  1. HC is still capable of making it. Linton should get credit for its wins and increasing SOS. Evans. Mater Dei Cass Pioneer Heritage Christian Linton-Stockton Rensselaer Central Eastbrook Andrean Boone Grove Indpls. Scecina
  2. I've been voting for them. I think when they were 1-2 or 1-3, I dropped them, but heck. It's still Andrean in 2A... Rolling to Lucas.
  3. Check the film. In 2000 in the playoffs, he mostly ran a mixed offense with about 30 percent out of the wishbone and 70 percent shotgun (ask Roncalli). He had receivers to throw to who chose not to play college in D2 or even D1. At Vandy, he threw effectively on the move, which is why only Shanahan understood that he wasn't a true pocket passer. Closer to Tebow than Breese.
  4. @77Jimmie @DK_Barons, What do you think of re-activating live chat for the playoffs? Disclaimer that it is not constantly moderated, but if mods see rule-breaking, it will be enforced just as it is in the forum (namely language, name calling, outing posters' personal details, attacking coaches, injuries, etc...)?
  5. Bosse's worst enemy is always Bosse. Where will this game be played and how is Bosse on numbers, depth, etc..? Round 1 Heritage Hills (75.07) is a 56.5-point favorite (0-point home-field advantage) against Corydon (18.76) Gibson Southern (63.5) is a 23-point favorite (0-point home-field advantage) against Salem (40.43) Southridge (58.17) is a 7.5-point favorite (0-point home-field advantage) against Mt. Vern. of Posey (50.78) Ev. Bosse (38.1) is a 15-point favorite (0-point home-field advantage) against North Harrison (23.25) Round 2 Heritage Hills (75.07) is a 11.5-point favorite (0-point home-field advantage) against Gibson Southern (63.5) Southridge (58.17) is a 20-point favorite (0-point home-field advantage) against Ev. Bosse (38.1) Round 3 Heritage Hills (75.07) is a 17-point favorite (0-point home-field advantage) against Southridge (58.17)
  6. In individual sports like golf, tennis, track, swimming only your best qualify from your school. But each school does get a slot...
  7. Reallly not a sound argument. Wrestling has a different metric. Track is seeded according to speeds. We do have precedent for different systems in Indiana.
  8. I've always favored seeding the tournament similiar to the way it's done for wrestling. Sectionals - Lock the coaches in a room after Week 8 and seed their sectional Regionals - Use coaches, IHSAA or Sagarin to seed 1v4, 2v3 in each of the four sectionals (Classes A-4A) Semistate (neutral sites) - Use coaches, IHSAA or Sagarin to seed 1v4, 2v3
  9. I think Baker was the better HS lineman just due to his length. Baker was used in more ways, as well. Seifrig is the best player that I have ever practiced or played with. Untouchable, versatile (run, pass, catch, return), and very physical as a safety with good ball skills.
  10. This is why I wouldn't use Facebook for documentation purposes. Wikipedia is a better option as any media posted must not already be copyrighted or have explicit written permission to share... Trademarks can be a bit different. Working in a sector and geographic region where copyright law is not enforced, but still using Facebook/Twitter, has forced me to learn much about how much protected material can be shared and end-use agreements. Thankfully, as most schools are funded by taxpayers, their information can be openly dissemenated without much concern for infringing on copyright. I would need some clarity on P/P school information (i.e. posting a yearbook photo of Chatard's 2000 football team).
  11. Not meant to be argumentative. Eventually, when I chronicle more of IN HS football on Wikipedia (if @Rudy doesn't beat it to me first), having that knowledge and some of those old email chains are invaluable. Having worked in newsrooms, so much data is lost when writers retire. The Bloomington H-T, which had some of the best preps coverage due to the team that included Harrell had all kinds of box scores from the 1970s in all sports and team records for all the local schools going back to the early 1900s just sitting in a file organizer... In another life, I would tour every small newspaper and AD office and digitize it all. TA had started doing around the state podcasts, but monetizing it was difficult at the time. Perhaps now it's easier. @Rudy's books make great Christmas presents... http://almanacsports.com/football/
  12. There were definitely jealousy talks in the 1990s, but most conversations were very local (old time Bosse and Evansville Central alumni complaining about Memorial's rise in the 1980s come to mind). What didn't really exist until you had email and lists was people from across the state debating. I still see baseball statistician (professional) email lists with "threads" dated back pre-1995. @DK_Barons or @77Jimmie may be able to elaborate on if there were IN HS football mailing lists, and if so, what the main topics were and who was involved.
