without Coyle there would be no center Grove state championship this year. Heck they probably lose first game of sectionals. I am not saying he should have won the position award but he definitely had a great year and key to CG state championship.

He did have a great year and is a great kid. I however feel many might have had the same sentiments about Wheat before he was lost for the season. Thomeson did just fine for CG also. I just feel Hansen had a better season even in their loss to East Central in OT by a FG Hansen had a heck of a game.

    Who did Roncalli piss off?

Pretty unbelievable. Don't get me wrong Micah Coyle is a terrific RB and young man, but wow!

#20 Lakewood (OH) St. Edward defeats Springfield, 28-14, to win the Ohio Div. 1 title. That gives the Eagles rings for 2010, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2021 and 2022. If there was any doubt before, it’s now clear that the mighty, mighty Eagles have surpassed St. X, Elder, St. Ignatius, Moeller, and the rest as Ohio’s premier program. As always, it’s a great day to be an Eagle!

Only 4 more to go to surpass the number of State Championships Moeller has and 6 more to surpass St. Ignatius.

Does Oldenburg even play football? Not on Harrells and only played like 6 games in 2021. All the struggling P/Ps seemed to have dropped or went 8 man (Rock Creek).

They do not anymore, but did field a football team. I was making a basic point with that. Oldenburg was low on the enrollment of 1A and Adams Central towards the top of enrollment. By the statement made their enrollment should be more because of their advantages.

1.) I would argue that at the lowest levels, (1A-3A) all that has happened is different P/P schools take turns having the advantages.  They yo-yo up and down so often there is always a a p/p school there to take up the advantages in population that P/P's afford over smaller public schools.  Not the best example of "addressing" the situation.

IMHO: There should not be a P/P competing in the 1A tournament.

I would argue that a one class "bump" for P/P's, combined with SF for all (public & P/P) with a longer SF adjustment (every 4 instead of every 2) would be a great system.

    Since the Success Factor (2012)

1A there has been 6 P/P State Champions and 5 Public State Champions

1A there has been 8 P/P teams in the State Finals and 14 Public teams in the State Finals

2A there has been 5 P/P State Champions 6 Public State Champions

2A there has been 10 P/P teams in the State Finals and 12 Public teams in the State Finals

As for the there should not be a P/P competing in the 1 A tournament. I would put Adams Central against Oldenburg Academy any day and over the last 10 years would bet Oldenburg would be fortunate to score points. The problem is there is a skewed view looking at the successful P/P but there are P/P that don't share that same success.

How did Cathedral all of a sudden turn into a basketball power? It seems to have happened over night.

They didn't just all of a sudden turn into a basketball power. They have had good teams dating back into the early 90's they were over shadowed by great Ben Davis, Pike, Lawrence North, and North Central teams. They had a good team in 2022 and won state and return some very good players this year. They also brought in a really good Coach in Delaney who I think is in his 6th or 7th year

Appreciate your thoughtful response. I have been exposed to both worlds myself but I contend that the MOST lazy approach is pretend enrollment alone works and 9 times out of 10 it's all about student population homogeneity.  It drives the disparity nationwide.  Half the states in the union like multipliers and I am starting to lean that way...punitive, "reactive" systems seem barbaric to me....let's be proactive and get out in front of the disparity.

This does not matter. Mutiplier's do nothing but try to address a couple of teams because they had success,  while punishing some others.

Prime example how much more success has Gibson Southern had compared to Hammond Noll. Hammond Noll has won a grand total of like 3 games over the last 10 years. It is easy to just say "Slap a multiplier" and turn your head.

Success Factor is a much better idea. The current success factor is flawed because it looks at 2 years only.

Whenever I look at our student population, we have some kids in special needs classes that do count towards our enrollment that could never be included in a pool of students involved in extra curriculars. 1.)When I pulled up Mater Dei and Providence's faculty members, they do not seem to have a special education department. I think this sir is what you are eluding to. I've coached kids that have had to quit playing football and other sports because they have had to work to help support their family. Probably not a common thing at Mater Dei. All enrollments are not equal.

I don't have a big problem with any school recruiting kids for any reason. I just think everyone should be held to the same set of rules if they are competing against each other. 2.)Maybe the IHSAA should set some restrictions on movement such as a student can only have full eligibility for the school they begin the school with, unless there is a physical move

1.) There are Private / Parochial Schools with Special Needs programs. One I can name is Roncalli and their STARS program.

