I was simply referring to your statement about Herbstreit stating they could “run with anybody in the county” and then they got run “out of” the stadium against a fringe top 20 team last night, lol.

I can laugh about it too. What was more embarrassing than the score was the fact that it came against a program that has fallen to second rate status. Losing to a team with a great run defense in a downpour rain isn't going to define Notre Dame's status as one of the top programs in the country. Nor will it define Brian Kelly's legacy.

You'll probably still find something to laugh about when Notre Dame is 10-2 and playing in a major bowl game in January against a top tier opponent like LSU or Penn State.

Don't forget to make note of Notre Dame 2019 page 3 so you can hold my last comment against me if it's incorrect.

Again, just because I’m not a fan doesn’t mean I’m a hater. It’s more the fact your (notice I used “your” correctly) rose colored glasses doesn’t allow you to see the full picture. Perennial top 10 recruiting classes but never seriously in the championship talk. I pretty much agree with Bob Ref’s evaluation of Kelly.

Yes you did, congratulations on that......................... made me laugh. Anyway, let's talk about my "rose colored glasses." And enlighten me on the full picture.  I'm not sure how stating that a downpour of rain favors the team with a great run defense and no passing game makes me having "rose colored glasses."

Bottom line, before and after the ND/Michigan game.....................Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson are in a league of their own (none of which ND has been able to compete with on a recruiting level). LSU is on the outside looking in. Everyone else is battling for 5th place. Claiming that Notre Dame might be the 5th best team in the country on a neutral field isn't exactly "off the wall" thinking. How quickly people forget how competitive ND was against Georgia and largest ever crowd for a football game in their storied history.

It’s a MESSAGE BOARD and it was a TWO page thread, lol.  Not much looking up involved.

What’s sad are your “hot takes.”

Don’t hate me for keeping receipts.

Not sure you even know what a "hot take" is.

At the end of the day, Notre Dame still has 13 national championships (21 depending on the source). The last one was 32 years ago. Yeah, we get that. But the Irish were part of the playoff conversation 4 of the last 5 years. They play in front of a national audience every week. And they've played in front of a sellout crowd 269 consecutive times. They haven't been able to thump their chests and claim #1 since 1993, but they are still relevant. It drives the haters nuts. I love it!

    Go Irish!

No fan base in America is more delusional than Notre Dane football fans...better go out and get your IU basketball season ticket packages Irish “fans.”

The "fans" drive the university financially. Some of the largest donors didn't even attend the school they support. Take away the "fans", take away the sport.

Stick a fork in them, they are headed to a Dec 29 Weedeater Dandelion Bowl game against the 6th place Big 12 team. “They are who we thought they were”.

Jealous of Notre Dame success.................love it!

    You didn’t catch the sarcasm?

Michigan can't pass and has a very strong run defense. You don't think playing a game in a downpour of rain played in their favor? Then your not very bright.

Yeah, it wasn’t the weather. This is the story of Kelly’s tenure. Recruit players that are good enough to have a good team. But they don’t seem to develop much. They’re good enough to beat pretty much everyone they should beat. But they don’t win any big games.

Quarterback development has been a problem, but I don't know how you can say that for any other position. I think Kelly is a great coach. The fact that they have been in so many playoff discussions during his tenure despite recruiting restrictions is proof of that. What I don't understand about Kelly is why he insists on passing in weather conditions like that (North Carolina State)....................and quarterback development.

For the haters (Stax)..........................................Notre Dame will continue to be in the limelight week after week and they will continue to be in the playoff discussion as long as Kelly is coach. Sorry that bothers you.............just kidding, actually I love it.

    Go Irish!

I mentioned tradition and a winning reputation as being an advantage. This is where Snider falls and that's why (along with coaching) they're able to consistently win year after year. They pull in some of the best athletes because of open enrollment. (Yes, I was aware of open enrollment. We have that in Columbus too.)

The Luers contingent (for whatever reason it's just Luers) have making this claim that Snider's a magnet school for football and draws all the best athletes. If that were truly the case, wouldn't Snider win the SAC every year? They have 3 or 4 SAC championships over the last 10 years. There are lots of athletes in Fort Wayne and they are actually spread out through the schools quite evenly. Snider is good every year because of good coaching, plain and simple. Open enrollment is a real thing, but it's not abused the way some on here make it out to be. It's easier to make excuses and throw accusations at other programs rather than looking within your own program and trying to figure out what can be done to make it better..............human nature unfortunately.

  8. With regard to Day, I've seen more than a handful of first year coaches who started fast out of the gate, then went downhill from there.

With regard to Lambeau, that's going to be one expensive ticket!

  9. I would love to see Meyer at USC. Anything to beef up ND's schedule. Teams on ND's schedule seem to be cursed. I'm sure Wisconsin will be down next year and the year after. Ohio State and Clemson should be down in 2022. Alabama will slide by the time 2028 gets here. Seems to be the norm.

Doesn't ND ALWAYS (if not ALWAYS, would you happen to know when this began) end their season in California (either USC or Stanford)?

Wonder if ND joined the BT, if they could continue to do this.....

