  1. With family on both sides of this rivalry, I'll pull for our 3A brethren. Irish luck can be traced to Hamilton County. What happened to that working class private school?
  2. The coal business results in families who do not stay in the community. That's the short of it. They've had minor success in basketball when they get 2-3 players, but to build a football program, they need generational stability IMHO.
  3. Patriots Raiders Catholic Rangers Marksmen Titans
  4. What about Jasper's soccer, swimming, golf, volleyball, and tennis programs? It does make sense. We football fans may not like it, but Jasper is more than football, baseball, and basketball.
  5. I just don't think I don't think there will be much offense.
  6. I prefer to listen to 103.3 FM WAXL with @Bcaster and Michael Crews! Does it matter who is turning around and handing the ball off 45 times?
  7. Everything old is new again. Jasper went on to win 10 straight and the Class 3A champion (Chatard) was every bit as good as the 4A.
  8. After correctly picking Jasper to win at Boonville, I'm going to be a homer and take the Patriots by five points in The Jungle. This will be the 19th game since the two teams started playing in the regular season in 2001. HH was fresh off a state championship and Jasper had one of the best running backs in the state in Brian Lewis. The game was delayed because of torrential rains. God only knows the conversations that took place between coaches, ADs, and officials. All I know as a sophomore on that team was we dressed, undressed, and redressed at least three times before starting around 9 p.m. (Central time, 10 p.m. Eastern/Jasper time). We and Jasper took turns doing last minute walkthroughs and stretches in the basketball gymnasium. When all was said and done, the game ended in a HH victory and was junior Cole Seifrig's coming out party as one of the best all-around athletes in Indiana -- at RB, WR, safety, KR, PR, and special teams safety. I think this game will see HH run until Jasper can stop it ... let's see if it takes 7, 8, or 9 in the box to do so. Mount Carmel had a good showing against Mount Vernon, I'll take our friends on the other side of the Wabash, the Golden Aces by 23 ... Does anyone know if this series will continue? Lincoln in a tight one on the road. 15-13 Alices with one or two big plays or mistakes being the difference. North Daviess ... I know nothing about this one, but it's always nice to stick it to Washington in any sport even though they probably have the best selection of restaurants in any SW Indiana town... Elnora watcha got?
  9. Independent like Cathedral... No shortage of p/p schools in Indiana and elsewhere. Football may not be the scheduling problem, what about other sports?
  10. Spectatorless games cut into the coffers of those who should be responsible for keeping order. There was a case, in Texas a few years ago I believe, where two teams had to play or continue a game without any spectators. Only players, coaches and officials.
  11. Heritage Hills better put some octane in that offense. I'm sure Coach Wilkerson and staff will have a few wrinkles to pull out of the playbook, but to honor the history of this smash mouth rivalry that is coming to an end, I hope there are no more than 10 combined passes and some hard hits.
  12. First time a PAC school has played a 6A team. Perhaps even a 5A team in the new alignment system. Will be interested to see if Gibson platoons or uses its tournament and championship rotations playing the best players two ways. Has Southport seen Gibson's no huddle offense? That could be troublesome early on if Southport plays some kind of zone (or worse man) and can't pressure the QB. I think physically the Titans will be able to block and tackle, let's see if fatigue factors in.
  13. Ha, no (he is very vulnerable to data loss and I'd be interested to know what kinds of redudency he has built in both online and offline). And he did kind of cheat and get IU's computer science or statistics department to allow Jeff Sagarin to use their "supercomputers" in the 1980s to do basketball ratings in the 1980s which were published in the Bloomington paper and then picked up by The Star and others, eventually. Sagarin won't fully reveal how he does his ratings because some are used directly or indirectly by companies and organizations like the NCAA, PGA Tour, USA Today, casinos, etc... Just as someone has written a book about Bill James, Jeff Sagarin's story needs to be told. Everything is proprietary (or based on other statistical work/proofs), but I'm not sure he makes much from it other than ad revenue, whatever books he has written, conferences spoken at etc...
  14. His website loads as fast in 1999 on dial-up in Paoli as it does today for me on high speed in Iraq. He is a machine who shows how persistence can pay off. Talk about legacy...
  15. How is the school corporation's attendance trending in the middle and elementary schools? In 5-10 years, do you expect Southridge to have a higher or lower attendance than what it does now. Being on the line (and even if you could convince Tecumseh), perhaps attendance was a factor. Seeing the Jasper game go is just a travesty, but other than that, I can see the Southridge side of it.
  16. Post your scores and highlights... If you're on Twitter, follow, share, retweet @griridondigest
  17. Jasper pulls an upset at Boonville ... really though, look at Sagarin's ratings. Even though Week 2, how is Jasper a 4-TD favorite? Mount Vernon because I have no idea about Mount Carmel and it's a shame they are leaving the Big 8 (honestly, their city council would probably agree to be annexed to the State of Indiana ... as would the southern third of Illinois) Princeton ... surely Princeton has played Washington more than any other team in football and basketball, right? That's reason enough. Floyd Central (59.69) is a 16-point favorite (1.69-point home-field advantage) against Vincennes (45.22)
  18. Reminder for me or someone else to dig out this thread from the old forum using WaybackMachine.org
  19. I had the opportunity to sit on the same computer that he had used at the Bloomington Herald-Times when I was there in 2014-15. He is a legend. He automated many processes in the late 1980s and 1990s via computer and we would occasionally have to call him in to "update" his old scripts for the newspaper. His work in Java (.json and Regex) really taught me that not everything has to be complicated and served as my inspiration for the Predictor Tool. He was going to introduce me to Jeff Sagarin, but we never had schedules which match up. Oh well, next time that I'm in Bloomington perhaps we'll be able to do it. The IHSAA, coaches and officials' associations, principals, ADs and fans owe him more than the measley ad revenue he earns through the website.
  20. This post is too close to "endzone cameras" ... thus we must close it. Sorry.
  21. Send me a quote. I'm very interested. Go ahead and send the account and routing numbers. If you send your pin, do I get a discount? Can you send me a formal quote based on conference, sectional, regional, semis, state winning? I intend to invest in this venture.
