Good point.  MIC has always been a ground oriented conference.  Pike had a nice passing game some years back when Dominique Booth was there.  Id like to see a real passing guru come into the conference and see what he could do with the Lawrence schools or with Pike.

Chris Coll, Mike Gillin, Shane Fry, are amongst a few who could push MIC defenses with an all out air attack.

MIC coaches historically have not been adept at developing pro style quarterbacks.  I think that will change in the near future as the next group of up and comers have been trained under the new wide open philosophy.

Great coaches adapt to their player personnel. While Coach Gillin and Coach Coll do like to throw the pigskin around, they are also smart enough coaches to adjust to what their players are best suited for. By that I mean if they have big strong O-lines and a good RB they will run the ball more. If they are better suited for throwing the ball they will throw the ball more. If they have both they will stay very balanced.

Looking at this years stats Mooresville is pretty balanced and Franklin while balanced teeters a little more on running the ball.

Mooresville Rushing 1,465 yds 218.1 YPG

Mooresville Passing 1,198 yds  149.8 YPG

Franklin Rushing 2,134 yds 266.8 YPG

Franklin Passing 1,381 Yds  172.6 YPG

Same can be said about New Pal. Much better team.
Actually, same can probably be said for majority of teams

I get what you are stating, but I don't know if I would say a majority of teams. I see a few that seem to be backsliding. I also see a few that are not backsliding and not improving. It has definitely been a interesting year in 6A. Of course that will make it that much more fun come playoffs.

What I think is interesting about the Cathedral vs Center Grove match-up every year is how it usually plays out. A couple of years I have seen comments where people thought both teams would be conservative being the last game of the season heading into the tournament. Usually it is the exact opposite, both teams lay it all out on the line. Should be a good game between two great programs.

Ultimately, I think the final 4 will be what you just said. Harrison out of West Lafayette looks like they might be able to give Dwenger a game in regionals. I would be decently surprised if Harrison actually pulled off the upset though. New Pal and Cathedral will meet and the winner will get to state. IMO it would take an absolute miracle for one of them to go down to another team down there.

Valpo could be tested by Mishawaka or possibly Concord but should come out on top.

Sorry I forgot that can’t be the final 4 because Cathedral and NP would play in regional but you get the idea.

I could see the Final 4 being:

North = Valpo vs F.W. Dwenger

South = Cathedral or New Pal vs Bloomington South or Bloomington North

Travel in round 1 most likely leads to travel in another round of the tournament.

In the 6A bracket proposed, the 16/17 matchup of Carroll/LC means a Carroll upset means travel to LC for round 1 and AVON for round 2.

Same bracket:  Franklin Central over Lafayette Jeff (not too far fetched) has the Flashes traveling to Fort Wayne the following weekend.

    Just a couple of examples.

As a fan these things are fun to look at and they pop up this time of year EVERY October as the tournament approaches as people start to compare how "unfair" their potential draw may be.  I just don't get too caught up in them because they'll never happen.

How is your example any different than what can happen in 4A Sectional 23?

East Central could draw to play at Martinsville first round of sectionals and then play at Greenwood or at Mooresville in second round of Sectionals. My point was the travel was what you mentioned in your first post, that already could be a possibility.

I don't see any harm in the original post giving a hypothetical on a seeding. It shows interesting match-ups, really no need to rip into each post on it.

I love the all in format and the blind draw. It has adversely effected the team I root for and I don’t care.

I wouldn't mind seeding sectionals only because it could possibly set up a very good Sectional Championship.

I will give my BEST example of why I 100% love the All In Format.

Mooresville in 2017 Coach Gillin's first year there. They were coming off a 2-9 season in 2016, and were 1-9 headed into the tournament.

They hit the sectional and beat Connersville, but then upset New Castle at New Castle (whom was having a relatively good season in 2017). They ended up losing the Sectional Champ to Greenwood. However I think grabbing those 2 Sectional wins that year was a spring board to what you see now. Last year 8-1 in regular season, sectional Championship, close loss to Marion in Regionals. This year sitting at 5-2 with a 24-21 loss to Decatur Central, and 17-13 loss to Whiteland. Coach Gillin is a great coach and has them rolling, but I feel that 2017 season gave them a push. If there was a qualify format you likely don't see that confidence being built.