  13. TA, rest in peace, would also disagree. I have stood on enough state final sidelines and been in the boxes to know that IHSAA board members and administrators know and read TGD. Some may poke fun at what is said, ADs and coaches may dismiss it, but it reasonates. I don't think we get the Success Factor implemented as quickly as it was if it were not for TGD. Conference rearrangements have also been sparked by TGD discussions. I don't agree with a lot of what you say, but you are right on, on this topic.
  14. I think we overestimated the quality of football in the PAC, yet again. North Posey, South Spencer, and (for a bit) Forest Park presented real challenges to Heritage Hills and Southridge and then eventually Gibson Southern. The Titans had a good squad in 2002 that got banged up. A regional or semistate loss by the Sectional 32 winner is not beyond possibility, due in part to the weakness of the PAC.
  15. What's the shortest, four-quarter game that you have been to this year (by real time)? Did the Mercy Rule come into play or just two running teams with long drives? Do you feel like you should pay less for a short game or do you see it as getting home sooner?
  16. As we continue to try to be more active on social media (primarily Twitter @gridirondigest), I'm reaching out to you, the community, for your best photographs from 2019 games. Details: - At least 2000px wide (horizontal), 1200px for vertical - High quality, typically from the sidelines, from a DSLR camera or mobile phone - Action shots showing both teams or closeups of coaches - Photos should not infringe copyright law (don't submit photos that aren't yours or you have submitted to news outlets with copyright restrictrictions) - TGD is a non-profit, community forum. We would love to be able pay for the photos. Instead, we can give you a @mention on Twitter to our 8,000+ followers or your TGD user name or real name - Quality over quantity... We only need 4-5 per week now. Maybe more in the future. Thanks to anyone who wants to help and share your talent and love of Friday Night Lights. ~ Chris
  17. Week 7 should be called the stay healthy week while not losing the driver's seat on the conference. A lot of things can go wrong this week. Where do all expect upsets?
  18. Post your Indiana high school scores and updates from football games across the cstate. Also on Twitter @gridirondigest #TGD https://twitter.com/gridirondigest
  19. In 1990, Carmel lost a potential 6A second string DE (me) to Heritage Hills (father left Ellis for another plastics sales job). 96th and Lakeshore, grandmother (Class of 57) is a legacy and shocked the family by marrying a Southside Catholic who went to Cathedral. Their children went to NC.
  20. Yes, you're correct. I had the privilege of being a football player when North Spencer hired Mr Scherry. Coach Clayton "supervised" us during a "conditioning session" that unpacking the Scherry family's things from the box truck. Then after my first college stint, I got to learn a lot about coaching and basketball as a grade school assistant under Coach Scherry. Then Simon was too young, but I referreed some of Simon's games in elementary school. Simon may set some basketball records at HH, but Dan has the assist records at Memorial Gym, I believe. He's wirey!
  21. Without getting into specifics, how banged up were HH and GS. How many Titans played two ways compared to Patriots. On the HH secondary, I think some people forget how good of an all-around athlete Sigler was at IU. HH is finally starting to get another round of legacy athletes. I expect a drop over the next few years, but once some of the 1990s and 2000s players have children, they will have some strong runs. I think the same is true at Jasper in football and Southridge. Good thing the HH school system brought in Mr Sherry when they did. Sam playing at Southridge would make them a scary good 2A basketball team this year.
  22. Two birds one stone. The arguments for splitting Carmel are very valid despite Carmel being a top academic and athletic school. If the population of Hamilton County continues to increase, won't Carmel need to be split? It's larger than many private colleges in Indiana. (If another Moderator feels my post is off topic, please split it off...)
