Irish 21, Hokies 20.  That was a gift from God!

The Irish are now Bowl eligible.

The 99 yard fumble return for a touchdown made that game closer than what it should have been. Notre Dame had 440 yards to their 240. The 99 yard return resulted in a 14 point turnaround.

The way Snider let Becker tear them apart last night really shocked me. I said I would be surprised if Carroll won and I am. I know there was a lot of talk about all the Snider penalties but still.

Snider bullied Carroll last night the same way they did in week 2 with their ground game. I understand keeping a defense honest with a mix of throws and runs, but Snider killed about 10 drives between the two games by passing two much. A 5:1 rush/pass ratio last night would have moved Snider on the the next round. Snider's a better team than Carroll, but not by much.............I firmly believe that. Offensive play calling was Snider's doom last night......................first half only, they got it right in the second half.

Speaking of Noblesville, I think this answers our question about Homestead getting into the finals.

My guess is that they bow out to Carmel. They seem to be satisfied after winning the SAC for the first time since they joined in 2015.....................and beating Snider for the first time in 13 years. Last night was a wake up call for sure. If that is what a 1-8 team from the HCC is like, what will a 7-3 Carmel team out of the MIC do to them? I do think the Spartans will play Camel with lots of passion and put their best foot forward. Carmel has had their way with them in recent years like Snider has.

In all fairness to Homestead, they did take a hit when their starting running back went out with a season ending injury a few weeks ago. They aren't going to be the same team without him, but still enough firepower to make some noise in the tournament.

0-2 this week;  man that 31 point beat down has you all frazzled.

I was donating tonight either way clown.  Only thing that varied was the amount, based on the result of the powerful SAC champion.  @Coach Nowlin can verify.

Hell, should’ve given you FIVE points.  You were the one that stated 27 and then you tried to privately negotiate 21 after the pairings were released and you saw the “location” of the game.

Lol, sounds like you are the one that's frazzled. Thanks for the laugh this morning. And I believe you. I'm sure you were really going to donate last night regardless 😀

You just better hope “luck” and weather is on Homestead’s side tomorrow night and they cover the 27.5 or you’re 0-2 in a 6 day span son.

Who cares about the 27.5 point spread I gave you. When it came down to betting money that would go to the GID, you disappeared. I made my donation on Wednesday. I tried to make a bet with you that would go toward something good. That was Monday. Remember? I offered 21...........you declined. Then I offered you 24................you declined and requested 27.5. I agreed.  You disappeared after I asked you "how much"..........................until tonight at 10pm when you sent me a personal message saying............."LOL". You get more use out of this forum than anyone. It wouldn't hurt you to make a donation of some kind.

Homestead fumbled on first three possessions I heard, Not sure if they recovered or lost them, but sounds as if they got slow start.

Maybe something to do with losing their starting RB for the season? Could be a timing issue.

I think Homesteads problem was that they were overlooking a 1-8 team toward next weeks rematch with Snider. Well, turns out it won't be Snider.

Why can't Tippmann get this under control. This is a yearly thing for them.

I wish I knew the answer, but that's not why Snider lost. I find it fascinating that they pass the ball when they are up 14-10. Down 28-10 they run. My point? When they need scores they run. They should have been running the whole game. Snider's not going to advance because they screwed around with the pass in the first half against a team that they bully on the ground. They should have beaten Carroll by 2 plus touchdowns the first time they played. Is what it is. Congratulations to Carroll.

Much of your own doing on the overrating.

Yeah, I can't deny that. I've seen a lot of football Robert. The SAC's top 4 is pretty good. Honestly, I just don't think Homestead knew what they were getting themselves into with a 1-8 team. But that lesson should have been learned a long time ago. Records out of Indianapolis can be misleading. But you are right, I've talked the SAC up this year.

I would agree about Penn State.  I watched their game against Michigan.  They are a good team.  However, I don't see them winning in Columbus.  They won't have all of those home fans wearing white.  I've heard it said the Buckeyes are the most complete team in America.  I think that's a pretty good assessment.   I've watched all of the Buckeyes games this year.  They've had a couple of slow spots here and there but in the end, they've bashed just about everyone.  Their closest game was against Michigan State and that was a 24 point win.  And we all know how they just dismantled Wisconsin.  Offense, defense, and special teams, they are just a machine.  It's funny how good they are this year and it is also Day's first year as a head coach.  If they win it all, I wonder if he'll get Coach of The Year?  I would think his name should at least be in the conversation.  Right now I'd say it's between him (Day) and Fleck at Minnesota for B1G coach of the year.  If I were voting, I'd vote for Fleck.  But there are still 4 more games to be played and the B1G title game.  But I did say "right now" so today I'd vote for Fleck.  LOL

They've dismantled everyone they've played without a lapse. That's the sign of a national champion. If OSU wins it all, I can't imagine Day not winning Coach of the Year.

Other than Ohio State, Penn State is about the only other B1G team with a chance to get in the playoffs.  They will have to roll into Columbus on the 23rd of this month still undefeated.  Which means they will have beaten undefeated Minnesota on the 9th.   Lose to Minnesota and Penn State will be out of the picture no matter what they do in Columbus  If Minnesota wins out, I don't see them climbing high enough in the polls to get into the top 4.  They are currently in 13th place.  Then again if it is them and undefeated Ohio State in the B1G championship and the Gophers win, that might influence voters and get them a spot.  However, I don't see anyone in the B1G taking down the Buckeyes this year.  I think it will be Ohio State and either Bama or LSU in the final.  Clemson isn't as strong this year and I believe would lose to any of the other 3.