Just my 2 cents to agree with Captain!

New Pal's first possession began on the 6 yard line after a 5 yard punt from Shelbyville on the one yard yard line. This was after a near safety on second down, and a probable safety on third down that was somehow marked at the one yard line.  It was brutal to watch last night.

Brutal and not much you can do about it. Just grind through the game, get out of there healthy. Thnk goodness for mandatory running clock after 35 point lead, speeds the game up a bit. On a positive New Pal will have a game at Delta to close out the season prior to playoffs to get fine tuned and primed. Best of luck to the Dragons!

Cathedral vs New Pal is going to be a classic. Cathedral beats Trinity tonight 28-7.

Potential games that will be very interesting if they come to fruition come Tournament time:

    Laf. Jeff vs Homestead

    Avon vs Brownsburg (Rd 2)

    Col East vs Center Grove

    Valparaiso vs F.W. Dwenger

    Cathedral vs New Palestine

    Marion vs Delta

    Mooresville vs East Central

    Chatard vs West Lafayette

Not inferring they were anything special.  Roughly 4A/5A size school that was either 3-1 or 4-1 going into the game.  The game was an absolute route from start to finish.

    Still, though,......the biggest receivers I ever saw......and a D1 QB.

So you're saying they were not Normal? lol In all seriousness congrats to the Trojans!

But a few years ago, NC didn't seem to respond to Rick Streiff, who had been very successful prior at Cathedral.  He went back to Cathedral and excelled again.  I will never forget Streiff many years at ago while coaching NC playing at CG, called 3 consecutive time outs to up/down his players on the field during the game.  That one will stick in the memory bank.

Clearly today, Coach O'Shea is doing a marvelous job....it's clicking....and his resume speaks for itself.

Actually North Central was starting to turn things up while Coach Streiff was there. His first season they went 3-8 and 2nd season 5-7. He then went 6-4 and 7-4. They were gradually getting better. When he left stepped away as Head Coach after 2006 for family reasons NC went 9-4 first year under Coach Haste. Coach Streiff did not Coach in 2007, but did become the Head Coach in 2008 at Cathedral after Coach O'Hara retired.

Cathedral - Tech 2-0 for the Old City Title circa 1963ish.

Potluck - Sounds like you’re emotionally attached?? Every high school recruits no matter the P/P or public designate. This is the reason Roberto Cox and his merry men granted Open Enrollment in the IHSAA 7 years ago. Build a viable program, love some parents, find a rock Star coach, and they will come. In Avon’s case, you might even have some urban sprawl that marries up west side athletes with country farm boys making a perfect storm like Brownsburg. And, did you see Ben Davis’ record this year?? Sometimes a blind squirrel finds an acorn

If you want to pay $15k, Cathedral will take whoever you want to send from the west side. It’s a heck of a sacrifice, but he/she might have a chance cracking one of our extracurricular programs whether athletics or the arts. The competition is real though. We graduate 100% of our undergraduates and have 99% college placement. So, if you are not the 6% of Cathedral graduates that get athletic college scholarships, you might be the 30% that get academic college scholarships. Chances are you won’t get either, but you’ll certainly get a value system, a work ethic, and a diverse student body population that will make your child ready to tackle whatever they are dealt. Call it hegemony like my life coach, Muda69, likes to prognosticate. I prefer to call it sacrifice.

PS. Send Blaze Garcia, Schoef, Conley, or one of your other stud wrestlers our way. We are looking at a 3peat at Cathedral on the wrestling mats too. Just know most of the above grew up in programs outside Avon. How did they get there???

How dare you forget 1 heck of a shin dig I mean tailgate!! I have to give some love to the Irish tailgaters @PHJIrish

In all seriousness the IHSAA has nothing to do with Indiana's Open enrollment IDOE would be the ones to look at for that.

