Health is an extravagance? Open gyms and lifting sessions are open to all students. An in-house trainer for all sports can be less expensive and better for low-income students who wouldn't get proper medical care following an injury. Certainly, I've never said everyone is on a level playing field socioeconomically. I've proposed different ways to classify schools taking into consideration socioeconomics and population from which a school can pull -- P/Ps and Indy township schools being a classic example especially in the age of open enrollment. Many athletic departments or sport-specific booster clubs receive donations from local companies and private donors including former athletes and other philanthropists. Is it the same at every school? No. However, even Warren Central had a deal a while ago with Underarmor for jerseys/training garb. Other programs have former collegiate or professional athletes who volunteer their expertise at the feeder level or in fundraising promotion. Indy Tech's facilities benefited when Indianapolis hosted the Superbowl last (not sure if it was the NFL or UNFPA). Often when a long-running/successful coach retires or passes away, an academic scholarship is created from their will/trust for HS graduates to more easily attend university/college.

I don't think so. There are plenty of arguments for not playing the most difficult SoS, such as if you have relatively small roster, you want your best players to rest/not risk injury as much. I've seen it first-hand and have concluded at 3A and below SoS means little if anything, when you have players well-coached and capable athletically of getting you through the tournament. Philosophies may differ, but Monday-Tuesday practice was almost always more physically demanding than any game I played in -- same for mental toughness (mistakes) from two-a-days until Weeks 14 and 15. ETA: To clarify 3A and below, that is assuming programs have larger rosters in 4A and above. I know there are always exceptions, but generally that holds true and roster size hasn't prevented success in the lower classes. Your best athlete getting injured because they have to play four quarters, two-ways (or more) can prevent success.

It should be noted that Mater Dei's SoS is now affected because they play in a "closed" conference schedule. How so? I don't know. Still all of their opponents are now: three 3A, four 4A, and one 5A school. All but two of their opponents are sectional contenders -- some might need a good draw, but those remaining six will likely produce a 4A and 5A sectional champion, along with Mater Dei in 2A. In most recent years, Evansville Memorial would be a sectional favorite in 3A, but now plays in 4A (success factor) and is in a bit of a rebuilding year, but won't be an easy out in the 4A tournament, nor will Vincennes Lincoln in 3A.

Not even sure if he was the best player in Marion County that year. Dray Mason at Chatard was just a junior and averaged 170 YPG. Tim Sergi at Roncalli averaged 167 YPG -- also a junior. Weight/strength/nutrition coaches, classes, and instructors (and the ability to fill those roles either internally or through a contractor) are also becoming big factors even at the 3A level. If you have an AD who considers such endeavors important, it can improve all sports, but is particularly important in football/track/soccer where you have the largest number of athletes competing together. Wrestling can be thrown in there too.

Maybe it's a habit I've picked up working in the Middle East over the past four years, especially in communications -- toe the company line, express personal opinions through the proper channels and at the right time (although in this case I agree with the Illuminati).

I fully support the decision by @DK_Barons and @77Jimmie. I believe the Clubs feature will fill any role and positively contribute to TGD and its community.

I agree, especially with the analysis of Jasper able to keep it close and even squeak out a win, but they'll have to put up points and play mistake free. I do think Castle gets the win on The Hill. Reitz hasn't provided much to be confident in, although it's still Reitz.

In this thread (page 3), you'll see and hear several examples of the home team's PA talking right up and through the snap of the ball while the visiting team was on offense, including during a potential go-ahead FG attempt by the visiting team with 30 seconds left. The visiting team ended up winning in overtime. Regardless, it is my understanding that the announcer should stop once the ball is marked ready for play. How would you handle this? I would think about the second time of it occurring would result in a chat with the HC, asking to relay a message to the press box for the announcer to stop.

It is my understanding by the mid-1990s (maybe earlier), The Law of the Jungle was distributed by the coaching staff to players. So within the program, "The Jungle" was used. Also, ever since I can remember attending HH games (1993/94 -- my sister graduated in 1996), "Welcome to the Jungle" has been played over the loudspeakers when the players take the field. That predates Wilkerson coming to Home Team Friday (1996, I think). If he wants to take credit for coining the term outside of HH circles, then I wouldn't dispute that; however, I would check local newspapers from the early '90s to see if other media used the term. But I wouldn't go so far as to credit him for creating the nickname for "Patriot Field."

