I would expect more wing t next year.  Our JV quarterback is very talented but not as athletic as Tayven.

Thank you for the answer. It was just a thought I had. I know what Jackson brings to the table and the incorporation of spread with his talents. I also know Coach Moore adapts to his talent. You have more of an eye on what is behind current starters, thought I would ask.

Who transferred from New Pal to CG?

Doesn't pertain to this game but more of a question for a knowledgeable CG guy. After Jackson graduates do you think we will see CG in more Wing T sets with occasional spread with the QB behind him? Or do you think it will be more 50/50 or a little heavier to spread sets. Just curious because I don't get to see much of CG's back-ups.

FWIW, I have heard much respect for the Irish defense and the defensive line in particular.

I have watched a couple of games. From what I have seen the Irish defense has looked very good. If I were to pick something of a weakness of the defense it would be their occasional mental lapses. By that I mean when they have a lapse and unnecessary penalties that extend a drive like an encroachment etc. They play fast and physical though.

I do admit I have only watched New Pal against Decatur Central (a game they should have won) and last week against Whiteland. Aside from the 1 long TD run Whiteland had early on (listening to Coach Ralph at halftime talk about that play made me chuckle his wording was perfect and I enjoy listening to him speak what goes through his mind). New Pal doesn't tend to have a wow factor player on their team and they are young. I am very impressed how well they play as a team. I am also impressed with their improvement from week 1 to now (even though they should have won the week 1 game). You can tell Coach Ralph and staff work really hard on the fundamentals and conditioning of their players. I would say all of you are thankful each passing week for the mind Coach Ralph has when it comes to football, his players, staff, and community.

More importantly I hope Max is having fun and you are having fun watching him play! Has Sampson cut his hair yet (I kid I kid).

I don't know specifically what happened in the CG/Cathedral JV game, but seems that common sense was lost and had left the building.

Nor do I, but I would imagine deception or cheating wasn't the intention.

I only stated the rule because it was brought up about Friday night and special teams. Reading the rule it looks like any special teams play doesn't count toward the quarter rule so I didn't get the correlation for Varsity. Like I said I don't put much into JV games other than it is rep for players that aren't Varsity starters.

  5. 40 minutes ago, Bash Riprock said:

I see...so that allows you to rationaliize non-compliance/cheating.  It is not just about the JV game.  It impacts the friday night game by providing additional depth....in this case to special teamsDepth that the opponent was not afforded.

Cathedral then had a coach foolishly post on this forum making a case for non-compliance.  It speaks loudly about the culture.

Most of us are not foolish enough to believe that when "hands are caught in the cookie jar" it is the very first time......

I don't and didn't rationalize any non-compliance/cheating. Just don't put much into JV football games or deem a school evil (especially when it is tournament time and there are no JV game).

Shouldn't have any bearing on "Special Teams" for Friday Night

    Q. 54-3 Is a football player charged with a quarter of participation if the student participates in a Varsity kicking down?

    A. No, a student participating just in a Varsity kicking downs (kickoffs, kickoff returns, punts, punt returns, field goals, and kicked extra points) during a quarter will not have the quarter count under the maximum quarter rule, rule 54-3.1.

    Q. 54-4 What is the maximum number of season quarters in which a football player may participate during one week?

    A. Maximum weekly season quarter participation is as follows: Varsity Sub-varsity

    4 0

    3 1

    2 4

    1 4

    0 4

I've seen Coach Peebles coach at Southport (even played CG a few times) and Lawrence Central. Has not had a bad culture anywhere he has coached. You believe what you want honestly that is up to you. Just like some wanted to cast a bad shadow on Coach Moore's coaching culture (a soured parent from what I hear). I wouldn't make generalized statement about culture of a staff you haven't even worked with.

For the 2nd time back to the game at hand between New Pal and Cathedral. Are both teams looking to be relatively healthy? Everyone has bumps and bruises right now any significant injuries.

A Cathedral JV player played 5 varsity (non-special teams) snaps in the Friday night game against Center Grove spanning more than one quarter and then played in the JV game the following Saturday morning, which was also the last game of the JV season. By rule it's not allowed and Center Grove addressed the issue.

As to why he's upset? Who knows, dude likely just needs a better hobby.

Ah I see. So a Cathedral JV player got in for a few snaps on Friday night and played in the JV game on Saturday and now they are evil. Okay, neve thought I would see the day so much importance was put on the play of JV. At any rate should be a good game between the Dragon's and Irish Friday night.