That's correct. When ND travels to California, it's always the final game. This year it's at Stanford, next year is at USC. When those teams travel to South Bend, it's always mid season.

Urban will be coaching at USC ultimately.  I like BK--he has surprised me.

Meyer is still a great coach, don't get me wrong. USC + Meyer would be dangerous. With the talent California has, all it will take is a top 20 coach to put that team back in the playoffs.

  12. 5 hours ago, DT said:

Would ND push out Kelly to hire Urban Meyer?

No. Absolutely not. Kelly has put a better product on the field than Meyer (the last couple of years) has despite higher academic standards to get into the university. The only thing that separates Meyer from Kelly is the quality of recruits, due mainly as a result of Notre Dame's admission requirements for it's athletes. In fact, if Kelly jumped ship to Ohio State, I think people in Ohio would forget who Meyer was. People forget how great of a coach Kelly is. He's coaching at a University that most coaches run from. In order to win championships, you have to have access to the best recruits in the country. Notre Dame is at a disadvantage there. What Kelly has done is nothing less than remarkable. It would be fun to see what Kelly could do at an Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, USC, Texas, or Florida. But it won't happen. He's Notre Dame through and through. He's catholic. He's a long time fan of the University. And he upholds and respects Notre Dame's high standard for it's athletes, acedemics, and playing by the rules.

Urban Meyer's better days are behind him. He's in one of the hot bed recruiting states in the country and struggled to dominate like he should have. Failed to make the playoffs last year (Notre Dame was better despite Kirk Herbstreits biased opinion), and was humiliated by Clemson the last time they made the final four. But somehow no one ever brings up that embarrassing loss (way more embarrassing than ND's loss last year). Anyone who thinks otherwise regarding Meyer need look no further than the success Ryan Day is having this year. Ohio State is the best team in the country this year IMO because Day is the head coach and Meyer is not. I have nothing against Meyer (other than ruining Rod Smith's college career). He's just not the same coach he once was. If Notre Dame let go of Kelly for Meyer, I'd have a heart attack.

  13. Notre Dame is out of the playoff picture for two reasons:

    1.     The winner of the Alabama/LSU game goes to the playoffs.

    2.     No one can stop Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Clemson.

Notre Dame, Georgia, and Penn State are the next three out.................in that order. There is a gap between the first five and Notre Dame. But it's not a big one.

The Irish will be crucified big time if they lose to Michigan. No shame in losing to a heated top 20 rival on their home field..........at night............on ABC. Win or lose Saturday night, the Irish are still at top 10 team.............easily.

Notre Dame is going for their third straight 10 win season and it's driving the haters nuts. I love it. Keep hating. Go Irish.

But if we're talking "super" conferences and football, I'd add Oklahoma and Texas.  Kansas is a football doormat and K State only shows up every few years.  The B1G added Rutgers and Maryland for the audience and some recruiting.  They aren't Midwest and neither is Penn State for that matter.  Adding Texas and Oklahoma would do wonders for the recruiting not to mention strengthening the conference.  In a super conference, there will usually be a couple who aren't going to fit the mold of what may be considered a geographic "culture".  Notre Dame was offered to join and refused for whatever reasons.  Missouri might be a consideration to fit the "Midwest" flavor, but they are up and down.  And I disagree the B1G doesn't need another historical power.  If it's going to be 4 super conferences, then YES they need another one (or two) power programs.  So are we just supposed to sit back and let the SEC continue to win everything in football?  That wouldn't be too smart would it?   If I have the chance to add a Texas or an Oklahoma, I'm in.  Why let them walk away to one of the other conferences and lose out?  Kansas for basketball?  Let them go to the ACC.  Clemson football could use another cupcake on their schedule.

Notre Dame is a national brand. They've already made their mark on the midwest, so no need to join a midwest conference. Stanford and USC gives them exposure to the west. The ACC gives them exposure to the east. Notre Dame will NEVER affiliate itself with the Big Ten in football.

    Zero boundaries?  Sounds familiar.

You never could get over the fact that the Snider/Luers series was so lopsided. Instead of acknowledging the fact that Snider's success over Luers is due to the size of the schools, you went on recruiting rampage against the Panthers. Certainly Snider's success had nothing to do with a great coaching staff that built one heck of a program, it just HAD to be recruiting. Even with the 1.65 multiplier, Snider is still twice the size of Luers................and that is why the series is so lopsided. Stop the nonsense Robert.

DT. You said it yourself. Per capita, Fort Wayne shells out more than their fair share of high level football players. If they all went to Snider, the Panthers would literally have 20+ championships.

  16. psaboy.......................Snider will not be at regional. OK, they have a slim chance, but doubt they get by Sparty.

Snider has the athletes to beat Sparty. They just have to make adjustments and figure it out. The big question for Snider is whether or not they get by Carroll. If they are not 100% focused on the Chargers, they will lose the game. I consider Carroll a trap game for Snider with Homestead losing. I'm 50/50 on whether or not Snider will get by the first round.

Carroll is a very good football team, let's not forget that. They lost to Snider and Dwenger by a total margin of 8 points. They were in the game against Homestead until late third quarter. They also took care of Concordia last week 16-0 with several starters nursing injuries.