I will continue to make this argument about recruiting until something is done. The only reason open-enrollment exists is so the IHSAA can turn a blind eye to the recruiting that does go on, just like everything else they do not want to deal with. I have witnessed first hand middle school kids being talked to by private schools, and I can assure you it was not about their great academics. I know coaches at the 6A level who have varsity coaches that go to the middle school games to prevent stuff like that from happening.

You do realize many middle school games are on a weeknight like say Thursday. So essentially you are saying instead of a Private Schools coach being at practice preparing his team he has driven all around the city and townships  to recruit players from middle school games. I call BS. Even if they are on Saturday most coaches are doing game film with their players running them through conditioning. Not to mention sometimes the team themselves may be playing on Saturday.

How is what I said an ignorant comment? Other schools use donations from people in their community to fund school items. You guys have the whole state of Indiana to find donations from, you should feel fortunate.

Anyone who seriously thinks a a parent from Evansville, Lawrenceburg, Mishawaka, Angola, etc is going to send their child to a school on East 56th street in Indianapolis and have them commute have to be kidding themselves.

That being said even the school you have listed "Avon" has open enrollment i.e. non-resident enrollment:

     https://www.avon-schools.org/cms/lib/IN01001885/Centricity/Domain/4744/Oriole Blast 3-16-17.pdf

I've trouble understanding why some still make this tired argument a thing still. Back to the game at hand. Best of luck to the Irish tomorrow against the Rocks.

Don't think DC is the team they were last year. They haven't been able to put together a full game on both O and D. I think its going to be up to you guys take them down. I hope spegal and crew rush for 500+ yards and 10+ TDs lol. Cathedral has always thought they're above everyone else. Minor example is how they use more than 50 yards of the field during warm ups while both teams are on the field. Just an example lol. Not trying to start a war here, you just will never catch me rooting for Cathedral. The arrogance of their following on here doesn't help the cause either

I call BS on this post. I have been to plenty of games in my time with Cathedral as well as other games. As a matter of fact I have been to all but maybe 1 of the playoff games between Cathedral and Decatur Central. Not once have I seen them use more than 50 yards of the field during warm-ups while both teams are on the field (no different than any other team). On a side note (off topic) one of the coolest pre-game traditions I have been able to witness was Evansville Reitz. I have sat with and talked with plenty of Cathedral fans and parents as well as other schools they were no more arrogant than any other fan base. Also I highly doubt that 2 message board posters on this website make up the majority of the Irish fan base, especially one that has been called out by a couple Cathedral fans/parents for their BS. I can say that @PHJIrish, @IndplsCathedral_Dad , @IndianaWrestlingGuy1among others are not arrogant and very respectful. I am sure there are plenty of generalizations about Decatur Central based off of a few people and their actions. Fortunately I don't buy into their BS.

Do you really think CG is good this year?  Regardless of record?   The Irish wouldnt have fewer titles they simply wouldnt chose to play such high level of competition during the regular season......For every Elder and Moeller and St X they play. There is a Yorktown, shelbyville and Jeffersonville.  CG is having an uncharacteristically  bad year everyone knows that.....

Wait a minute weren't you the one that was calling out Cathedral players earlier this year? The one who called New Pal a special team (which they are) and stating that Cathedral was not a special team (which they are). Ever make it to the Irish tailgate to meet some of the Irish players parents so they could put a face with the screen name? Funny how things have done a 180 @IndplsCathedral_Dad

Why the hate? Has two really good games vs Center Grove. And great games against Zionsville, Harrison, Michigan City, and Decatur Central. And he has several offers? Don’t understand why people come on here to put a kid down and don’t have their facts straight.

I agree the hate is terrible. Regardless who he has had good games against he is a terrific football player. There is no need to come an put kids down regardless of what school they attend. I am wishing more and more that you would have yelled out the "1906" at the Cathedral Freshman game you attended! The mass laughter would have been pure gold. After looking over this thread yourself and @dmizers3 should just ignore the 2 of the posters. It is obvious they don't share the same sentiment as others on this website that have much respect for the New Pal Dragons. It is kind of sad to seem them stoop lower and lower with each post. There are a few posters I mentioned up above that I think are likely cringing at their comments.
