Scores: Sectional Semifinals
MDAlum82 replied to gonzoron's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Memorial Vs Jasper on Indiana SRN is stuck in an unending loop at the 1:54 mark of 2nd qtr...over and over and over and over again. Rebooted several times but keeps coming back to same spot. So much for a relaxing evening of high school football. -
Temp's 2A Bracket Analysis
MDAlum82 replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
IMO, Tell City actually game MD their "closest" game in their run to 2000 State Championship. I think MD eventually pulled away by a decent amount but the game never felt safe until late in 4th quarter. -
As someone who has attended the annual West Side rivalry game for more than 40 yrs, I was disappointed in the crowd, to be honest. The end zone area was only about half full and there were empty areas easily visible in most sections of the bowl. The visitor side stands were mostly empty too. There was a larger than normal Reitz crowd, likely owing to this being their best team in a decade and the fringe fans who have been pulled back in but I think the MD fans were the ones missing. I think many felt this was a potential blow-out and stayed away. There is a lot of commentary that flows back and forth among the opposing fans of these two teams and it can get heated at times and some simply choose to avoid it.

I still have concerns about our overall speed on defense. We seem a step slow vs SIAC teams so maybe just a 1/2 step vs 2A teams. We have a lot of people going both ways at RB/WR & LB/DB/S so some concern about fatigue in tight games. Agree we are getting healthy at right time but playing teams with speed like VL, RHS, etc will be a challenge IMO. Few 2A teams have that kind of speed but certainly L-S is one that does. Paoli always gives us a really tough game so nothing guaranteed in Sect 40. I think L-S has to be favorite coming out of the South this year. They have a lot of returning players from last year and plenty of speed at skill positions. MD could get taken out by Paoli in Sectional 40. They always play us tough.

Since Linton-Stockton has been moved to a completely different sectional, I don't think Mater Dei has much of a sectional challenge this year. The soonest they would cross paths with the Miners is the Semi-State round under the new 2A format. Not certain MD has the horses to get that far this year but if we can get hot again as we enter the playoffs, anything is possible.

Heard you lost your kicker? You guys are having a decades' worth of injuries in one season! Cannot help but think the game might have gone a little differently if you are able to kick the extra pts and don't get down by 9 late. Not certain if we can hang with their speed, esp at WR. I was watching on phone while at the Bowl (Thanks TigerFan20 for the link to the IndianaSRN broadcast you posted!) Those last couple of catches to close out 1st half were amazing for a high school kid. Vera just threw the ball in his general direction and counted on WR to go get...and he did. Best WR in So Indiana, IMHO. Good luck the rest of the way...hoping to share some more of your chili on a cool fall afternoon here in a couple of wks

As you know cousin, Mom was a proud graduate of Memorial and she adopted the Wildcats as all of her children and most of her grandchildren passed through. Over the years of competition across a number of sports, she developed, hmmm, how shall we put it tactfully...strong feelings about our west side brethren... She would come back and HAUNT me if I picked the Panthers over her Tigers. Plus, I have a feeling about this one😎

Does anyone know if the MD vs Jasper game will be streamed online somewhere? I thought I read on an earlier thread that Jasper had someone who streamed all or most of their games, similar to Memorial and the IndianaSRN??

Congrats to MHS on a well deserved victory. The Tigers seem ready to put their early season struggles behind them. T I thought the main difference last night was the Tigers' ability to control the LOS on both sides of the ball. MD could not open holes on offense to support any consistent running game which left them very one dimensional. Wunderlich held the ball too long and took several sacks at key pts in the game trying to make a play that wasn't there. Sometimes the best play is to throw the ball away and not lose 10+yds to a sack. On Defense, MD had trouble getting any pressure on MHS QB, which is a key part of MD's defensive scheme. Last week at VL, I thought our defensive backs looked a step slow and nothing I saw vs the Tigers last night changed that opinion. Compounding this, our DBs often looked confused on coverages and allowed WRs behind them all night long. Lots to work on this week for the Wildcats.

Do you have the link(s) available? I know HTF is covering this game but had difficulty getting game last wk via HTF connection. Isn't there someone who covers all the MHS games?

The 2 key drives by the Alices came at the end of each half. VL went 70+ yds to kick a FG to go up 10 - 7 just before halftime. Then, after MD put it in the end zone to take the lead with just over 2 mins to go in the game, VL took it 80 yds in just over a min to take the lead 31 - 28 with 56 seconds to go. Give due praise to VL offense & Hunt. That young man is a special player and gave MD defense fits all night. Congrats to Alices on a well-earned W.
