    The play i

That is not the play that is in question about a no call on the right tackle vs the LB.  It was on the 4 and 10 that cathedral converted right before this play.

I just went by the comment in the post that stated: "the extremely blatant missed foul call on the obvious tackle by the Cathedral RT from behind on the LB who beat him around the edge on the deciding TD". I provided the deciding TD. Here is the 4th down play though.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could figure out a way to make those regular season games between two 3-3 teams really exciting and meaningful by raising the stakes for which they are played? Oh, wait …

I agree it would be great to make these games really exciting. That being said in reality the reason why States like Ohio and Texas have a qualify tournament isn't really to make football better and more exciting although that is the bi-product of having the qualify. The true reason these states have a qualifying format playoff instead of a post season tournament is because the have so many schools playing football they have to have a qualifying format. In all honesty Indiana with 330 football playing schools that is a lower number that can do an all in format. Ohio and Texas don't have that luxury. While I personally think a Qualifying playoff format would be great I think anyone would have a difficult time getting the IHSAA to do that.

After seeing and twice rewinding the extremely blatant missed foul call on the obvious tackle by the Cathedral RT from behind on the LB who beat him around the edge on the deciding TD, I turned it off. After the obnoxious tutu qb imaginary foul on Chris Jones of the KC Chiefs to begin the week and then seeing this, causing me to further lose faith in the future of American Tackle football. The game has degraded so much into 7 on 7 by rules and enforcement of rules. Football has devolved the opposite direction from the Jack Tatum style era. I have watched less of it this year than I have since my elementary days. And when I have watched, I have too often become disillusioned and turned it off.

I don’t suppose you could post that video. We all like extremely blatant missed foul calls.

Here is the go ahead score by Cathedral. Please tell me where the obvious tackle by the Cathedral RT is. The RT is #76 (Note I saw no CG player tackled to the ground by an Offensive Lineman.

Demoralizing?? Lol. The Trojans will be just fine.  Coach Moore and his staff will use the extra week to get them ready. They will learn from it.

Sometimes, you just tip your hat to the other team and just go lace ‘em up again.

Yeah I don't buy into the demoralizing. Coach Moore is a fantastic coach. I personally feel this is a great tool for Coach Moore. The players feel the sting and he will have them pumped and ready to go. It wasn't a loss to a lesser team. It was a loss to a good team and Coach Moore will use it as motivation to get better in every aspect,

I was going off what CG posted on Digital Scout. Cathedral Irish at Center Grove Trojans Football | 10/14/2022 7:00:00 PM | Digital Scout live sports scores and stats

Whatever, 351 or 410 they still have a big play pass defense problem that they have been having all year.

They may not have accounted for the final TD yardage 60 yards. While it may look to be a run sometimes it is actually a pass play (shovel pass). I would bet the digital scout is likely 60 yards more rushing and 60 less passing because of that one play. I wasn't trying to discredit your post.

Not disagreeing, but got to give Cathedral tons of credit. Their pitching and catching combination is pretty darn special.

Not just 1 catching weapon either. I honestly thought CG found made adjustments and did a good job 2nd and 3rd qtr. It looked as though when CG made their adjustment Cathedral eventually made some adjustments to find holes. Still there were many plays even though it was a reception by the Irish the Trojans had a player with a hand on the ball or were right there so they were contested receptions. It wasn't a blown coverage wide open receiver.

    O'Neil is a special talent.

He definitely is, it is hard to believe he is only a Junior. He will likely shatter all QB records at Cathedral when he is done playing (He has already overtaken them).

That being said last year you told me about Cherry at QB for CG, he looks to be a very solid QB for the Trojans. You said he would be solid and he definitely looks good to me.

4th game this year CG has given up more than 320 passing yards. They came out with the win in the previous 3 games but not this one. CG will likely have 3 weeks to figure something out. CG Opponent passing yds. Lost: 351 Cathedral - Won: 273 Warren Central, 324 Carmel, 326 BD, 348 LC, 245 LN

It was actually 410 yds not 351. CG definitely did some things that were working 2nd and 3rd qtr. Even quite a few of the big pass plays in the 4th qtr there was at least a defender with their hand on the ball or right there.

This game will be on WHMB, Channel 40 in Indy.  I believe you can see a live stream at game time, and there will be a replay on TV at 10PM.  Also, the game will be broadcast on 1260AM in Indy, and they can be found on I-Heart radio for those out of the Indianapolis area.

