Power went out?  I was there and there was power.  Half the lights wouldn't come on.  It wasn't a utilities issue; it was a facilities issue.  That was my first time back at Arlington since losing in 2007.  Many fond memories there from the 90's and early 2000's, but boy has that facility gotten rough.  I'm sure the grass is great.  I was shocked at the condition of everything else.  The school building itself looks like all the renovation money spent before it was shut down was well spent, but from peeling paint covering the home stands to cracked up concrete to half functioning restrooms, the prison yard comment wasn't far off.

Also, I never understood the gripes on here about parking at Arlington until being back last night.  With the new addition to the front of the school and half the facility being used to store broken down IPS vehicles, they don't do Cathedral any favors.  I'm sure this has been brought up and I've missed it elsewhere, but why does Cathedral stick with Arlington? Tech seemed like a great solution.  Both Lawrence schools are close.  Maybe this is sacrilegious to suggest, but why not use Chatard's facility when they are on the road?  No matter the on field record in the rivalry, both schools are better off when the relationship is in good standing.

Last I heard Arsenal Tech was playing their games at University of Indianapolis. Which makes Tech not an option. I would assume it comes down to cost, perhaps these other schools were wanting too much money (compared to in the past) or they just weren't willing to allow them to rent it out. The actual playing surface at Arlington wasn't in any type of playing shape, Cathedral paid for it to be resurfaced and cared for.

GREAT point...now that I think about it, it does sort of seem like the IHSAA is unfairly falling on the sword here when Indian Creek should be on the witness stand.

I get what you are inferring. Not necessarily though considering they have the ability to overrule IC not signing off on the transfer. Regardless if IC doesn't sign off the IHSAA makes the decision on if the kid is eligible or ineligible so they don't really fall on the sword but jump to wherever they place the sword.

Maybe Cathedral would be able to install wifi or build their own stadium if they weren’t paying all of that money to drive 15 busses all over Indiana to pick up “student athletes” every day. (I’m kidding. It’s only 8 buses). I’m just playing around here. We all know it is because of the NIL money they are paying. (Again, kidding)

All kidding aside. I don't understand why wifi or televising would be an issue. Heck there was a 1995 great Sectional Championship game between (10-0) Avon and (6-4) Cathedral (Avon won 14-7 in OT) televised at Arlington. If they could televise the games in the early 90's from Arlington, why wouldn't they be able to in 2023?

Man, they sure are all about “screwing kids frequently.”

    ”Well documented.”

    🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I 100% agree they are not about "screwing kids frequently". I just can't wrap my head around why out of the 10 kids deemed ineligible this one they have stood their ground on ruling ineligible. I can't think of something worse that this student could have done than his minor younger sister receiving inappropriate text messages from an adult (even getting a restraining order as directed by the school to ensure this Coach was not around). Leading directly to both of them transferring from IC to Greenwood (not athletic reasons). Granted IC has taken proper steps to fire said coach, but what could be so terrible that 1.) IC refused to sign off on the kid transferring (I have read they said any school but Greenwood which baffles me if true) 2.) why the IHSAA deemed them ineligible with the surrounding circumstances (which are not athletic purposes). Am I missing something? Can it be made to make sense? Obviously something has to be missing.

I was going to say if there ever was a transfer they should allow, this would be the one.  It always smells a little vindictive when ADs don't sign off on these.

I felt the same way after reading the article. After sifting through all the weeds of extra stuff. The one thing that stumped me was 1.) why not sign off from the AD 2.) The By-Laws of IHSAA this should be one transfer that should have been allowed with the surrounding circumstances.

OK, now that you mention it I do vaguely remember hearing about a Arlington HS back in the day.  When it changed to JH I was already out of state.  Interesting...  Nice to see a larger school still using natural grass.

    Yes

Arlington's best season ever was 1999 in 5A Regionals they led Ben Davis 15-13 until Ben David kicked a last second long field goal to win the game 16-15. Ben Davis went on to beat Bloomington South 38-0 in Semi-State and Penn 27-3 in the State Finals.

OK, so what's up with all these high school teams - some of them larger schools - playing games at a jr. high venue?  I don't live in Indiana anymore, and keep seeing this "at Arlington MS".

Do they have a kickin' new stadium that's better than the high schools?  Is there a push for neutral site regular season games (IIRC most of these are Indy-area teams)?  Are these high schools all having work done at their stadiums concurrently?

What gives?  As the guy in the Dirty Harry movie said, "I gots to know!"

Arlington High School closed in 2018 (along with Broad Ripple and Northwest). The IPS school board decided Arlington would reopen as Arlington Middle School for the 2018-2019 school year. So Arlington Middle School field was actually a High School field that is now known as Arlington Middle School Field. Both Cathedral and Chatard used it as their homefield in the early 90's as well as Broad Ripple's football field. The field is natural grass and since Cathedral got an agreement from Arlington to use it Cathedral has paid for the Natural Grass to be resurfaced and cared for. Yes with excessive rain (hence the photo up above) it does get muddy, but it is actually in better condition than it ever was while Arlington High School was still operating.

