That's the improper benefit and what they were hammered for, everything else you mention is hearsay. The NCAA punished USC solely for the actions of Reggie Bush and family. The punishment handed down was a travesty. Louisville got off easier for their hooker scandal. Absolute injustice.

I'm not saying there wasn't foul play, but the punishment doesn't fit the crime. -2 year postseason ban -loss of 30 scholarships -national title vacated all because what, a players family took money from an agent? Why do you think the NCAA hasn't acted on the current FBI probe into college basketball? Because they know they royally screwed USC. Here is what one writer had to say about the NCAA's punishment towards USC: "It's become an accepted fact among informed college football observers that the NCAA sanctions against USC were a travesty of justice, and the NCAA's refusal to revisit that travesty are a massive act of cowardice on the part of the organization." I don't care for USC one way or the other, but he's absolutely right, a complete abuse of power by the NCAA.

Had to do it Bob. Been awhile since ND has strung together a dominant era, most their accolades pre-date the modern era of football but still count for something. USC is 2nd all-time in bowl wins and it was all that long ago the Trojans were the premier football program in college football (2000-2009).

Football Blue Bloods in order 1. Alabama 2. USC 3. Notre Dame 4. Ohio State 5. Oklahoma Michigan, Texas, Nebraska, Penn State, Miami all on historical merit come next. Clemson is amidst a current dynasty but has a long way to go to reach blue blood status. LSU and Florida State I would have in the discussion as well.

Center Grove ran a lot more Shotgun this year than I've ever seen them run prior. You're right, there is nothing wrong with being different. But in the case of Noblesville, a budding suburb with 3,000+ students and growing, I just see running heavy splits, power football as a potential turnoff when my rivals are throwing the ball all over the field in a modern offense. I'm glad it has worked for Center Grove.

They do, most them being OL/DL. Center Grove has a phenomenal strength and conditioning program. what are you asking? What do you consider it? Tight splits, misdirection, all attempts at deception. It's different from the norm, to stand out. Look up the definition of gimmick. I can't answer that, I don't follow Noblesville closely enough. I would say so but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Did I ever say it couldn't be successful? All I said is that running a gimmick offense that doesn't translate to the next level, namely D1, could potentially be a turnoff to some. Noblesville is a still growing community with 3,000+ students. It's the 11th largest high school in the state. I don't buy for a minute that there isn't D1 talent or athleticism in that school to where some type of spread or modern offense couldn't be incorporated. I wish Coach Sharpe the best.

Couldn't you spin that to also mean running an offense that best fits your personnel gives you the best chance to win? You aren't going to convince me that a school with 3,000 kids can't run some type of modern offense. I mean are you telling me that a suburban high school in Indianapolis with 3,000 kids doesn't have the ability to run something other than a gimmick offense?

I remember very well, was on that team. We ran a lot of power formations that year (my junior year) and my senior year we ended up running a bunch of shotgun and Cathedral has ever since. And it's paid dividends. You're seeing more and more D1 caliber QBs coming to Cathedral because Cathedral finally opened up their playbook.

Ok I'm not saying there aren't exceptions to the rule, simply said it may be a turn off to certain players. If you're an 8th grader living in Noblesville and aspire to play QB at the next level and you have schools like Cathedral and Guerin running a spread offense it may appeal more to you. Being in the largest metropolitan area in the state, you have multiple options as to where attend high school.

No. Never said that. Agree, although it's tough to gauge how good a QB is handing off 50 times a game. Non-sequitur. If I'm a 6'3 200 lb kid with a lively arm living in Noblesville and my local high school runs a misdirection, power offense and I have aspirations of playing at the next level, how does that help me get there? Why wouldn't I go play at Guerin, Cathedral, Chatard, or take advantage of open enrollment and go play at a neighboring county school who throws the ball all around the field?

Get what you're saying, but Noblesville is a massive school district. If Fishers and HSE can run the spread, why can't Noblesville? I just think an unconventional offense like that MAY be a turn off to some as it doesn't really translate to the next level.
