  1. He usually waits until later in the week to post, or so it seems. Far more than the avg GID poster, he tends to think over what he says and how he says it - lest he offend someone and create some bulletin board material for LS opponents. Always enjoy reading his posts and summaries of the Miners.
  2. Is the game info provided on the IHSAA site correct? Game time is 6:30pm on Friday at the Bowl? Going to be a cold one🥶.. Also, just curious here and not trying to stir the pot in any way but how did Linton move from Sectional 40 to Sectional 37 this year? Was putting them in Sectional 40 somehow incorrect and Sectional 37 is better fit as their true home sectional? Seems like a big move.
  3. There seem to be a few posters on the GID today that may have over-indulged themselves last night or, through no fault of their own😏, were over-served...
  4. Congrats to the Tigers for a really good season. It is a testament to how high the bar has been set by recent teams when a Regional appearance seems to be a bit of a let down for some. Considering how the season began, IMO the Tigers did themselves proud getting to the Regional. They just ran into a better team last night.
  5. It is nice to learn that for this young man something positive came out of the tragedy of being forced to leave his home country & his father in Ukraine. Hope he and his family continue to adapt and find happiness here in America. After all, many of us are just a generation or two removed from being in the same type of scenario. Best of luck.
  6. No disrespect to you, Bobref, or to referees everywhere, but don't you think the same can likely be said about many/most of the older officials? 😅🤣😂
  7. I am certain every school & team has a story like this but it is still good to read about this kind of dedication from fans & alumni. Apologies if posting this story from a local station violates some GID policy, as that is certainly not my intent. https://www.14news.com/2022/11/11/mater-dei-graduate-celebrates-44-seasons-wildcats-chain-crew/ By Tamar Sher Published: Nov. 10, 2022 at 11:08 PM CST|Updated: 8 hours ago EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Joe Koressel was born a Mater Dei Wildcat. “Ever since I can remember, my mom and dad went to Mater Dei football games, we would go to Vincennes, Terre Haute, and come back the same night,” Koressel said. Koressel graduated from Mater Dei in 1979, the same year he started working for the Wildcats’ chain crew. “I was at a football game the fall that I graduated,” Koressel said. “They needed a guy on the ‘chain gang,’ so I was leaning up against the fence at the Reitz Bowl and the guy said, ‘Hey, you want to do this?’ And I said yes. Been on it ever since.” Over the years, Koressel said he has seen a lot of talent from the sidelines, including the season that Mater Dei won the state title with head coach Mike Goebel in 2000. “The best win was when we beat Indianapolis Scecina and that gave us the trip to Indianapolis at the Reitz Bowl,” Koressel said. “It was crazy that night, I think the field was just about full with fans.” [RELATED: Mater Dei eying for third straight 2A regional win over Triton Central] For the past 44 seasons, Koressel has volunteered his time to the community he calls family. “I think it’s great for our players and students to see and get great role models as far as people who give and give and give,” Mater Dei head coach Mike Goebel said. “Maybe they can learn how to do the same thing. That lesson in life I think wears off nicely.” Throughout his time with the Wildcats, Koressel has rotated through every position from holding the forward and rear rods, to the box, and now he is the “clip man.” “My actual job is to place the clip on the chain, which makes it crucial on first downs because when they go to stretch the chain I could be off by a half an inch and not get a first down,” Koressel said. “Of course, I always mark it right.” Koressel told 14 Sports his goal is to make it to 50 years on the crew. “I tell people one arm bleeds red, the other bleeds gold,” he said. “Mater Dei is simply the best all the way around.” Copyright 2022 WFIE. 8. Week 13 Matchups Bloomington South at Castle [+20.5] East Central at Evansville Memorial [+21.5] Lawrenceburg at Southridge [+7.5] Evansville Mater Dei at Triton Central [0] Lapel at Linton-Stockton [-21.5]
  9. Thanks, appreciate the effort! I checked their site and they note that game will not be covered on their TC Network due to "IHSAA ownership" of the feed so maybe there is an IHSAA affiliate who will pick this up? I checked the Champions Network site and many Regional games are being carried but not this one...yet.