IMO, the trick plays will stay in the bag during this game, in preparation for a possible rematch in the semi-state.  Of course, the Irish have a tough road just to get to the semi-state.

Just want to clear up for anyone wanting to watch this. The game will be on WHMB TV40 but it will not be live streamed on their website (I am assuming because Center Grove will be live streaming Pay Per View so WHMB can't live stream). It will be on the tape delay at 10pm on WHMB TV40. You can watch live only by paying for the Center Grove live stream on IHSAATV.org or listen on the radio on 1260AM or I-Heart Radio FoxSports1260.

It would have indeed been a big game!  Too bad we didn't have a playoff system back then.

My Father still talks about the 1968 game he attended 8-0-1 Indianapolis Cathedral @ 9-0 Indianapolis Washington. Where Cathedral won 20-7. He told me George McGinnis and Steve Downing weren't only great basketball players but pretty darn good football players too.

Our crew had the 7-0 game at CG (2016).

Up until that time, the best HS contest we ever had....  Great Atmosphere!   Bad sight lines for fans I suspect with the 'old' CG stadium configuration.

It was a great game! It was very close to seeing a rematch in Semi-State too. Cathedral lost a close 2 OT Regional game at Avon 37-34. Then after Avon won that 2 OT game against Cathedral, they lost at CG in 2 OT 35-34. Some great football games that year for sure.

Appreciate you putting out this bracket.....to me, the most intriguing first round games include:

    • Carroll vs Penn
    • Elkhart vs Warsaw
    • Homestead vs HSE
    • Westfield vs Carmel
    • Brownsburg vs Ben Davis (a slobberknocker for sure)
    • CG vs FC.  (FC has improved and the Coach West and Coach Moore history)

Brownsburg vs Ben Davis is definitely a brutal first round draw. Tough break for Coach West getting CG in first game, they are improved maybe not to CG's level but still improved. Not an easy day for the Spartans drawing The Royals for first game!

Still one of the most impressive records to me! 6 of those 10 losses came over 2 seasons as they were in kind of rebuilding after losing an outstanding group of players that had only 2 losses in their 4 years. Coach Ralph is definitely great at what he does in the weight room, on the practice field, in the game planning, etc.

I get it. Enrollment, geography, randomization... I get it. I am still wondering though how Roncalli and Shortridge are going to be allowed on the same playing field in two weeks.

The predictor has Roncalli as a 78.5 point favorite without homefield advantage (game is at Shortridge).

I have always been fascinated by blowouts, especially in high school football, and I am sure many of you are too. I would love to hear feedback on this topic.

Back in @PHJIrishday a Roncalli (formerly Sacred Heart) and Shortridge game would have been a decent matchup!

I was at the Cathedral/Brownsburg game and a couple things stood out.  Brownsburg dominated on special teams, blocking kicks and getting big returns. Their defensive line was getting penetration all night, getting some big stops that their special teams turned into short fields.

Cathedral seems to have cleaned up their special teams and their offensive line seems to have gotten better, but hard to really tell against recent opposition.  But another thing the Brownsburg game showed was that Danny O’Neil can throw on the run, and he’s got some good targets to hit.  Cathedral put points on the board against Brownsburg even with O’Neil scrambling for his life all game.

I don’t know who wins, but I don’t think this will be a defensive struggle like the past couple meetings.  I can see both teams putting up 30+ points.

Both teams seem to have improved from the start of the season....Cathedral can definitely put up some offense.  I like the Irish 42-35.

This game has always been strange. Years when I think it is going to be a defensive struggle it ends up being 44-38 or 44-41. Years where I think it will be an offensive shootout it ends up being 7-0, 14-9, or 17-13. It has always been strange. Both teams have always gone all out too and didn't hold much back like others would think because it is the last game prior to the tournament.

Your opinion is that, currently, those are the top two teams in the state?

    Roncalli 17, Chatard 14

    Cathedral 38, Chatard 0

I think you could make a case for New Pal, but not Roncalli. I'll defer to what some of the Indy area guys have to say if they want to chime in.

Both could be competitive with 6A top teams. I wouldn't say either are the definite best team in the State regardless of class. I would say they are among the best teams in the State. A list that includes Brownsburg, Center Grove, Cathedral, New Pal, and Roncalli.

