Temp’s Top 25 (Week 1)
Boilernation replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Going to be a lot of purple blending in with the Irish fans on the home side. -
True. Time to pull my head of out of the sand...
-
Agreed. And I'm thinking they get off to a 1-2 start IN OOC play with North Dakota State, @ Nebraska and @ Colorado State.

My "OH MY" scores of the week!

Garrett 20 Adams Central 7: Past 2 games were 98-14 in favor of Adams Central Plymouth 53 Twin Lake 20: Signs of life out of the once respectable Plymouth program -
Thanks. I don't blame NC's coaches for keeping the starters in. They can use all of the PT and confidence building they can get. But, it does sound like the running clock would have held had Fishers kept their starters in.

HSE is definately the real deal. That run game is so brutal, especially when the QB is another RB. He's not the greatest thrower, but his arm is capable and he can roll out of the pocket to find a WR with his arm. Of course, HSE has a stable of tall WR's and RB's capable of catching the ball. They have some depth at the skill positions. Agree on Avon. Lafayette Jef is no slouch. It's so hard for anyone to break into the Brownsburg, Westfield, HSE and Fishers stronghold. But, I would probably favor FC over Noblesville. I actually like Noblesville's offense and I like that it's being ran at the youth level. So, we're now seeing kids at the HS level who have been running that offense at the youth level. But, I'll believe they can actually crack the top half of the table when I actually see it happen. I could be wrong, but I think Jayson West has a high celing at FC.

I picked Carroll as well. Thought HSE's offense would take a step back and was betting on the Charger offense. Did Center Grove look like they've taken a step back or did Westfield re-load with talent?
-
Not in attendance. I watched the entire game on the Charger Sports Network. HSE was that good. Carroll has Jimmy Sullivan and some good offensive talent so they were able to get some points, but HSE jumped out to a 28-7 lead. One of those TD's was in short yardage as Carroll fumbled a kickoff return. HSE is big and they pushed Carroll around on offense. 6'5 LT Cameron Gorin is committed to Purdue and he was clearing out paths of running room for HSE. Per Max Preps, HSE ran the ball 55 times for 285 yards. I'm assuming Cameron's father is Brandon, who played at Muncie Southside, Purdue and won 2 Super Bowls in his 9 year NFL career

My initial thoughts from reading scores and watcing a few games: 1. Did Brownsburg look that good or has the rise of Carroll and Leo (somewhat) killed Dwenger on the northside of Fort Wayne? Possibly both are true. 2. Surprised NC scored 35 on Fishers. Was that a competitive game or a lot of garbage TD's for NC? 3. Excited to see how Franklin Central looks this year 4. HSE's OL completely abused the Caroll DL. Plus, 2 fumbles inside your own 20 on kickoff returns is brutal when you're playing from behind. Unless Warren Central is the opponent, a lot of defenses are going to struggle stopping HSE from running off LT. And then throw in a dual threat QB who can run himself. Really liked what I saw from HSE's offense. No shame in the defense giving up points to Jimmy Sullivan. 5. Avon is facing a possible 0-4 start. 6. Same power running game offense for Noblesville this year albeit with a new look. Gone are the small Sr. ball carriers from last year. This year Noblesville has a stable of big RB's carrying the ball along with 6'3 230 Boston College DL recruit Israel Oladipupo. Izzy is still playing DE but he's also getting some carries in the run game. 3 different 6'1 / 6'2 Sophomore RB's were also active in the run game for Noblesville. Noblesville has a very good Sophomore class and about 11 of them are getting varsity minutes. 7. It's going to be a long year at the bottom of the HCC for Zionsville. Not enough talent. 8. I didn't watch this Westfield / Center Grove game and the stats for Westfield aren't listed on Maxpreps. How did the Westfield offense look?
-
I missed Dwenger at Brownsburg: Agreed. Dwenger fans are either channeling their inner Lou Holtz or futures on the Saints are looking grim.
-
Avon @ Lafayette Jeff: I'll roll with Avon as well in a close one as Gibson starts getting the Orioles back on track in Year 2. Fishers @ North Central: Agree. Tigers roll. HSE @ Caroll: I'll take the Chargers by 7. Carroll's offense should be ready to go. HSE lost their top WR to Purdue and top RB to Ball State. They return the dual threat Weston at QB, but will the offense take a step back? MV @ Noblesville: This has been a high scoring game the past 3 contests that went Noblesville's way with the Millers moving ball at ease in the run game and MV having a lot of success in the passing game. Not sure what to expect this year. Noblesville will have a new starter at QB who is a Sr. They'll also be breaking in some new RB's. Bowling Green recruit Aiden Brewer returns at TE. The defense lost a lot of guys who were 3 year starters or contributors. Boston College recruit Israel Oladipupo does return on the DL. This will be an interesting year for Noblesville. Will they take the next step with some new players? I'll take Noblesville by 10. PM @ FC: Not much to say. Will be a lopsided W. Westfield @ CG: I'll take CG as well by about 10. I am very interested though in seeing how Westfield looks in year 1 post Gilbert. Zionsville @ Pike: I was at this one last year and Pike could have easily won it. Similiar to Noblsville, I'm not sure what to expect from Zionsville. They lost a lot of contributors on O and D. I didn't see their scrimmage, so I'm not sure who is playing QB. The Eagles have a Junior who started a few games last year at QB and they have a Sr. who transferred in from Carmel. Jr. Sam Manna will likely take a majority of the reps at RB1 and he showed a lot of promise running the ball last year. Of course Wisconsin commit Eugue Hilton returns at WR. He's a TD threat anytime he has the ball in his hands. I'm hoping Zionsville can find ways to get the ball in his hands as much as possible in the short passing game. I'll take Pike by 6.

