So, my question,   What happens if this got passed, and you end up with 2 MIC 6A Champs, because according to your breakdown,  that is probably exactly what would happen.

SO then it would be,  well the MIC cant play anymore, because they win all the time.

Not bashing the idea, just a thought.

What am I missing here? Who are you implying would win that division?

  2. Class 6a is broken and needs to be fixed. We can all agree on that. If there is anyone who doesn't believe that, then you need to have your head examined........fact. Is there a better idea? If there is, bring it to the table. Splitting 6a into two divisions is the only way to go. If the IHSAA is satisfied with a school of 5000 playing a school of 2000 for the state championship, then shame on them.

    Michigan does it.  10, 1, 4:30, 7:30

It can be done. No one likes the idea because it came from DT.

  3. There are many coaching staffs who teach anti-bullying and protecting those who can't protect themselves. Being a football coach involves much more than just teaching the game of football. A good football coach also teaches the game of life. I'm not saying this was or wasn't being taught at Roncalli, but it needs to be addressed by the administrators.

That’s fair if the penalty had any benefit on the play. I haven’t seen the replay, but those holds, if valid calls, could have had no impact on the play or directly benefitted Burbee’s long gains.

Not saying it did or didn't. I get upset too when my team scores a touchdown and it's called back for holding. But after watching the replay, it seems like 90% of the time the penalty is justified by the huge hole the player made by committing the penalty.

Yeah an older Hobart fan got ko’d by a younger East Noble fan after he was asked to show some respect when the young man yes with a group yell FU Hobart. The kid was arrested. There were a lot of unfortunate things I saw. The East Noble team played a great game and they don’t deserve to have had some of the crap that went on there to take away from their accomplishments. There were a lot of things that happened though. I’m not saying Hobart fans are saints but from the whole set up of not being able to accommodate a large visiting crowd, the cars surrounding the visitors area Honkin, lights on, revving up the trucks, yelling at the Hobart fans and little kids even. And shooting off fireworks. It was a little over the top

I mean Hobart couldn’t even run into the field for home playoff games because it was against IHSAA rules of neutrality. Overall I thought East noble fans across the way were intense and cheered hard.  The ones that came over to the Hobart side to start beef on a few occasions.  Pretty Bush.

best of luck though to EN. Really good team. Go rep the North!

Respect for elders has gone by the wayside. I'd give the kid 10 years for that.

Valpo had 3 red zone possessions, and came away with 10 points, not 0 points as you state.  The one time in the red zone they got no points was the result of an interception.  certainly could have score more points with 3 trips and only 10 points

BD was not in the red zone once in the game.

Bishop Dwenger made it to the 25 twice. Once throwing and interception at the 15 and another dropping a wide open pass on the 10. Both times coming away with nothing.

Great defenses keep their opponents out of the endzone. Kudos to both.

Disagree, certainly. “Absurd,” is a ... well, absurd overstatement. It’s an opinion. You have yours, I have mine. I had no rooting interest. I doubt you can say the same.

Stating that Valpo "should" have won 27-7 is the epitome of absurd. Sorry, it just is. You can't take into account one teams mistakes but not the others. I don't know what else to call it other than "absurd."

You're not biased toward region teams? Not even a little? Your're from Munster?

Gimme New Pal  38-10.  I know Dwenger has a great defense but I'd say New Pal's is at least as good and the Dragons offense is much better.

I was going to debate this, but looking at the numbers...................New Pal has given up 104 points with a strength of schedule rank of 57. Dwenger gave up 113 with a rank of 55. I'm sure both teams gave up points late in games when the starters were out. I admit, when I think of New Pal, I think of offense. Apparently their defense is pretty solid.

    New Pal 35, Valpo 17

By my count, Valpo had 3 red zone possessions, 2 of them goal to go, in which they came away with 0 points. Dwenger’s defense deserves some credit for that, but from where I was standing - which was pretty close - Valpo shot themselves in the foot with penalties, bad decision-making, and poor execution. They should have won this game by a comfortable margin, say, 27-7 or so.

Maybe one of the most absurd statements I've seen this year. And Dwenger "should" have won 24-10. I guess the two times Dwenger was deep in Valpo territory and came away with nothing doesn't count. Good teams make things happen. In the end Valpo was better and won by a field goal.

I'm not going to dive further into the absurdity of your comment. Hat's off to Valpo on a great win. And good luck next week. I would love nothing more than to see them win state. Great program, they deserve it.

Didn’t Valpo just defeat Dwenger and hold them to 7 points?

Yes. Valpo became the 5th team this year to hold Dwenger to 15 points or less. It was Dwenger's defense that has carried them the last couple years. Valpo holding Dwenger to 7 points isn't much different than what a few other teams did this year. Dwenger holding Valpo to 10 is pretty impressive considering 29 was their lowest scoring total prior to last night.

I still have New Pal as a 14 pt favorite over a very good Valpo team. But they won't hold Valpo to 10 points like Dwenger did. I maintain that Dwenger might have the best defense in the state.

Valpo’s offense just methodically runs the ball behind the massive OL with the RB’s occasionally breaking big game. Two long runs for Valpo’s Burbee we’re called back for holding. One would have been a TD and the other was down to the goal line. Can’t have those types of mistakes against New Pal. They can burn a lot of clock if they can sustain drives against New Pal

More times than not, it was the illegal holding that allowed the RB to get to the endzone in the first place. Congrats to Valpo, they put more points on the board. But Dwenger may have showed tonight that they may have the best D in the state. Before tonight, Valpo's lowest scoring output was 29.

Fort Wayne Dwenger (11-1) at Valparaiso (12-0)
GAME TIME: 6:30 pm CT, Viking Field.
COACHES: Jason Garrett, 25-2 in 2nd year at Bishop Dwenger. Bill Marshall, 22-4 in 2nd year at Valparaiso.
    SAGARIN RATINGS: Valparaiso, 97.72, 6th overall, 2nd in 5A. Bishop Dwenger, 86.64, 18th overall, 4th in 5A.
LAST OUTING: Bishop Dwenger defeated Harrison (West Lafayette), 35-21. Valparaiso defeated Mishawaka, 49-0.
OPPONENTS' RECORDS: Bishop Dwenger 63-68. Valparaiso 54-74.
SERIES LAST 35 YEARS: No meetings.
    jh PREDICTION: Valparaiso, 35-14.

That prediction blows me away. Especially from John Harrell. I don't see it being more than a 7-10 point game in either direction. And I certainly don't think Valpo will put up 35 against Dwenger. I guess time will tell.