When comparing teams of different eras, it's apples to oranges to make a direct comparison, especially in a team sport like football. Individual sports have shown us that technology and training methods are maximizing an athlete's potential. It's better to compare CG to teams within the past for or so years and say how they stack up... Same for WC 2006 and BD 2001 or 1991. So my question would be is 2020 Center Grove, compared to recent teams, any better than BD or WC was compared to the teams of their era?

I'm still not clear if a ball that hits a receiving team player past 10 yards is considered "grounded" (because the player is grounded) or "airborne" because the ball has not yet itself touched the ground...

As a strategy, did it appear that the kicking team would've had time to field the ball if it wasn't airborne? Also, what defines airborne? If a kick hits a receiving field player in the helmet (I've seen it on a line-drive kick that hit the first row of blockers), is the ball still considered to be airborne or must it first strike the ground to have a legal touch by the kicking team. Also, assuming that player is at least 10 yards from the kick, can the kicking team legally touch the ball before it hits the ground, but has not gone 10 yards (picturing a pin ball that bounces off a player's helmet and back toward the kicking team).

Plenty of debate about Central/North and where Tell City fits into this puzzle. Thoughts? What does your list look like?

It was a long-standing argument that the top Big 8/PAC teams wouldn't have the depth to compete in the SIAC for an entire season.

In post-game interviews HH Coach Wilkerson several times alluded to multiple players out because of injuries. Glad to get the W against the Vikings, but HH will need all hands on deck obviously against the PAC frontrunner Titans. Also, I have always had the utmost respect for the administration and football team in Poseyville, especially when I played against Coach Gengelbach's teams. And you always knew, especially in football and basketball getting a win at Posey, wasn't a foregone conclusion and his players never quit. I was however VERY disappointed to see highlights of the game with the NP public address announcer using the loud speakers to give play-by-play while HH was lining up on offense and even through the actual plays. This is a big no-no. And he did it again when HH lined up at the end of the game for a go-ahead field goal (shown below, turn up your speakers). That should have been addressed the second time it happened by the officials, who relay a message to the press box, and tell him to stop once ball is marked down and ready for play. Thanks. My father lived there for a while on a (jumping/show) horse farm, including during the Blizzard of 1979. He said the water in his eyes froze walking to the barn to tend to the horses... Fortunately, a few years later, he returned to Bloomington where he met my mother and then back to their families in Indy, where I was born and most of my family still lives.

They did correctly predict West Side growth before the North Side. Although, I don't think the West Side will fully develop much beyond USI until I-69 (whatever the state highway used to be called... SR-66 ... finds a way to USI and connects with SR-62. The northern route from I-64 is too out of the way and I realize there isn't much land between where I-69 ends downtown and USI. (This is being said with the assumption that it's still a pain during rush hours to get from the East to West Sides on the Lloyd Expressway. They were working on improvements near US-41 when I last drove it regularly... Yes you can use I-64 to 41 to the bypass to USI, but it's not really optimal.) That being said the idea of another Catholic private school on the North Side would be interesting not only because of Vanderburgh County growth in the area, but how easy it would be for nearby counties to send students to an "Evansville Catholic North." I guess the deanery has the final say?

That's where I played my last HS game against Chatard, semistate 2003 (Dray Mason, Baker, Halliburton, Dury and company) -- holding them to three TDs was an accomplishment ... First experience was there as a sophomore in 2001. Not sure if the facility has changed, but I assume the community hasn't much. Does the IHSAA allow tournament games there, as it's previously moved semistates away from Broad Ripple. Congrats on the win and season so far. I know they are taking it one week at a time, but let's see two undefeated teams going into Week 9 vs. Center Grove!

At Arlington? Even in a COVID-restricted year, one would think there's a better facility in Marion County to play -- would even consider moving this to a Saturday for a better venue.