I agree. Ohio State is firing on all cylinders. Penn State is good, but not good enough to take down the Buckeyes in Columbus. This just seems like a special year for Ohio State. I have them currently at #1 in my poll.

    2.  I hope you realize the rain stopped early in the third quarter in Ann Arbor Saturday night.  It was a 17 point game and THE WORST pass interference call I’ve ever seen in my life allowed ND to pull within 10 points with over 1 1/2 quarters to play.  A 17-7 game with nearly 20 minutes remaining should be ample time to get up off the mat and compete, which ND didn't.

That's fine if you want to go there. Congratulations to Michigan on having the luckiest opening drive in college football history to set the tone for the game. Notre Dame defense dominates Michigan's offense on the opening drive forcing a three and out. Then Notre Dame's special teams dominates Michigan's special teams by blocking their punt. Ball skids forward, Notre Dame player touches it, Michigan recovers. First down. Nice lucky way to set the tone for the game. Your Wolverines, who are barely top 20 at best with an overrated coach, were extremely lucky to be able to play Notre Dame in worse case scenario weather conditions.......................the great equalizer. Too bad there won't be a rematch in better weather January 1st. Or maybe there should be since these two teams won't see each other for another 13 years.

    1.  YES, it is asinine to claim ND could compete for a top 5 spot after what we saw from them Saturday night.  Also, UGA is not what folks expected them to be at the start of the season.  Poor measuring stick.

I guess we'll have to see how good Georgia is at the end of the season. Or this week for that matter. Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson are in a league of their own. LSU is in tier two. The rest is a crapshoot (Notre Dame, Florida, and Penn State could be the #20 team for all we know). Maybe Florida holds that 5 spot. Maybe it's Penn State. Bottom line....................not much separation between 5 through 20. But according to you, ND isn't even top 20. Since you know everything, you're right, ND isn't a top 20 team and therefore can't make a claim for 5th.

It was no secret whatsoever. It was all over the sports channels. While Meyer was at Utah, and Notre Dame had done initial interviews, they sent one of their private planes to Utah to escort Meyer to South Bend. He said no thank you.

He was already committed to Florida at that point.

    4 hours ago, itiswhatitis said:

Yeah let's not talk about he's one of only 3 coaches in NCAA history to win National Championships at 2 different universities.  Yeah, let's just forget that bit of trivia.  Let's just talk about his failures.

I don't recall saying he was never a great coach. I just don't think he's the SAME coach he once was. Brian Kelly had an undefeated season at Cincinnati, took ND to the title in 2012, and made the playoffs last year. But it's ok to talk about HIS failures? That's a double standard if I ever saw one.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Urban Meyer has two national championships...............bla, bla, bla. He's also had his fair share of "embarrassing" losses in recent years. But no one want's to talk about those. I have nothing against Meyer. He's been through a lot of BS the last few years and I think it's affected him. He's not the same. No shame in that.

    4 hours ago, Bobref said:

You do know that Meyer spent 4 seasons as an assistant at ND under Lou Holtz, right? He’s quite familiar with the culture at Notre Dame, and they are familiar with him. I just don’t think that he wants to have a hand tied behind his back as far as recruiting goes.

    Fact.

    3 hours ago, itiswhatitis said:

And we all know ND hired Chip Kelly.

    That's news to me.

    3 hours ago, itiswhatitis said:

I find it amusing that Kelly is now rumored to get canned and once again Meyer's name is being tossed around as the replacement.

Rumored by who? World News Report?

  13. Very little brain activity these days on ESPN. Take anything Finebaum or Herbstreit say with a grain of salt. The two idiots on PTI are just as bad. Finebaum's goal is to get under the skin of anyone associated with Notre Dame. Herbstreit is so biased toward his Buckeyes it's sick. He had the audacity to say that Ohio State was better than Notre Dame last year. Outside of Ohio State alumni, no intelligent human being who knows anything about the game could possibly agree with that.

Urban Meyer is NOT the coach he once was. Sure, they did pretty good in his first season with the Buckeyes in 2012. And in 2014, they went from a barely Top 7 program to national champions after their 3rd string quarterback somehow lit a fire under the team. But really, what have  in they done in Meyer's final fours seasons? They won a lot of close games during a time I'd consider the Big Ten VERY average. They were waxed last year at Purdue..............trumps Notre Dame's loss to Michigan. They were embarrassed by Clemson in 2016..............trumps Notre Dame's loss to Clemson last year. No one ever seems to bring up Meyer's embarrassing losses............why is that? (can't wait to see the answers)

The thought of Notre Dame firing Kelly in favor of Meyer is an absolute joke. Meyer under-performed at a university that can only be matched by Alabama, Texas, and USC in terms of the resources they offer their head coaches. Kelly at Ohio State? Look what he did at Cincinnati. Imagine the possibilities there. Kelly is the better coach. Imagine Kelly at Texas. Not many coaches could do what Kelly has done at Notre Dame considering academic restrictions on recruiting.

If Notre Dame had any reason to fire Kelly, it would have been for hiring Brian VanGorder to lead his defense a few years ago. Other than that, Brian Kelly is a pretty darn football coach. Jenkins and Swarbrick are shaking their heads and laughing at Finebaum's comments as we all debate about this.
