  1. State Champions in a class that was probably better than 4A last year... It's not hard. Why am I advocating for a private school like Memorial? Too much sand and dust in the brain here in Iraq. A cat will win regardless at Jerry Brewer Alumni Crusades Artificial Turf Field. Or is it stadium. It's Jasper and Memorial. Three overtimes, rain and lightning delays, a reurn on Saturday would make this Patriot fan happy.
  2. No challengers? I'm the automatic winner of this final iteration of the the PAC Pick'Em challenge? Stop being pansies and take three minutes to post your winners.
  3. Wow. No love for Evansville Memorial despite beating Evansville Central which has a depleted interior this year. Central has studs, no doubt. Memorial going from 3A to 4A isn't a huge change given their SoS and conference.
  4. Post your live scores and highlights on this thread for 2019 Week 1 games on August 24-25. Sorry to steal your thunder Dirt Devil. You need to to register. Also you can follow along on Twitter. Tweet @gridirondigest, #TGD or #GID to automatically retweet your scores (please limit it to previews score changes, quarters, and end-of-games.) Our 8,000+ followers will see your update instantly. I think we can be at 10,000 by Week 3. TWEET and FOLLOW
  5. His post almost wanted me to change my pick (no pun). Then, I remembered how hard it is to stop the Wing-T consistently when you don't have much tape or tendency. I think the Raiders win with fewer than two turnovers plus TDs given up in special teams. Should be a great Week 1 learning experience for both squads. No losers or playoff implications in Indiana!
  6. Having been a former employee on the Sports Desk at the H-T briefly from 2015-2016, I have a soft spot for what that staff has tried to maintain for high school sports... especially Harrell, Beane, Gordillo, and others.
  7. Jasper has gone through iterations under Brewer and then especially Ahrens where their base was I Formation, Double TE, Flanker R/L; a true Power I; a FB/HB/TB (basically a triangle); and also more recently under Ahrens a true Wishbone and inverted Wishbone (two FBs...). They were never able to develop effective passing out of the Wishbone. Later Ahrens went to some spread sets and I believe even some Pistol/motion stuff. One thing you can always count on is Jasper having a 6-3, 230 pound RB/FB type probably with the name Schmidt or Schuetter or Messinger or Lewis, who can get you three yards on most well-blocked plays. Let's see how the Wishbone develops in the 21st century against newer defenses liked the 4-2-5, 3-3-5, 3-5-3, and other alignments. Using the middle of the field is often forgotton in this new-fangled world of tip-toeing WRs and presnap reads/sideline audibles.
  8. What did the Herald-Times preview say about his year's squad?
  9. No one has created a thread for the PAC in the Pick'Em Club. Link: Here are my Week 1 winners, if anyone decides to create a thread in that forum (or run it here until then ... I have enough on my plate). Memorial (system, experience, talent) North (begrudgingly) Heritage Hills (I'm a homer) Vincennes (keeping it simple) Boonville (I like the coach)
  10. No one has created a thread for the PAC in the Pick'Em Club. Link: Here are my Week 1 winners, if anyone decides to create a thread in that forum (or run it here until then ... I have enough on my plate): Bloomington South (toss-up, I'll take the home team) Central (swing and bubble passes, nothing between the tackles or more than a three-step drop) New Albany (says Sagarin) Memorial (all Tigers) North (even though it's a road game, the Gibson Southern insiders tell me Princeton was overhyped in local media) Reitz (don't disappoint me) Vincennes (interesting, mistake-prone Bosse fights hard but takes the loss)
  11. No one has created a thread for the PAC in the Pick'Em Club. Link: Here are my Week 1 winners, if anyone decides to create a thread in that forum (or run it here until then ... I have enough on my plate): Gibson Southern (as much as they want) Heritage Hills (HH wins, I don't see them scoring more than five TDs) Tell City (toss up) Brown County (toss up) North Posey (South Spencer probably wants revenge, but do they have the horses to win in Poseyville?) Southridge (hold on to the football, please)
  12. What schools and media outlets are posting podcasts online? Please post the primary school(s)/conference, when it is broadcast live/archived, a hyperlink, and how often it is broadcast. I think more and more programs are getting their messages out there, lets build a list. Note: Every podcast's hyperlink on this thread will be shared in an individual post with our 8,000+ Twitter followers http://twitter.com/gridirondigest. Bonus if you include a banner or graphic to embed in the tweet.
  13. Mason at Chatard? @Lysander Seifrig, Winchell or Sigler at Heritage Hills @DaveMosbey Big Play Ray at Memorial @tango ???
  14. This and the Brown County - Pike games were the hardest for me to pick. I know previous scores, Southridge's system is just incredibly hard to defend in Week 1, but it can also be very unforgiving with some untimely mistakes and if Linton has some special kids back who can break a play or two early. What's going on in Miner country? Have you moved that tee-ball baseball fence back yet or built a green monster?
  15. Here we talk about the Wishbone, its implementation, defenses (the invention of the 5-2 that led to the 3-4), power vs. option vs. counters, single motion, shifts, unbalanced. What we do not talk about is any such thing called the "inverted Wishbone, triangles, Maryland Is, Power Is, and other bastardizations" of the most balanced (not good if your QB can throw to both sides), most perfect football formation ever devised by a coach. Let's start with my favorite play. The 16 Blast (line follows FOIL blocking scheme, TE seals first backer inside of him, FB/playside RB blast the DE, playside RB takes another playside backer/SS/Rover, and the QB has three running lanes (over the DE's face, a slight inside cut between the DT and DE, or one-one-one in space against a corner back. QB has a reverse pivot, giving the backside RB two steps to get in front of the QB.
  16. I favor a 9 pm cutoff for the pre-season poll this week. @WCGrad92 should set the deadline for Weeks 1-9, as he's doing the legwork. I'll have to do some serious Google/WaybackMachine fu to find archives for 2016-2018 unless WC still has an archive. 🤔 2010-2015 is saved. Coach Adams was the inspiration for the poll which is now in its 10th year.
  17. This article is a year old. Please add something to make it relevant to conversation in 2019, or it will be deleted.
  18. If we get 6-8 frequent players, we can definitely split it into divisions Big/Small School or North/South... Also because not everyone has the time/desire to do weekly roster changes, we could do a collective points system ... I believe it's called rotary or something. Draft whoever you want, change your roster whenever you want, scoring is collective end-of-year (Week 15) by category (Most Pass Yards, Passing TDs, Rushing Yards, Rushing TDs, Catches, Receiving Yards, Defense, Kicking)... Join one, join all...
  19. Is anyone running an NFL fantasy football league this year? If someone puts it together and we get 8-12 players, the winner will receive a donation for Booster status on TGD which they may use or pass it on... Also braggin' rights in your profile. Anyone willing to organize? Is everyone using ESPN or NFL or another site nowadays?
  20. I'll do 2A, 3A, and 4A. TGD poll is the only poll that combines the opinions of coaches, fans, media, administrators, and Uncle Rico. Even @DT's vote is welcomed. (In all honesty we need more northern representation on the poll ... Da Region and that isolated 9-team conference (I forget its name) needs to have some pollsters.
