As fans, we’d love A LOT of things...

Gimme an SEC/Big 10 challenge in football annually.

How about a 16 team college football playoff?

How about we find a way to make the MLB/NBA regular seasons shorter and meaningful?

I could go on ALL DAY.

This is high school athletics people.  I love it to but at the end of the day the best team is holding the trophy on Thanksgiving weekend which is the ultimate goal.

Keep going, those all sound like topics worth discussing. That's what we do on these forums.

Fun, but not practical.  When the goal of the tournament is to reward the state champion, the IHSAA doesn’t care “when” you play...

Can't argue with any of that. I just get tired of watching rematches from a few weeks prior. I'd much rather see Snider draw Merrillville or Laffayette Jeff than a potential rematch with Homestead. Or how about Homestead vs Carmel. The greyhounds had their way with Homestead several years in a row. I'm sure Homestead would LOVE a crack at them this year.

I state that like it is my opinion........  We are better offensively then we were in 2016 and close to where we were in 2013 minus a Nick Ferrar. Would be happy to play either.

I'm sure you would be happy to play either. But your not in 5a, so not gonna happen. Sectional 4 awaits. Good luck.

If not THIS YEAR, then when?

FOUR weeks ago NC and BD were left for dead and WC and Carmel were thought to be the elite MIC teams.  CG was thought to be biding it’s time.

Now it’s October and NC and BD are the two hottest teams in the league and WC/Carmel have putrid QB play...

Not sure what to think anymore.

Anyone wish to send advice on my 6A poll teams 3-10 this week?  I’m all ears.

Homestead anywhere in your top 5. Snider anywhere in your top 10. I don't even know where to  begin with the MIC. Carmel won't make it past regionals..........might not get that far. The HCC might have the two best teams in the state. Merrillville might be worthy of top 10, might not. Lafayette Jeff might be worthy of top 5, might not. How good is Westfield? How good is Pike? How good is Carroll? This is borderline insane trying to figure out. Might as well just drop the 6a poll and let the playoffs decide.

I agree, I don't think Lafayette Jeff has played much of a schedule. They and Merrillville are lowest ranked unbeaten teams in 6A per Sagarin. Yes, how we love those now, right??

I've always believed those rankings to be spot on 😀

Seriously though, it wouldn't totally shock me if the SAC had 3 of the top 6 teams in the state. This is about as strong as I've seen the SAC in recent memory. Couple that with the MIC being down and I suppose it's possible. I wouldn't bet on it though. I can't wait for the playoffs. The playoffs normally answer all our questions.

Beating Lawrence Central and the 3a number 1 team is a bad thing now? I want to know what you have seen from Merrillville that makes you think they are a better team than Jeff. Merrillville going to OT with Crown Point is a worse showing than anything Jeff has shown this season. They are bound to meet in sectionals and we will have an answer but I’m pretty confident Jeff is the more talented team

I can't argue with Merrillville's win over Crown Point...................nothing overly impressive. There is a reason I left them out for now. But if they beat Valpo this Friday, that will trump anything Jeff has done to date.

I know I’m a bit biased but how is nobody talking about Cass in 2A? I have yet to see anybody mention them to rep the North. I see people mention Pioneer (who already lost to Cass) and Western Boone (who lost to a Western team Cass just beat). Like I said, I know I’m biased but they have got talent all over the field, and are currently undefeated but nobody mentions them.

Pioneer vs Lewis Cass Round 2 will be a war!

    Avon

    Brownsburg

    Carmel

    Center Grove

    Homestead

    Lafayette Jeff

    Warren Central

    There’s my list.

North Central beat both Center Grove and Carmel the last two weeks. How can they not be on your list? I've also got Snider on my list. They already beat a very good Carroll team and hung tough with Homestead. If they can get by Carroll and Homestead in Sectional 3, then I think they have a shot.

  9. 8.........maybe 9. The maybe is Merrillville. I want to see how they do Friday against Valpo.

Lafayette Jeff isn't on my list. Although I will be rooting for either them or Merrillville if Snider bows out. I think a 2pt win over Lawrence Central and giving up 66 to West Layfayette excludes them from discussion. I hope they prove me wrong. Having a great team coming out of Layfayette is good for 6a.

The drop off was already starting to occur before Coach O'Shea left.  Recall that, when LCC went up to 2A under Success Factor, they were about 20 yards from likely heading to LOS the first season of SF and 4 points short of heading back there in the second season.  When returning back to 1A, there was a notable drop off, which @LCCAlum and I had been talking about it coming since before LCC went up on Success Factor.  Still enough to pick up a state title, but not enough to keep Kiser and Company from making three straight trips to LOS.

With that said, O'Shea was a phenomenal fit for LCC and vice-versa.  His time at LCC ended up being a "perfect storm" kind of time between great coaching, great depth, really good talent, etc. that all seemed to have a great synergy about it.  I think it's likely that Pioneer would have made three straight trips to LOS even with O'Shea at the helm and, actually made the first of those, albeit a loss to Linton was the result, in the first of those trips.  I think Nay is going to be good for LCC.  I like what I'm seeing and I think he'll end up getting things back in stride soon.  Will it be back to the days of knocking off West Lafayette most seasons?  Probably not.  That has easily as much to do with where West Lafayette has come from/to as opposed to on LCC's part.  Will it be a return to the days of LCC manhandling the "younger brother" Guerin?  Probably not.  Again, that set of kudos is more tied to what Guerin has grown into through its own progress.  But I think the potential days of making sure that you keep Thanksgiving weekend open for a trip to LOS could potentially be in the cards for LCC sooner than most opponents would like it to be.

    Great post. Thanks

If Oklahoma even has a resemblance of a defense, this could be their year.

The gap after the top 7 (Clemson, Bama, OSU, Oklahoma, Auburn, LSU, and Georgia) is HUGE in my opinion.  Your four playoff teams come from some combo of those 7.

Not sure if Notre Dame Top 5 or Top 10. But the gap between Georgia and Notre Dame certainly isn't huge. Beating ND by 6 in Athens is anything but.

Losing Daelin Hayes for the season with a torn shoulder labrum is significant.

Hopefully losing Hayes for the year doesn't have half the impact that losing Love in the Clemson game last year had.

  13. Notre Dame.............either you love em or you hate em.

    1. Only a hater would say something that absurd...................."lucky the score was even close."

    2. Not delusional. Just stating what the haters don't want to hear. Notre Dame proved that they can run with anyone in the country. Even Kirk Herbstreit agrees.............and that's saying alot.