As stated in the Bylaws any IHSAA licensed Official can referee a game, that can be a parent, alumni or other. I believe just because you can do it does not make it right.

    1. Assignments
      • An IHSAA Recognized Assigner shall assign IHSAA Officials through the use of The Arbiter.
      • An IHSAA Recognized Assigner shall assign IHSAA Officials to contest based upon competence.
      • An IHSAA Recognized Assigner shall assign IHSAA Officials to contest without regard to race, national origin, gender or age.
      • An IHSAA Recognized Assigner may not exclude an IHSAA Official who is a member of another assigner’s group and may not limit the assignment of an IHSAA Official based upon the Official’s membership in any particular local association.
      • All game contracts shall be between the member school and the IHSAA Official; the contract will be generated and sent to the official through The Arbiter.

I should also state with how short handed officials are, I think any school will take what they can get.

Like I said I am clueless on your quote or number 2 with something dealing with a JV game. It wouldn't be something I would know about, care to know about, or any of my business. Obviously it has you upset.

It is not hatred and I have nothing against Irish athletes/students. I have had a few fiends that have attended Cathedral.   I have a dislike to the attitude / way cathedral chooses to run it's athletics  programs. I will give two examples one recent and one in the past.

First Cathedral believes that if they don't believe in a rule that they don't have to follow it and if caught breaking the rule there should be no consequences. Confirmed be a so called coach on this form (JV quarter limit).

The second example comes from my playing days when Cathodal hired alumni to Referee there basketball games. Can you image looking up and seeing  FastpacedO or Footballking16 referring against you. May be they can be unbiased. hmmm

Like I said the hatred is obvious. Very difficult post to read. Not sure what you are speaking of the first example (JV quarter limit).

The 2nd doesn't IHSAA give referee's to Officiate HS games. Not sure how I tied into this, but okay.

The game peaks my interest because of what you said about Indy vs Fort Wayne. But also Dwengers improvement from the start of the season. Zionsville will be a formidable foe..they play a hammer of a schedule and won the games they were supposed to I guess.  While you could say the saints were a little weak at the start. I’m going to go with Bishop Dwenger.

I think most who follow high school football would favor Zionsville. Both have similar records, but it's widely accepted that the HCC is the better conference.

JH has it as 42-24 in favor of Zionsville based off of Sagarin ratings

Fort Wayne Dwenger (7-4) at Zionsville (7-5)

Maybe my post should have said I wish NP wins buy 3 touchdowns because it would be hilarious to watch Irish fans lose their mind.

I am sure they get it and aware of your hatred for the team they support. doubt they would lose their mind with a loss (at least most of the regulars I see on here).

I think they took over on downs with a little over two minutes left, and Cathedral was calling TO's to try and stop them.

Cathedral turned the ball over to CG on downs with 1:39 after an incomplete pass on 4th down (on 3rd down the Irish QB slipped and fell at around the 8). CG had the ball first and goal from the 8. After 2 running plays on 1st and 2nd down CG scored with 27.7 secs left on 3rd down (Cathedral had all 3 timeouts as they did not call one).

New Pal played Decatur to a two-point game in Week 1, outgaining the Hawks by a lot and had a chance to win with a field goal attempt at the gun that was inches wide of the goalpost. So to say they're a few rungs down the totem pole wasn't borne out on the field when they actually played each other.

Cathedral's a favorite, for sure, but NP compares very favorably with DC.

I think the claims are coming after slobberknocker proclaimed a 3 TD victory for the Dragons. I won't say the d\Dragon's can't win the game, but I very seriously doubt the beat the Irish by 21 points if they were to win.

The DC vs New Pal game was week 1. Both DC and New Pal have improved since then as have the Irish. New Pal should not be taken lightly.

No Cathedral did not take any timeout after they turned the ball over on downs deep in their own territory. It was under 2 minutes when CG started 1st and 10. I believe they scored on 3rd down with about 40 secs remaining. I would have to go back and look at the video.

So are you saying NP will beat Cathedral 21-0? Not sure what you mean. BTW the Cathedral vs Brebeuf game was 38-7 prior to subbing, Brebeuf scored 14 points in the 4th qtr against 2nd and 3rd string defense.

For the most part, the Tournament Success Factor has done what it intended, bumping parochial schools up.  New Palestine and Columbus East have been the public schools most effected, but both have done well enough to not complain too much (East may have a legit complaint).

In my opinion, Cathedral plays a 6A schedule, and should request to play in 6A playoffs in Indiana.  They don't.  That's fine.

