Here are Massey's picks too.  I would bet the farm, back up the truck, & go all in on Mt Vernon NOT defeating "Reitz" tomorrow!  😜

Impressive! Mt. Vernon will be playing 2 games on Friday!! One at Enlow and one at the Reitz Bowl I am assuming! What is the traffic like Friday evening from Bosse to Reitz will they have time to warm up? 🤣😂

I think it's awesome to see this history. Still wondering how they transported 30-40 players either to New Albany or Indy in those days. Looks like the first school bus wasn't manufactured until 1930. Assume they must have taken a train.

"In 1927, a Ford dealership owner named A. L. Luce built the first bus that primarily used steel panels. In 1930, Wayne Works introduced the first all-steel school bus body with safety glass windows."

Looking forward to this matchup as Marshall gives Merrillville a dynamic that they didn't have last year even with a Notre Dame recruit like Johnson. Westfield manhandled Merrillville last year and I like that Merrillville has ramped up how physical they play this year, starting with Grant, talk about throwing your weight around.

Ultimately talk is cheap. I sincerely hope we see a great game as Merrillville is a fantastic football team with no losses on their schedule. Westfield also is a fantastic team with their only loss to Cathedral in week 1.

I hope it is a terrific game. I doubt highly you will see much talk from Westfield on the game. I think both teams are fantastic.

Random observation after watching some of the Scecina/ Central Catholic game: Scenina has the blandest uniform / helmet combo I've ever seen. Reminds me of a generic combo from a 1995 Eastbay magazine.

Appreciate the banter, certainly no offense intended.  😎

I have been impressed by Scecina in the videos I have watched.  I do not follow them during the season so no way to gauge how well they have played the last few wks vs regular season.  I know they avenged a close, early season loss to HC in the sectionals by 3 TDs, so something went their way in that 2nd game.   They are very fast & certainly capable of defeating MD.

However, I think MD is also firing on all cylinders at this point which should make this a very good game!  One thing area where Scecina has looked vulnerable on tape is passing defense.  They have a strong pass rush but when QBs have had time, they have been successful against Scecina D.   MD has a pretty good passing game, better than recent teams Scecina has defeated, IMO.  So that is where I am hanging my hopes for a Wildcat victory this Friday.  I would feel better if Scecina had the 4 hr bus ride but MD has been there, done that 2X already in the playoffs!  Best of luck to both teams.

Only common opponent is Triton Central Scecina beat them 27-0 and Mater Dei 35-7. Makes for a very intriguing game!

They were technically a 6a program this year..n not sf 6a..bulls in a jewelry shop.. I've seen stranger things happen though n the wolves won't be intimidated..should be a doosy

Michigan City is definitely a good football team (re-watched Valpo at MC last night). They have some good speed and playmakers that can certainly make plays at times and game will definitely be a good game. All that being said I don't feel MC brings anything to the table that teams Zionsville has played bring (Westfield, Brownsburg, HSE, Harrison W.L., Dwenger). Yes MC has the capability to beat Zionsville, I will stick with the Eagles by a FG since it is at MC.

Great insight and data here. Not surprising that Cathedral has the most wins considering they should be a 6A program permanently.

The only avenue I see to changing the current 6A landscape and challenging MIC domination is by adding all P/P schools to 6A. I truly believe Cathedral, Roncalli, Chatard, Brebef, Evansville Memorial, Dwenger, etc. could all compete in 6A and finally challenge the MIC and improve Indiana football.

I am looking forward to getting a firsthand look at Joey Tanona, Zionsville’s offensive tackle headed to Notre Dame to help rebuild that offensive line.

What you didn't care for my Observer glasses comment! (All in fun I just kid you). Glad ND has added you to the ND Indiana talent scout team under the guise of Officiating Observation though! 🤣

Yeah I obviously knew what you meant. But I think you’re way off on this. If anything the Eagles have been there done that and MC is in uncharted territory.