The Eagles will be severely tested this week at The Pit against Elder, and the following week against Massillon Washington.

In a sense they will be tested because it is at "The Pit" and travel. I think Elder will struggle to sustain long drives, and St. Ed's will keep ball control. Elder did give up 39 points to Pickerington North and I think the Eagles are a much better team than Pick North. You are correct though heading to "The Pit" is no easy task.

    Oops.  Good call.

Where IS Moeller in Ohio in your opinion?

Currently they are ranked 9th in Region 4. They haven't played any Ohio opponents yet. I think right now they may sit anywhere from 4th to 6th in Region 4. Region 4 isn't as strong as it use to be. Right now St. Edwards in Region 1 is head and shoulders above everyone.

Let’s have some fun with this…

BD hosts IMG Friday whereas CG hosts Moeller.

Moeller will be a good way to compare the two (and they’ll soon be 0-3 against Indiana schools).

Let’s see how this plays out.  I don’t expect BD to win but we will have another data point late Friday night.

Moeller will be 1-3 against Indiana teams after this week. Losses to Ben Davis and East Central, and a win against F.W. Dwenger. Moeller was highly ranked  coming into the season based on last years results. Springfield is probably the second best team in Ohio Div 1 but won't have much for St. Edwards. St. X might be the top team from the GCL South.

Brownsburg was very impressive. Very good RB and B10 receiver and QB throws a nice ball. I think their defense needs a lot of work if they want to hang with the CG's and Ben Davis' of the world but they have some firepower.

Agreed and some work on the O-line staying consistent. The impressive thing was QB play. I knew they would have the RB and WR's but didn't know what they had at QB with the graduation of last years QB.

Back and forth for the first quarter and a half. Some pretty poor game management and bad execution gave Brownsburg the lead at halftime and then they exerted their will on Cathedral in second half. I think depth is going to be a major concern for Cathedral the rest of this year and magnified even more playing in 6A.

I feel Brownsburg exerted their will in the 3rd qtr. Brownsburg too full advantage of opportunities in the 3rd. The Irish Offense went away from being balanced leaving their defense on the field and they were very gassed (2 play with INT, 3 and out, 3 and out until about 1 minute left in the 3rd). The 3rd qtr is an area they Irish need to improve on. They will improve as they get game experience.

As for Brownsburg I think they have some work to do in Secondary and on O-line. but they looked very solid.

  13. While a loss is never fun, last weeks game was a positive for Cathedral. The Lafayette Jefferson game did not really show where they stand (starters never played after halftime). Last week against Brownsburg they got to get a good look an all areas of the team. Yes they had some bad moments, but that also leads to coachable things from film to improve. I saw nothing in the game against Brownsburg that couldn't be fixed, having it on film is definitely what they needed. Typically I like to see how teams improve from week 1 to week 2 when they have got something on film and can get to work on coaching. For me that is this week for Cathedral how will they improve from week 2 to week 3.

Brownsburg was a very good football team. Lafayette Jefferson was in more of a rebuild and not having their starting QB and RB made it even worse. Penn will be a much better team than Lafayette Jefferson was. I personally feel you will see improvements in areas the Irish struggled in last week Offensively and Defensively. Ultimately regardless of the rankings or wins and losses the main goal is to be better come Tournament time. This will be a good little stretch for the Irish with Penn, Chatard, Frederick Douglas, and Lasalle in 4 of the next 5 games.

    I can - 2019.  Chatard won 53-7.

    I expect a close game.

This Chatard team looks more like a classic Lorenzano team than any since his retirement….probably not quite as big as some of his lines, though.  Not as much passing, yet, as a typical Doyle team but a shifty, scrambling first year starter QB.  I anticipate they’ll pass more as the season goes on.

    Should be an enjoyable game.

They have a coach who has a good winning track record and is in his third season. They have a massive offensive and defensive line. Reloading at the skill positions is pretty much an expectation at Warren. Even people from Indy were expecting a big year out of this team. It's too early to hit the panic button. They are 0-2 against two teams that might be Top 10 statewide

Carroll and Snider might be top 10 by seasons end. Warren will be 1-2 after this week as they will beat North Central.

Judging from their play I see WC being at best 4-5 but will likely be 2-7 or 3-6. They will struggle with Lawrence Central and Lawrence North. They will get beat by Ben Davis, Carmel, and Christian Brothers (MO). The 2 wins I do see are Pike and North Central. That in no way is talking bad about Snider or Carroll.

Warren Central should be in top 20 ! Don't see many of the teans in bottom half beating them !

Calpreps has Warren Central listed at #31 in Indiana. I tend to agree with Calpreps. They have an easy one next week against North Central to get them in the win column. Then they will struggle with Lawrence Central and Ben Davis. I could see Warren Central going 2-7 or 3-6 come seasons end. I think best case for WC is to go 4-5 in regular season.

Very quality win for the Trojans last night over an outstanding opponent and Tennessee's best.  Next week Trinity, followed by Moeller.  The LC game later this season will be another doozy.

