losses they posted this year. They aren't a bad team, but they aren't good either. Lost to Georgia State. Destroyed by Georgia and Florida.

No love for the Irish? I know they have fallen short against the very elite recently. But they’ve won 33 games in the last 3 seasons and not many Power 5 programs can say that.

I can't speak for DT, but there are just too many ND haters out there. It's common knowledge. You either love 'em or you hate 'em. Notre Dame is one of the top programs in the country whether you like it or not.

When people equate an officiating error with “getting screwed,” it is offensive to every official, and to the team that worked hard and deserved to win. I’m not saying the two plays you referenced out of a couple hundred in the game were wrong calls. But if they were, they were honest mistakes, just like missed blocks, bad playcalls, incorrect reads, etc. It’s a game played - and officiated — by human beings. Mistakes, on all levels, are a part of the game. Learn to live with it rather than calling “foul” (no pun intended) whenever a slow-mo replay from an angle no official had reveals an incorrect call.

Honest mistakes? Seriously? It's the playoffs. They had replays to get it right. They still blew it. Not an honest mistake. A very stupid one.

I can live with it. On the bright side I don't have to see Fort Wayne littered with Ohio State fans donning their OSU wear . But if have any affiliation with OSU football whatsoever, then i'm pissed beyond imagination.

    1. Ryan Day is not long for Ohio State.  Every NFL team would love to have him as their head coach.  Id be surprised if he is not off to the pros within a season or two.

He seems pretty happy at OSU and motivated to get a championship. My gut tells me he'll be there for awhile.

    6. Is it too late for Charlie Spegal to bail on his IU PWO and switch to Air Force?  CS would be a star at the Academy given their ground oriented rushing attack and quick hitting runs between the guards, Spegal's specialty.

I agree, he could be a star at Air Force. But he REALLY wants to be a Hoosier! Go get 'em Charlie!

    7. There is something about James Franklin that is just not right.  Let me know when you figure it out.  By the way, Franklin's post game tackle of his own linebacker following a Gatorade bath was epic.

He did a great job of getting Penn State out of the gutter. He just seems to have a hard time getting them to the playoff level.

    9.  Did you notice in many of the bowl games how the cameras go to great lengths not to show the empty upper decks in many stadiums across the country?  The non playoff games are quickly sliding into total irrelevance.  They must be losing a ton of money.  Maybe ESPN will pull back on TV coverage of many of these meaningless games and we ill drop back to 15 bowl games instead of 40.  Its just ridiculous.

Not many who wanted to watch ND vs Iowa State or Penn State vs Memphis. I don't even remember who Florida's got, that shows how much I care. How about a match-up between ND, Florida, and Penn State. Sell-out crowd and good for ratings. But I get it. The bowls have affiliations with the conferences and their hands are tied.

    16 hours ago, DT said:

    11. Iowa gets no respect, and that's just the way they like it.  Just float below the radar and don't do anything fancy.  The Hawks have been sneaking into Indiana and stealing top recruits annually now for several years.

They are two or three four star athletes from being a playoff contender. Who wouldn't want to play for Kirk Ferentz? Great guy!
