That is one of the improvements I felt needed (with my comment of getting better). Having that type of performance (focus and discipline) makes them a much better team.

I saw Mt. Vernon beat Evansville Memorial 42-28 at Enlow. Did they ever make it to the Reitz Bowl on time to play Reitz or was it a forfeit? And Lysander

Not really out of the dark, just unnoticed by some not near the Indy area. 11-3 and lost in Semi-State to Memorial in 2019 (several key players this year were starting as Soph's in 2019). In 2020 finally knocked of New Pal, but ended up losing to eventual State Champion Roncalli in Regionals. I was leary when they started the season 0-1 to Noblesville (although Noblesville runs an odd offense teams don't see much former Laporte HC). It was hard to gage in their conference, but when they beat New Pal as sound as they did I felt they were finding their identity. When they beat Roncalli last week, I really knew they were ready to take the next step. I had not watched much of Memorial at all so I wasn't sure what to expect. I did know the Tigers would have their handsfull as Roncalli looked menacing in 4A. Haven't watched much of Northridge, but they will have their handsfull with Mt. Vernon for sure.

Yes they did, and they have had the potential and have shown it at times through the year. When I said get better it wasn't about QB play or running the ball etc. It was about mental focus (no dumb penalties that put you behind the sticks, not missing assignments, blitz pick-up, not holding onto the ball, etc etc) Just the mental focus. Wasn't a dig on anyone just if you want to be the best the mental focus has to be there. At times they have shown that 100%, other times they have had a lapse in that. They will be fine. Zionsville will present some challenges (much more than New Albany did) I would say behind Center Grove, Westfield, and Brownsburg that Zionsville will be one of the Irish's toughest tests. I would place New Palestine right behind Zionsville (DC defensively but they had struggles offensively when they had to put Tracy at QB due to injury of their QB).

Just to clarify I don't say that in a negative light about Zionsville. They usually get overshadowed by Brownsburg, Avon (even though this was a down year for them), HSE, and Westfield (as of late). However the Eagles may come out of conference with a few losses, but they always tend to get better through the year and are always competitive with some fight. I have much respect for the Eagles DC Larry McWhorter (former Z-ville HC and Convenant Christian HC). During my broadcast/webcast days. He was the only Head Coach I knew that preferred to be in the press box during games. Honestly a gem at calling a defense and an even better person to talk to.

To be totally honest The Reporter is in Greenfield (where Greenfield-Central High School is located). They are currently covering Mt. Vernon (Because GCHS is not playing in the tournament) they also covered New Palestine during their Tournament runs (because GCHS was out of the tournament). They are all in the same conference the HHC.