The Eagles don't get a lot of notice honestly. They have been steady and fly under the radar. I felt they gave Cathedral's defense quite a battle last year, just couldn't come up with stops defensively in the end. Won't be easy going up to Michigan City, I will take Zionsville by a FG because it is a road game and MC has some solid players offensively.

BD should have lost to that Arlington team, but the 56-yard FG by Damon Fine saved the Giants.

    https://audioboom.com/posts/7411673-20-years-damon-fine-wins-1999-regional-on-a-56-yard-field-goal

Coach Harpold had a fantastic team that year with Ellis at RB. I watched them live beat Cathedral 21-20 in OT (was a terrific game). The Arlington at BD was also a terrific game I watched in person. Fine was an outstanding kicker, I am not sure anyone in the stadium that night felt 100% on Fine hitting that FG from 56 yds. I am sure Coach D would have rather been kicking a 35 yarder so he wouldn;t have had as much of a pucker effect!

Seymour went to state  in early 90s rb name Michael Batts. I believe he is a comedian on the west coast nowadays .  http://www.almanacsports.com/football/schedule.php?team=SEY&season=1991

Seymour hasn't been to the Regionals/Semi-State since before @Donnie Bakerstarted the Pork Pistols. Coach Goodman was a solid coach with the Owls. I believe it was 1991 when the Owls went to State and lost to Hobart.

I did hear in the Cathedral Post-game Show that New Albany and Cathedral have played 10 times but not since 1933!! They had a home-away from 1923-1933.

I am assuming these guys must have taken a train back then? Would love a historian to fetch that series data from the archives.

Indeed, his "give a crap" was broke a long time ago.  He had that same attitude in high school.  To this day (20 years now), I haven't personally seen a high school athlete that could do what he could do on both sides of the ball.  Anymore, most these guys don't even play both sides, even in little schools like us.  He was ridiculous at baseball as well.

I am trying to think of some others that were similar to Cutler on both sides of the ball.

First one that pops to mind that I personally watched is James Banks (Ben Davis). Was a dangerous QB (passing and running) also was a ballhawk safety. What about possibly Jack Kiser?

Unless Zionsville/Michigan City scores 21+ on Cathedral's starting D, and that's happened once this year against a team that is top 10 nationally whose offense took almost 3 quarters to get going, Cathedral isn't going to lose to anyone unless said QB goes out there and turns the ball over 5-6 times which hasn't come close to happening. Red zone issues has much more to do with pre-snap penalties and conservative/predictable play-calling than it has QB play.

Yes, penalties are one of the things needs to be improved. In no way shape or for will I bash on the QB. I think he has played spectacular. Actually in parts of the season the QB's awareness and escape capabilities have extended plays and covered up with some miscues running the ball.  I wasn't expecting my post to end up turning into bashing the QB as I was talking Offense in general (penalties have been a problem at times on both sides of the ball).  I just think they need to get improve in some areas (nothing more than that they are still solid).

Isn’t the QB only a sophomore?  From what I’ve read he is well beyond where he should be at this age and a pretty good QB.

Yes and a very good one

38 minutes ago, Sports Freak20 said:

Yes, he is....and he is damn good.  These past 2 weeks haven't been his best but he is an absolute work horse and he will right the ship.  But you are right, he is well beyond where he should be at this point IMO.

Absolutely, my post wasn't any knock on the QB. Just stating the Offense needs to get a little better. They have played a couple of tough defenses the last 2 weeks (New Pal and DC) and have struggled at points in the game. Just need to improve and get better.

    29 minutes ago, Footballking16 said:

He's been very good. 2500 yards 28 TD's to just 2 INT's. 62% completion rate on 300+ attempts. Has also run for 8 more scores.

As a sophomore and first year starter, he doesn't need to really be any more than a game manager with the defense behind him, but his played above and beyond expectation this year.

100% has been terrific. The offense as a whole just needs to get better, work on TD's instead of FG. I should clarify no team is playing perfect right now and likely won't play perfect.