Per Poles, the plan was to ony play the starters 1 quarter. Thankfully, Flus made the decision to play through the 2nd quarter considering the offense had a slow start.
-
Haha. The punter is living up to the hype. Very impressive. That 40 yard throw to Odunze was unreal. Rolling to the left and throwing accross his body on the run, yet still perfect ball placement for Rome down the sideline. The TD that would have been had Odunze checked his foot placement was a nice improv play. I like that CW is looking to throw when he scrambles outside of the pocket. I have a feeling he'll throw a lot of picks this year figuring out what he can get away with. Probably not as bad as Mannings rookie year as the Bears won't abondon the run.

Yeah, considering Kelly as finesse is probably not accurate. His Oregon offenses under Belotti and then once he became HC were the first in college football to really push the tempo. For some reason I just can't wrap my head around the idea of a high powered offense led by Marcus Mariotta not being finesse. I think Kelly has found his sweet spot though. From everything I've read he cares more about working on offensive x's and o's than being the CEO of the coaching staff. I think Ohio State's offense is in a lot of trouble next year if McCord > Howard. Probably wishful thinking on your part.
-
I guess I just don't view Oregon as finesse anymore. I think they have the opposite of Chip Kelly now and have an SEC caliber coach with Lanning. The guy is only 38 and has an impressive resume with his work at Georgia. I like the way he coaches and I keep reading Oregon has a Top 5 national OL and a Top 10 to Top 20 (depending on source) DL. I have a feeling they'll surprise people this year. Plus, I doubt Eugene's average daily temps in October and November are that much higher than the likes of Big Ten towns. Highly likely more precipitation in Eugue as well. Their schedule sets up fairly nicely. As you mentioned trips to Madison and Ann Arbor will be telling. @ Madison gets tougher as the Badgers will be coming off a rested bye week. Michigan will have Michigan State before the Oregon game and Oregon should have a snoozer at home with Illinois. At this point I would probably still roll with Ohio State to win the Big Ten, but I'm still skeptical of the QB from Kansas State. Is he really that good? I don't watch much Big 12 football.
-
I agree with pretty much everything you said regarding Penn State and I'm looking forward to see if Allar can level up his Sophomore year. But, I agree with @temptation, I'll believe it when I see it with Franklin.
-
That might not be a reality. Oregon argubly has the best O-Line in the Big Ten and their D-Line is will likely be Top 5 in the Big Ten.
-
Oregon is legit. They brought in a top 2 or 3 portal class and have a solid coach. Penn State is probably too high. LSU should be in the Top 10.
-
Another hit for the Wolverines. Ben Davis grad and Bengals RB Chris Evans was carted off the field during the Bears/Bengals live scrimmage at Halas Hall. He's out for the year with a torn patella tendon.
-
I hope so. Personally, it would be a red flag for me if I were a GM.
-
I'm curious to see how this will impact the new CF playoffs. There will be some teams getting in that have no shot at winning a Title. I wouldn't be shocked to see some of their NFL talent opting to sit out.

I couldn't imagine giving up a Westfield or Cathedral education to play football at Warren. -
Yes, I saw the Baldinger breakdown. It was impressive for sure. Instead of tucking and running when Allen was squeezed he quickly went to his next progression and hit Moore with a 1st down throw. And he made it look easy. It was a sight for sore eyes after watching Mitch and Justin struggle so much with going through their reads. The D-Line is looking really good, which is a huge plus. I'm hoping Gervon can have a breakout year at the 3. He put the work in over the offseason to transform his body to be leaner and quicker. He did the same conditioing drills as the DE's.
