I knew Valpo was big on the lines with 2 or 3 D1 recruits scattered across both lines, but they looked huge on film. You can catch their game against Penn on ihsaatv.org. Their O-Line was pushing Penn around with ease. The big Jr. DE, Cooper Jones, will likely follow in his dads footsteps and play at ND if offered. Supposedly, Ohio State has already offered.

They look like they could vie for 6a supremacy this year.

The answer is the last time they played.  Valpo knocked Penn out in the sectional championship game last year 21-0 at Penn.  In back to back games Valpo has beat Penn by a combined score of 55-14!

The game of the regular season will be in week 4 when Michigan City visits Valparaiso.

How much better is Michigan City this year than last?

We've been hearing Carroll is ready to take the next step for how many years now? Haven't finished better than 4th in the SAC since they've joined.  I believe last weeks showing was more of a bad Luers team than good Carroll team. This Friday.....Snider 35 Carroll 17

The Carroll district of Fort Wayne is still exploding. All of the growth is to the north side of the city. I could see one day, maybe 10 years from now, when Carroll could be mentioned with the likes of Brownsburg, Avon, Carmel, ect. But they aren't ready for that just yet. For now and the foreseeable  future, Snider and Dwenger will continue to own Fort Wayne. They have built programs that have sustained decades of success and their isn't any sign of a slowdown for either program. For those of you who don't know, Russ Isaacs still plays a major role at Snider as an assistant for Coach Tippmann.  And Jason Garrett of Dwenger won a state championship in his first season.  A Dwenger guy to the core. Both programs looked ridiculously good last week for it being the first week of the season.

Carroll's victory against Luers, on paper, is quite impressive. No one expected them to paste them 42-0. But Luers isn't the same program they were when Kyle's father, Matt, was at the helm. I'm not saying Carroll can't beat Snider, it's just more than likely not going to happen if Snider brings their A game. For those of you who aren't from Fort Wayne, keep an eye on Homestead. That's the team that could be capable of overthrowing Snider and Dwenger this year.

A prime example of the fallacy that the bigger the school the more potent the athletic programs should be, and the fallacy of the IHSAA's primarily enrollment based classification system.   As I have stated before Frankfort is a "4A" school with an at best "2A" sized athletic talent base.

So what is wrong with a kid who is born in Frankfort? How is it that they are shorter, weaker, and slower than a kid born anywhere else? A football program can be built anywhere. If a football team stinks, you can't blame the kids. It all starts at the top.

Awesome that you posted this, I didn't catch much of the national narrative yesterday but I happened to see PTI and hear these 2 dumbasses.  When the fans were booing I honestly believe they were just booing the situation not Luck himself.  How were they supposed to react to the heart-breaking/shocking news that their QB in his prime was retiring?  Unfortunately in a giant stadium there's no way to say "We love you Andrew Luck but we wish you weren't retiring 2 weeks before our most promising season in a decade".  Instead all you can do is say boo.

I think this year's Colts are still pretty damn good and I think they'll be a playoff team with Brissett.

Same thing would have happened at any other stadium..............................but it makes Indianapolis a hick town I guess. This is one fan of PTI who will never watch it again. Hopefully there are others.

Don’t forget that Tony Kornheiser spent much of his career in the Baltimore/D.C. area. He’s just a sour grapes former Baltimore Colts fan.

Did not know that. Good info. Thanks.

  5. ESPN - Pardon The Interuption     8/26/19

Tony Kornheiser - "Indianapolis is a hick town"

Tony Kornheiser - "when the Colts left Baltimore they must have run out of gas in Indianapolis"

MIchael Wilbon - "I hope Indianapolis loses every game they ever play again"

It is a game played by children and controlled by hyper-competitive adults, is it not?

And please give me some examples of this 'specific knowledge of the situation;.

    96-0. Never forget.

Half of those young men on the playing field are 18 years old. Referring to them as children is pretty demeaning.

97-0. Yes, I do believe you are referring to Dekalb. Coach Ron Kock took his team to the state finals and got waxed 35-0. Rules shouldn't be justified by what one coach did in 1994. For every one coach who runs up the score, you have 10 coaches who don't. One hundred points could be dropped on an opponent in Indiana at least 5 times per week if the coaches really wanted to. By and large, coaches just don't do that..............for two reasons. Reason number one is that they don't want to humiliate the other team. Reason number two is that they are smart enough to rest their starters and give valuable time to the younger players.

I don't care if a game has a running clock or not.  If you win by 35+ points you have run up the score.  End of story.

I would fire a coach if he took the foot off the gas up 35 in the first half. Teams have come back from that far down. Up 35 half way through the 3rd quarter? I guess I could live with that. A good football coach goes for the jugular when up 35. Maybe take the foot off the gas when up 42 or 49.

Yes, I am.Frankly a 6-0 game would be much more exciting, and a better football game.

It really depends or whether or not you enjoy watching offense or defense. Everyone is entitled to their opinion with regard to what a good football game is.

When Snider beat New Pal 64-61, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts stated that that may have been the most exciting game he's ever seen at any level.

Now that, is a BOLD 6a pick right there.

Wonders how good Lafayette Jeff is this year. Are they suppose to be better than last year? From what I hear, the team that beat them (Carmel) is also improved from last year. Snider.........better than last year. Homestead............better than last year. Where does that leave Penn? Fifth in the North? How good is Valpo (whipped Penn)? If Penn is the 5th best team in the north, that would be a first in several decades.

That was unofficially the rule in the past. If both coaches agreed to any kind of running clock at any point we would grant it. The problem is some coaches refused to do it and collectively the coaches in the state didn't feel that was a good rule. They have been trying to agree on a plan for several years and finally found something they could agree on. I think it's a good change.

So if this wasn't just the IHSAA and the coaches had something to do with it, I'm surprised they didn't set the number at 42 or 49.

Don’t underestimate Dwenger. They’re going to come out ready to play. I’m not saying you are but for all those thinking “they’re new to 5A” they’re out to make a statement. Oh when the saints to marching in.....everyone be ready to greet them. This year we’re ready.

    Looking good so far.

You're just gonna leave bloomington south out of the pack like that, after they seemingly handled castle (ranked going into this game) well.

Lol, I have no problem leaving Bloomington South out of the pack. New Pal, Cathedral, Valpo, and Dwenger are in a league of thier own right now. Michigan City on the outside looking in.

I'm not a huge fan of the running clock.  The rule that makes the biggest difference IMO is the 6 quarter rule. Up until this year, schools like New Pal couldn't really sub until the 4th quarter otherwise they wouldn't be able to field a JV team.  Now in games like last night, 56-0 at halftime,  the starters didn't play at all in the 2nd half and younger kids got more playing time.

Twice the amount of snaps in the second half for the younger players without the mercy rule.

  13. Is the mercy rule good for HS football? In the 2015 state championship game, New Pal scored 35 unanswered points against Snider in about a quarter and a half.

What really bothers me about this rule is that good football programs...........I'm not talking about the wannabes who run up scores in an effort to gain respect......................but actual programs who use the second half to to give playing time to seniors who aren't starters, and underclassmen who need reps to get better. This rule is an absolute disservice to good football programs. Congrats to the wannabes for causing the IHSAA create this idiotic rule.

Interesting how people forgetting MIchigan City. Just read they were up 41-0 at end of first quarter, running clock second quarter on. Can’t wait to see them play against Valpo in a few weeks.

Michigan City, in my opinion, is just a notch below the Big 4. I could be wrong.............good luck to them!