I would like to see a rule where a parochial starts one class above its enrollment, and a public cannot be bumped more than one class over its enrollment.  Neither New Palestine or Columbus East have any business playing in 6A.  East was unlucky enough that their run of success came in the same two year cycle, while NP's was split over two cycles, which is silly.  Cathedral should be in 5A or 6A at a minimum, which the Tournament Success Factor has done.  They should never slum it in 4A again.

The only reason I don't like this is because most only think of the strong Parochial/Private schools (Cathedral, Chatard, Roncalli, Lutheran, etc). There are however Private/Parochial schools that don't enjoy success that this would effect (Providence, Oldenburg Academy, Hammond Noll, Park Tudor). That is why I like the Success Factor it addresses teams with success as there are Public schools that enjoy success. When it comes to schedules I really don't see that being a determining factor, Schools that are not in a conference schedule whoever they can get each year. Some years those schedules are tougher than other years.

If we plow through remainder of playoffs with sizeable win margin I will be very disappointed if Cathedral brass does not lobby/petition IHSSA to move to 6A in fall 2022.

No dog in the fight but honestly, I wouldn't lobby petition to play anywhere (down or up). I would sit back and let them move you to where you fall (enrollment, success factor etc). Just leave it up to the IHSAA (like every other team/school). Success on the field moves you up, non success puts you in you're enrollment class. I have respect for many programs.

Do you honestly believe (no offense to New Pal) that if New Pal loses Friday night they will petition to stay in 5A or will they allow themselves to go back down to 4A. I don't mean that in a mean way at all, most likely they they are going to let the IHSAA move them wherever they should be. I don't think that should be any different for any school be it Private/PP or Public. Play where they place you!

Serious question that is in no way intended as a shot towards any program...

Does BD even game plan for the sectional?  Do they have to?

I know there is coach speak and no one would admit it but I bet they have been preparing for either Brownsburg or Carmel since the end of the regular season.  They'll play their best football...AGAIN.

The last 3 years they probably haven't needed to with Perry Meridian, Tech, and Southport.

Prior to 2018 though they were in some rather strong Sectionals. I think for a couple years it was BD, WC, LN, and LC. Then prior to that I believe they were in with Avon and Brownsburg.

So New Pal should be good to very good next year?

I would say 100% yes they should be very good next year with a lot of young talent learning this year. They actually have progressed to be good this year with what you would call trial by fire. They graduated an extremely talented group in 2019. When you have that many talented upperclassmen playing the underclassmen don't get as many reps and they will have to learn with experience. New Pal definitely has a bright future, heck they are playing good football right now. I watched them against Decatur Central (a game they should have won) and they were solid, they just needed to learn and grow. Yes they took some lumps starting 1-3, but they learned a lot about themselves in those 3 losses to good teams (all who are still playing minus DC who lost to Cathedral last Friday).

    10 hours ago, CaptainHook said:

Only have 4 seniors starting.  Quarterback, guard, linebacker, and safety.  Several seniors in the defensive line rotation, though.

At 1-3, this group had a lot to learn about playing hard and needed to improve their mental toughness.  They've grown up a lot the last few weeks.  I doubt it's enough to legitimately compete with the Irish on Friday, but 8 weeks ago, I didn't think they'd win the sectional either.

FWIW, two junior OL and one sophomore OL are getting legit FBS looks.

Agreed, I remember you specifically stating in a post they had a lot of learning to do. Coach Ralph and staff have definitely gone to work and have them improving each week.

Do either of these teams really consider wing-T as their base anymore though? CG is probably in it more, but they do pass a lot and are in the gun most of the time from what I have seen this year.

I would say for Center Grove it is about personnel. CG still runs Wing T, but with Jackson at QB they can be very versatile and run some spread. CG has mixed in spread from time to time over the past few years, they may be in spread a little more now though with Jackson.

    Who?

    The coaches?

The posters?  (Who have nothing to do with the outcome of the game.)

No player from New Pal's current team was on the field in 2019. However there are a few Seniors on Cathedral's current team that were on the field in 2019 both Offensively and Defensively and were starting as Sophomore's. That being said I am sure the players are just preparing for their current opponent and not things from 2019.

    58 minutes ago, FootballQB1 said:

I think you have your teams mixed up. This year’s team is heavy senior dominated. I believe Cathedral has 19 of 22 starters seniors. 1 junior on defense and 2( Soph and junior) on offense.

I believe he was talking about New Pal's current team (2021) is Sophomore/Junior heavy. New Pal's 2019 team that beat Cathedral in the Regional 35-10 was Senior/Junior heavy.