Did I read the scores correctly...Carmel got double nickels dropped on them??  They played an outstanding opponent, but wow....such a shame.....😉

Yes Christian Brothers (St. Louis MO) 55 Carmel 28. It wasn't much of a shock. Christian Brothers played Chatard last year and won 55-24 and then played Warren Central and won 52-25. They are a very good football team.

Was a little perplexed on the end of the half game management. Cathedral up 17-14  with a little over 3 minutes left finally got a defensive stop and then had the quickest 3 and out deep in their own territory. Positive plays on 1st and 2nd and then they rush to the line on 3rd and 2 and throw a 40 yard go route. Didn’t understand that. Brownsburg went down and scored and never looked back.

I noticed as well. Don't get me wrong QB1 for the Irish is very good and he will develop with his green WR's as the season goes along. Just in my opinion (take it for what it is worth as I am no guru) if the Irish get more balanced their offense will be very dangerous as those WR's come along with the QB. I feel #22 looks to be a very solid RB and just didn't understand why it seemed they completely abandoned running the ball with him. He did show some flashes in the 4th qtr. A couple of those 4th qtr drives are where the Irish offense could be. It is early in the season and they will get better. Honestly both teams will.

For right now I think BD and CG are at 1 and 2. Then Brownsburg at 3 once they shore up and improve in the secondary will be in discussion with 1 and 2. HSE, Cathedral, Lawrence Central, and Westfield throw them in a blender and whomever pops out is at 4, and I could toss Fishers in there I just need to see them against a team other than North Central or Pike. The Potential is there for the Irish, but they have some work to do, and they will get some tests on their schedule to keep checking where they stand as they improve.

I can definitely agree with this poll. Right now Ben Davis and Center Grove look solid. Minus some hiccups in the secondary for Brownsburg they aren't far off. 4-7 (HSE, Cathedral, Westfield, and Lawrence Central) throw them in a blender and whomever pops out can be number 4. I think Fishers can be in that mix too, but I need to see them against better competition to get a better judgement than North central and Pike. It will be interesting to see how they all look by week 9 and start of the playoffs.

Glad you have East Central up there, as they are rolling right now. Big game coming up at home for them against Moeller, then they have a pretty easy schedule until week 9.

    Center Grove 28

    Oakland 10

    Final

Oakland was #31 in the nation and had won 4 of the last 5 big school state championships in Tennessee.  Oakland's head coach was 111-7 entering tonight's game.

Nice bounce back win for the Trojans. Calpreps had Oakland (TN) at #248 in the nation. Oakland is definitely the top Public school in TN. Center Grove dominated them. There have been some that were down on CG after the St. Edward's loss with the exception of those like @Bobref who know how good the Eagles are. Calpreps has St. Ed's at #20 in the Nation and climbing for a reason. No shame in losing that and the Trojans definitely got a lot of things on film to work on early in the season.

I said it in another post the Trojans can go 4-1 in this 5 game stretch and at worst 3-2 which is impressive. I feel they will beat Moeller and Harvest Prep, the Trinity game is a toss up game that I favor Center Grove since it is a CG home game. The Trojans will be just fine and are definitely a 6A top 2 team (Both Ben Davis and Center Grove are very good).

Game was pretty even thru halftime now it is mis-match.  Irish have some big issues to address after this game or it might be a long season.

Both Brownsburg and Cathedral have work to do in the secondary on defense. The Irish need to get back to some fundamentals on tackle first then strip, many missed tackles trying to strip the ball. Offensively the Bulldogs need more consistency along the O-line they had some struggles there at times. The Irish need to be more balanced to help out their defense while they are learning. At one point they abandoned the run completely, I think their RB had 5 carries in the first half and he looks to be pretty solid. Becoming balanced will help O'Neil too.

    8 hours ago, Footballking16 said:

    Pretty disappointing.

Thoroughly out-coached and out-classed. Gave up a million yards and committed a million more penalties. Way to one-dimensional offensively. They’ll get better.

Agreed on the one-dimensional offense. Not sure why the run was abandoned because the RB was doing okay, had like 5 carries in the first half and was getting 3 yards a pop. The 3rd quarter was brutal. The Irish defense which wasn't playing great but not terrible (in the first half aside from the secondary) could have used some help in the 3rd. Up until the last 1-2 min of the 3rd qtr the Irish offense went: series 1 2 plays (Interception on a bad decision of throwing the ball away from the back foot) Series 2 3 and out, series 3 3 and out. Defense was on the field for almost 10 minutes. Both teams have plenty to work on and get better (especially on the secondary).

    7 hours ago, PHJIrish said:

It was almost a carbon copy of last year at Brownsburg.  You just can't give breaks to a good team like Brownsburg.  A lot of penalties, dropped passes and missed open receivers ain't gonna win a lot of games.  Brownsburg is going to be tough to beat this season, but I hope the Irish get another shot at them in late October or early November!

BTW, the weather wasn't all that bad.  It was quite comfortable after the sun went down.

I think Brownsburg is very good but needs work on the secondary. Cathedral can be very good also needs work on defense and becoming more balanced. Right now I don't feel either are quite to the level of Ben Davis or Center Grove. They can be though with improvement through the season, it is a marathon not a sprint.
