Playoff Qualification Story (MI)

I would favor starting a week earlier and allowing teams to pick a bye week. I believe Kentucky employees this or a similar system. -
Playoff Qualification Story (MI)

Some effectively do by scheduling an "easy" opponent in Week 9. IHSAA could stop this practice or at least lessen it by saying only conference games or games against teams no more than one class apart in Week 9. ADs would hate it though. Out of state opponents would have to be no more than one class removed if classified using the current class alignment cutoffs. -
If you are interested in traveling abroad to teach any subject (fully English), I can give you some recommendations for semester or year gigs. Just message me. Compensation includes transportation, housing, food at school. Instruction in English. Extra salary if you hold a Master's or have any certificates. That's K-12. Some interesting options if you hold a Master's as a college guest lecturer.

Northwood and Luers and once MD I believe also having losing regular seasons but winning state was impressive. -

Hand them both trophies and remove the 4A state finals. Only semistate in 4A this year. #TheNewIHSAA -
John Harrell's Sectional Predictions %%

Anyone want to compare it with CalPreps and Sagarins predictors? @TW has done this before and I believe win-loss correct predictions was 78 percent throughout the tournament using Sagarin. That was 10 years ago and Sagarin now gives weight to games recent. I've thought about building a win probability feature into the predictor (similar to how the Superbowl for example said the falcons had something like a 98 percent chance of beating the Patriots with their halftime lead). It's not an exact science, but would be interesting to "check" Sagarin whose formulas are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee. -
Thank you to all boosters.

Potential Dark Horses By Class

Is Central still leading the SIAC in penalty yards this season? -

So you'd take Central to beat Memorial again -- twice in one season -- this year? Tough task. -
From a fair-playing perspective, why should a wrestler be penalized and lose 5-6 weeks of wrestling conditioning if his football team makes a deep run? We have very strict rules for when Fall sports can start practicing, but Winter and Spring are a bit looser with open gyms, conditioning classes (can they be counted as "practice?" If the goal is fair play then shouldn't everyone be starting to practice for Sport X on the same day across the state?

And some still think Memorial was the better team and will be in a potential rematch... -
What are your thoughts on *if* the IHSAA were to prohibit Fall sports athletes from practicing with their Winter sports teams until the Fall sport's state championship has been played? Already, many Winter sports games in mid November get rescheduled or canceled, if a team has a long tourney run, I believe both ADs have to agree or the team without its Fall sport players could be at a severe disadvantage. I'm particular, wrestlers also gain much needed mat and conditioning time, giving them an advantage over a wrestler who has to give an extra month to his Fall sport. Tangentially, we are learning more and more about adolescents overusing their bodies physically and the joint/bone/brain injuries which can be chronic. Should there not be a mandatory cool down period between seasons? How many coaches use pregame shoot around to fulfill the minimum practice quota?

Mater Dei, Andrean, Brownstown Central (a lot of credit is being given to whoever wins Sectional 32, but the Braves won't be an easy out for anyone as they've repeatedly proven) I still think Evansville Memorial in 4A is dangerous, despite the double OT loss to Central. Lots of players with years of deep tournament runs pays dividends they have had 12 or so extra weeks of practice over the past three years... That's a ton of time to learn play packages and even if you weren't on the field, you were practicing against state-champion quality competition. -
Reminder for everyone to get their last ballot of the season submitted. Thank you everyone who has continued to cast a vote and especially the work of @WCGrad92. This was the 10th year of the poll, inspired by the late TA ... I'lll be piecing together the polls and posting them online this offseason, as well as sharing them with @Rudy for his great website. Class 4A is an absolute mess to try and figure out. Here was my shot in the dark. East Central East Noble New Prairie Evans. Central Mooresville Evans. Memorial Marion Mississinewa Delta Plymouth

If I were GS, I'd run a spread offense (three wide and a TE, and force HH to try to match up man to man for four quarters. I'm not sure HH has the same program work ethic that they once did. Meanwhile, Gibson Southern can platoon and out work the Patriots.

GAMEDAY! The regular season wraps up as we head into sectionals... Who is playing for an outright conference championship? Who needs to be upset for other teams to grab a conference share? Any bigger game than Cathedral and Center Grove across the state? As always please also post your scores and updates here or on Twitter @gridirondigest using #TGD...

Wow I remember watching early 90s IU basketball games with Kitchell commentating and went to some Bob Knight basketball camps with his sons. What became of the Leerfield Sports Network? -