  10. Well, seems I am S.O. L . for radio as well... Does Triton Central AT LEAST have a radio station that covers their games? Listening to the home announcers is still better than none at all...
  11. Not what I wanted to hear but not at all surprised... Hopefully one of the local stations will at least cover it on radio.
  12. Again, if anyone hears of this game being streamed online or available via some other media, pls post. Thanks in advance.
  13. CalPreps' hypothetical, Project A Matchup" tool has TC as a slight, 3 pt favorite as well.
  14. IF the referees that will call the games are familiar enough with the system and how to properly use it, I am all for it. Otherwise it is liable to create more issues than resolve. Bottom line: get the call correct.
  15. I remembered it being in the evening but honestly thought it was on Saturday. Thanks for the clarification. Interesting that the last 3 games btwn these teams have been @ TC - yes/no?. We used to have the same situation vs Heritage Hills when it seemed we were always playing at their field. The 3+ hour bus ride makes this a long trip regardless of when they play. Imagine they leave around lunch time on Friday and have a similar routine as they have done for State in the past. Hopefully the game will be streamed as no way many MD fans can make the 3 hour drive on a Friday night. Best of luck to the 'Cats
  16. The same can be said for most/many high school teams. IMO, DB & SS are the most difficult positions for high school kids/teams. Need to be fast and able to make quick adjustments at speed and, oh yeah, and then come up and make hit on a RB coming at you full speed who often outweighs you. Where do I sign up? Good luck this week.
  17. Curious, what in your mind is Linton's "weakness"? My guess might be pass defense but that would be just a guess. Remembering last year's game, LS seemed to have a lot of speed and size on both sides of the ball in their returning Jr class, now Srs. They are many people's pick from South in 2A this year.
  18. Follow up question, if anyone as info about this game being streamed online or carried live by some media source, please post it here. Thanks in advance.
  19. Once again, Mater Dei will be travelling to Triton Central for the Regional championship. Should be a good game and there is certainly some background "bulletin board material" for fans to talk about leading up to the game. Per IHSAA rules, the visiting team picks the day and home team picks the start time. The last 2 times MD has travelled to TC, they have chosen to play on Saturday due to the longer bus drive. TC, in turn, has picked a late morning start time instead of a more typical noon or early afternoon start. Supposedly there were conflicts with other home sporting events - possibly a girls basketball game(?) - that created concern about limited parking thus necessitating the earlier than normal start time. Max Preps currently lists the game for 6:30 pm Friday but I believe that is the standard time they post until the home team gives them an update. Curious if MD will once again pick Saturday or go with the more traditional Friday evening game? If MD chooses Saturday again, will there be similar gamesmanship by TC with the early start time? Stay tuned...
  20. This one was closer than many, myself included, thought it would be. At one point, the announcers gave the score of Sullivan 24 - LS 21 and there was an audible gasp among the crowd at the NP vs Mater Dei game last night. Win and advance...that is all the matters at this point. Congrats to the Miners..
  21. "DT" = Desperate Troll?
  22. Week 12 Games: Castle Memorial Mater Dei Owen Valley SR Tecumseh Linton-Stockholm Syndrome 8 - )
  23. Bad week for most pickers! Moving on to week 12...
  24. Not certain about Burnett. I listened to the broadcast and don't recall anything being mentioned about an injury. Vera as a non-factor was a big surprise to me too. He was the difference against MD. Offense had much better rhythm with him at QB and his threat to run changed the game. Kept thinking he was going to come in at any pt in the 2nd half to give RHS a boost. Reitz had a couple of HUGE plays down the stretch but ran out of time. Glad to hear folks talking about the extra point attempt being tipped. Spread the word... It would be a difficult thing to live down on the Hill if you were the one who muffed a kick and lost the game back in 2022... Some Big Blue fans can be rather unforgiving and unkind, at least in my 50+ years of dealing with them.
  25. Having watched Reitz play several times this year, IMO, their QBs became much too dependent on simply throwing the ball downfield and having one of the excellent WRs go get it, which they often did. This did not play out vs Boonville however with the 3 INTs sealing the Panther's fate. I have no heard this mentioned anywhere here on GID or local paper but from people at the game, they said the last extra point attempt was tipped. Any one able to confirm this?
