On the field rule changes
Punttheball replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I can appreciate that. If a slot receiver has put his arm back and is still a questionable covered receiver, I am ok with. The defense can identify him as an eligible receiver because of his declaration. What I am referring to is covering a TE up and the TE going down field for a pass. There are teams that do this repeatedly and it is very difficult to get it recognized and called. It can even be brought up in the pregame meeting with the officials. Bob, is 5 in the backfield treated the same? I have seen repeated plays where the SE declares he is off and four other players are clearly off the line and it is not called or caught by the officials. -

What are you talking about? It was not pointed out earlier in the thread that it is called that way in the NFL and NCAA. Bob pointed out that "our officials are told not to nitpick". I assume since the thread is about high school football, he is referring to high school refs when he says "our". The rules for covered and uncovered are a different animal in the NFL. Not apples to apples. -

I get it because I know who your boss is. But it is a big deal to coaches. -

Honestly, this is a terrible answer. Defensive coordinators set coverages and defenses based on formations and receivers. It is important to identify ineligible receivers as a defense. This is why a covered TE is allowed to go down field and catch passes. Shouldn't 5 men in the backfield be important? It is terrible on so many levels. You are allowing the possibility of 6 eligible receivers! I'm guessing that if you are not "nitpicking" on vs. off then you don't care if teams have 5 ineligible numbers on the field either? Officials are more worried about the sidelines, if they are being observed, reading the scripted card before the game, if the balls have enough air in them, are they the correct balls, then applying simple on the field basic rules! I already know your reply will be something in line with not enough eyes, or we do what Mr. Faulkens says, or go to the IFCA, or there is already a shortage of officials "and guys like you are why!" This is bad to me. -

1. Trojanmp52 has a good point. It is done at every other level. It cannot be that hard. 2. Don't see it as a priority. 3. Impartial-the inconsistency is in the statement Trajanmp52 made. Some take the time to wait on the chains, and others do not. That sounds inconsistent to me. I would like to see covered up TE's and receivers recognized better by crews, and 5 men in the backfield. I think that these are two things that are missed in games on a consistent basis. -
IFCA Top 50, Senior, Junior All State
Punttheball replied to Titan32's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I'm sure it is a trickle down from colleges. I doubt the kids know anyone cares about how it is worded. But I'm pretty sure transfer by definition means to move from one place to another. -

His family is either moving or there has been a family situation that has changed. Either way, the term transferring is correct. What other term would you suggest? -

It didn't take long for the conversation to go there. Do you even know if the Coach nominated him for the Top 5 Team? -

It looks like he made the 4A Senior All-State team. As I state before, he may not have been nominated by his own coach for top 50. If he was, it is a mystery. -

If his coach did not nominate him for top 50, he is not considered for the award. Was he nominated? Did he make the Senior Class All-State? -
Congrats!! And breaking news!!

Really? It begs the question as to why? Come on man! -
I get your point, but there are plenty of lopsided sectional finals because of a favorable draw on one side of the bracket. There are some teams that do not take their foot off the gas. It is their choice, so I'm not debating that. But being on the wrong side of a beat down that won't stop does not help your program. IMO

I can tell you that no one from Rochester complained. It was a great game. Rochester made a huge mistake on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter and failed to execute on special teams. Congrats LCC.
-
Exactly how did they get screwed? I would not want a sectional made up of conference opponents. I think it was cool that Rochester got to play Seeger for the first time. The travel sucked, but it was a great experience for the team, and it gave two teams a chance to match their conferences against each other.

Come on DJ...I would have thought you would hit up Brokerage!

SW was playing some good football towards the end of the offensively. I felt they struggled on defense early in the year. AC has a very good team. It sounded like SW struggled to hold onto the ball early and dug themselves a very big hole. Not many teams have an answer when that happens early. The game plan goes out the door. Congrats on the win!

Talked to a Valley player that said it was a miss. What are you searching for?

I believe there are limits to the 6 quarter rule. -
I guess it is your matter of the fact attitude that you are right and everyone else is wrong! A bulletin is issued contradicting your statements and your reply is "contact the commissioner". I thought that maybe you had an issued bulletin that outdates the one that has been discussed in this thread.

From the IHSAA 2021-22 Fall Bulletin: Balls – Sectional – Each school is encouraged to use an official Wilson football (models 1003 GST, 1001 or 1005 with the NFHS authenticating mark). Regionals & Semi-States– Schools must use an official Wilson football as described above. The IHSAA will supply two (2) Wilson 1003 GST footballs. If either team desires to use another official Wilson ball (1001 or 1005 with the NFHS authenticating mark), they may do so, provided they furnish the ball. The IHSAA will supply all game balls at Lucas Oil Stadium. State Finals - IHSAA will provide all game balls. No school footballs will be used during State Finals games. There is nothing in this bulletin that supports your stance. And I have never coached in a game where our team did not use our own balls. Where is your support of your stance on game balls.
-
Pretty sure you don't have to use the Wilson ball until Regional round. Regional is the level at which the IHSAA sends each team one ball to use for the tournament.

Who would you kick out of conference?

If the NCC is a good fit for WL it should work for Western. -

In 2019, Cass played them Twice in a three week spam. It was a meat grinder for Cass. They played Western, WL, HH, WL, and Pioneer in a 5 week run. Western has no business in the Hoosier if they ever want to be player in 4a.