2.) You do realize there are more transfers out of Private/Parochial Schools to public than the other way around. Usually the student that transfers from Private/Parochial to Public gets an immediate sign off by the P/P school and on the flip side the rare occasion a student transfers from a Public to a Private/Parochial school there is no sign off by the Public forcing them to sit out a period of time. There are also a lot more Public to Public transfers especially in Indianapolis and surrounding counties

The article says that all IFCA member head coaches and assistant coaches get a vote.

So "not every coach with a pulse" but only IFCA member coaches.

    Process:

Be a football coach and JOIN IFCA

IFCA will host a ALL STATE meeting, at that meeting, the Rating board for each sectional and any at large coaches will be in the room and go through all the ALL STATE teams.

Top 50 team gets selected, amongst the top 50 will be votes by position groupings:  QB, RB, WR, et. al.

A player then must WIN their individual position award, last year for instance, QB, Brady Allen was the position award winner.   So Allen, then all other 9 position award winners (10 in all). from there, there will be a vote to whittle it down to top 3, last year it was Caden Curry, DL Center Grove, RB, Micah Houser, and QB Brady Allen, with Allen winning the final vote the 3 finalist.  Year before was Steele, Fisher, and QB McCulley.

For reference, see below:  Indy Star is the sponsor of the award

Thank you both. I couldn't read the article but was curious

Thanks for this.  Interesting information.  We have family in Hamilton County and attend Our Lady of Grace.  I was surprised to find out that was the Lafayette Diocese and Guerin was as well.

Also keep in mind Guerin was founded in 2004. So students from many of its feeder schools like: Our Lady of Grace, St Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maria Goretti have attended Brebeuf Jesuit, Chatard, and Cathedral over the years and some still do. Just like prior to Cathedral becoming a Private school they were a Deanery High School in Dowtown Indianapolis (Opened in 1919) long before the 4 current Deanery schools were built (earliest was Scecina built in the 60's) so there are a lot of legacy students that still attend Cathedral following family footsteps.

Thanks.  I thought they were broken down to specific high schools rather than just north/south.

They are split to certain HS as feeder schools. West Deanery would be Cardinal Ritter, East would be Scecina Memorial, South Roncalli, and North Bishop Chatard. You also have long standing and legacy students that will go to the 2 Private Catholic schools Brebeuf Jesuit and Cathedral.

    Here are all the Deanery's

Is it just coincidence that there is very little talent in the IPS? In Indianapolis you go from one extreme to the other. The privates and suburban schools are the best of the best of what Indiana has to offer..............and the IPS is the worst. Is the talent pool in the IPS being drained

It is not coincidental that there is very little talent in IPS (with the exception of basketball). The IPS education system has been very bad for several years. There are long standing High Schools that have closed, re-opened, and even been repurposed to middle schools. Howe and Washington have closed re-opened and I think Howe is closed again. Arlington closed has now become a middle school. Northwest has closed and become a middle school. Broad Ripple has closed. It has been a mess.

The talent pool from IPS has been drained, but it has been getting drained for YEARS dating back to busing to Township schools (Ben Davis, Warren Central, etc). It isn't just a recent thing it has been going on dating back to the late 80's early 90's.

You and I seem to be of a mind on this.

I am hopeful that East Central, being the survivor of the EC, New Pal and Roncalli Texas Death Match may be able to set things to right again in 5A in 2024.

I can’t believe how much I miss those quality days of Columbus East, Cathedral and New Pal owning that class and being Top 10 Teams  overall.

Oh…and of course Merrillville with its greatest class ever….

Are you talking about this class?

And yet he still put up 350 yards and 5 TDs that game vs Luers.

The truth is the MD game is why people don’t think he’s Mr. Football. Yeah he didn’t play his best game, obviously. Don’t think you can take the award away  on one game alone. To me he was the best player in the state this year. You can say I’m biased as an alum but I think I can remove myself enough to give an objective opinion. Bowen was the definition of “Put the Team on Your Back” this year. Hansen was great and if he won I wouldn’t even be mad but to me Bowen deserves it for what he did this year.

I am curious with this statement. Do you not think Hansen was a "Put the Team on Your Back" guy? Heck I remember posts on here asking if Roncalli was even going to pass. I will have to go take a look, but I think Roncalli attempted around 180 passes and 600 plus rushes and 400 plus of those carries were Hansen.

I stated Luke Hansen made his case for Mr. Football and supported that with the stats to back that up. Not too shabby for a 6' 205 lbs kid that is not going to Notre Dame. Yes he had a good Offensive Line (I don't get what the point of that statement is when it comes to Mr. Football) its not like he was untouched because he had a good O-line (if you have watched him play he broke many many tackles). He just so happened to play defense too and didn't do too bad at that. Tote the ball 30 times a game and play defense he definitely made his case.