Right now New Pal's most significant win was against a good Westfield team (Rock's aren't as good as the last 2 years but they are still a solid team). Decatur Central is not very good this year and Mount Vernon is down from last year. New Pal definitely has beefed up their schedule the last few years with non-conference games, nobody expected Decatur Central to be 3-5 and nothing in New Pal's control. They still could compete with any of the top teams in the State no doubt.

Roncalli has a solid win over Louisville Male who is good but not great (even though they beat Trinity they are 4-3). They did lose a close one to a good but not great Elder team. Roncalli is a little 1 dimensional but very good at that dimension.

I would put New Pal at #4 or #5 in the State and Roncalli at #6 or #7. I think CalPreps has New Pal at #5 and Roncalli at #7.

According to MaxPreps Tibbs is listed as 17th in class 6a in receiving yards with 281 yards. Ben Davis has 2 receivers in top 10 at 3rd and 8th. Heck Center Grove receiver Is 2nd and has more yards than Tibbs and Wooten combined. Tibbs will need a heck of a second half of the season and a deep run in the state tournament to get into the Mr. football running (IMO)

Tibbs has played 1 less game (4 games) and Wooten has played 2 less (3 games). Cathedral has really spread the ball around between their WR's and TE's They have 2 WR's (Ayers and Tibbs) and 2 TE's (Wooten and Meeks) that they spread it around pretty well between. There is a reason their QB through 5 games has only thrown 1 INT (that 1 INT was from a pass that he was hit from behind as he was throwing). He is very accurate and doesn't take unnecessary risk finding any open receiver.

I remember years ago when Cathedral had scheduling problems when the other Indy Catholic schools would not play them, and they had problems finding local schools to play, and had to resort to playing more of a statewide and out of state schedule.  Is that a problem today with Chatard and Brebeuf on the schedule?

Chatard hasn't come off of Cathedral's regular season schedule since at least 1989. (Cathedral leads series 29-19)

Brebeuf and Cathedral have played each other 21 times since 1971 (Cathedral leads series 17-4).

Cathedral and Ritter haven't played each other since 2003. Cathedral and Scecina haven't played each other since 1984. Cathedral and Roncalli haven't played each other in the regular season since 2010, but they have met in the tournament 4 times after that. I believe I read an artical last year that Cathedral and Roncalli will resume playing in the regular season in 2023 or 2024. Most of the scheduling issues for Cathedral are because while they are independent it is tough to schedule Indiana opponents weeks 3-7 because they are in conference play.

Whiteland's school district wraps around Greenwood's and includes all of the unincorporated land east of Greenwood in Johnson County. It actually borders Marion County for more miles than Center Grove does.

"Indianapolis" schools are those in Marion County.

"Indianapolis-area" schools are those in Marion County and the eight donut counties (and I'd add Pendleton Heights into that, too), as the donut counties - *especially* the ones that border Marion County that are largely bedroom communities (Plainfield, Avon, Brownsburg, Zionsville, Carmel, HSE/Fishers, Mt. Vernon, New Pal, Whiteland, Greenwood, Center Grove ... and to a lesser degree, Triton Central, although Shelby County has basically forbade residential development outside of Shelbyville, thus keeping TC a small, largely rural school).

I don't see any of the donut county schools listed as Indianapolis Area schools here: https://www.greatschools.org/indiana/indianapolis/schools/?gradeLevels[]=h

Whiteland's school district borders Marion County. It's not an "Indy school," but it is definitely suburban Indianapolis, as much as Brownsburg, Center Grove and Hamilton Southeastern.

Greenwood school district borders Marion County on the north side of Johnson County. Whiteland is south of Greenwood.

I consider any school within Marion County a Indianapolis area school. My list of schools playing football: Arsenal Tech, Crispus Attucks, Washington, Shortridge, Beech Grove, Decatur Central, Franklin Central, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, Perry Meridian, Southport, Pike, Speedway, Warren Central, North Central, Ben Davis, Christel House Manual, Tindley, Bishop Chatard, Brebeuf Jesuit, Cardinal Ritter, Cathedral, Covenant Christian, Heritage Christian, Lutheran, Park Tudor, Roncalli, Scecina Memorial, Indiana Deaf, and Purdue Polytechnic

Whiteland is much closer to Indy than those schools are to Fort Wayne.

I have Whiteland at 16 miles from Indy and Bellmont 22 miles from Fort Wayne about a 6 miles difference. I still don't consider Whiteland an Indianapolis area school just like I wouldn't consider Martinsville, Franklin, or Shelbyville Indy area schools.