I remember watching Cathedral warm up before that 5A state title game against Westfield. Terry McLaurin, Cathedral's all everything player, looked more like a college player than a high school kid while warming up without pads. Westfield had no one that could defend him whether he was playing receiver or tailback. I think he even returned kickoffs and punts. Seeing how well he's done with Washington, he's proven he may be one of the best ever to play there.

He (Terry McLaurin) is definitely up there among one of the Best players from Cathedral. Blaine Bishop would be another one. Been a few good lineman that graduated from there although difficult to compare with skill players.

McLaurin was fun to watch. Ohio State didn't utilize all of his talents (because they had a few talented WR's) and he made no complaints about it, but he certainly is showing his capabilities in the NFL.

Maybe haha.  The other Hart son/brother Derek Hart has Kankakee 13-0 and ranked #2 in Illinois 5A.

Coach Hart on Twitter joked about messing up their mothers thanksgiving plans if they keep winning

True, just saw that Kankakee plays Morton at 3:00pm on Saturday while Gibson Southern will be playing at Tri-West at 4:00pm Saturday. Tough call for John, but he might elect to make the short 20 min drive to Lizton  rather than 2 1/2 hour drive to Kankakee. 😄

Know absolutely NOTHING about Tri-West, other than they took out Danville in Sectionals. What are the Titans getting themselves into? What kind of offensive set does Tri run?

Tri-West / Danville is a big rivalry game the 2 schools are about 13 minutes from each other (about 9-10 miles separates them). They are very familiar with each other. Tri-West use to run a spread/run and shoot style offense and a 3-4 defense. I am not sure if they still run the same. I think at this point you have to assume all teams left are solid. I have not watched much of Tri-West this year, From what I have heard about the Titans Offense the Bruins will have their hands full.

On a positive note for Titans fans GS Head Coach Nick Hart I am sure will have his father John in attendance as Brownsburg is just a short trip out I-74 from Lizton Indiana.

This game will be held at Tech, such a great historic venue under the lights!

I don't know a lot about New Albany yet, except they pulled off what many consider an upset win vs. Bloomington South last night.  Will make predictions later.

The Irish need to get better offensively. Won't effect this game in particular. They will likely win this game. They have to get better if they want to beat Michigan City or Zionsville come Thanksgiving weekend.  Defense looks good but offense needs to get better. Just an outside prospective

Maxen is having fun, but definitely needs a haircut. We are having a blast watching him.

This thread has definitely taken a turn for the worse.  Game tonight went about like I expected. Dragons went 5 wide. Had some open guys and made a few plays. Defense held their own, but wore down. Had a few injuries tonight, including QB knocked out for almost the entire second quarter. Hurry up offense for Cathedral was a nice wrinkle. Very young Dragons team that needs to get a little tougher and a lot more focused in the future. It’s back to 4A for NP.

Agreed on all accounts (I have a son close to Mxen's age that needs a hair cut) stay well my friend!

It has nothing to do with a single JV game.  My beef was the coach's response flippantly admitting non-compliance with a rule (that effects BOTH friday and sat night's game) and fans that want to brush both the event and the coach's unfortunate response on GID under the rug.  Had the coach said  nothing, or stated it was an honest mistake, not a biggie.  But he admitted to breaking rules with a smug response.  It is wrong and there is no 2 ways about it.

I don't have anything to prepare for....I will say this again....I am not affiliated with GGHS sports, no kid involved, etc.

The CG fan that started the thread was NOT wrong.  The playing of excessive quarters occurred, a Cathedral coach admitted it and stated his distaste for the rule...

Word to the jack-o-lantern world IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH FRIDAY NIGHT. I don't know how elde to spell it out! Special Teams no matter what part doesn't count towards anything. Yiu can keep spouting but IT DOES NOT MATTER! Why do you keep bringing up a Friday night game. Let alone a Saturday JV game in the last week of the season?! I know you have an agenda but jeeze whiz give it a rest, you sound so incompentent it's not even funny (coming from someone that was a parent of a son that played in the Mid-State Conference) just give it a rest.
