After trading punts, Seymour snaps one over the QB’s head and East recovers. Seymour has had several high snaps tonight. East takes advantage of the short field by tacking on a chip shot field goal. 17-0. -

The sanctity of Friday nights

I would never pay for Sunday Ticket. Can’t justify it. However, I have friends/family that do and will let me come over and watch. No connection to Wisconsin. There were several factors that led me to the Packers though. 1. My dad isn’t a Colts fan. The Colts didn’t move to Indy until he was 21 so he already had a team. He and my uncle never got along so they always rooted for the rival to the other’s teams. Since my uncle was a Bengals fan, my dad was a Steelers fan. 2. Player marketing works on kids. When I discovered football in the 90s, Brett Favre was one of the top players. Loved watching him play and loved the Packers’ uniforms. 3. I was a rebellious kid. While I have always been loyal to an Indiana college team, I strayed with pro sports because I felt the Colts, Pacers, and Reds were too bland. I went with the Packers, St. Louis Cardinals (due to the marketing of Mark McGwire as well as my childhood appreciation of cardinals), and whatever team Shaquille O’Neal played for (although I haven’t watched the NBA in almost 20 years). We already have Peacock so I can’t say I’m spending money on it just to watch the Packers play. -

I’d rather the NFL stick to Sundays and Mondays. The only exceptions would be the season opener on a Thursday and Thanksgiving games. Being a fan of an out-of-state team isn’t a problem. Saves me money. I’ve been to a home game, though, and it wasn’t cheap. Go Pack Go! -

BNL (0-2, 0-0 HHC) at Jeffersonville (1-1, 1-0 HHC): The Stars have been abysmal thus far, having scored only seven points in their first two games. Granted, they have played two top ten teams. On the flip-side, the Red Devils have surprised in their relatively close loss to Whiteland in week 1 and their miraculous comeback at Seymour last week. How does Jeff respond to such an emotional win? Will they have a letdown this week? I think there could be some of that but I think they’re the more talented team and talent will win it for them. Jeff leads the all-time series 30-18 but BNL has won the last three. New Albany (1-1, 0-0 HHC) at Jennings County (0-2, 0-0 HHC): The Bulldogs hit the road for their first true road game of the season after netting themselves a neutral-site win over a South Bend Washington team that hasn’t had much success over the last 45 years. Then you have the Panthers who haven’t really seen any success at all since opening their doors in 1968. Particularly, this year, youth and inexperience are hurting them and their offense was very vanilla from what I personally saw last week. New Albany has won eight in a row in this series and 11 of the last 12. I expect that to continue tonight. The Bulldogs also lead the series 38-10. Seymour (1-1, 0-1 HHC) at Columbus East (0-2, 0-0 HHC): Like BNL, the Olympians have only scored one touchdown in two games. Unlike BNL, they missed the PAT. East has also played two really tough opponents as well as both Bloomington South and Columbus North find themselves ranked in at least one of the two polls. The Owls, meanwhile, will look to rebound from an epic fourth quarter collapse last week in which their defense essentially lost the game as a result of two huge plays. I have a feeling Coach Tyson Moore found a way to motivate them, especially considering their opponent is who he suited up with for four years. Tyson is 3-1 against East with Eddie Vogel as the Olympians’ coach and I’m guessing he makes it 4-1 tonight. Columbus East leads the series 36-23 but Seymour is looking to win three in a row for the first time since 1996-2000 in which they won six in a row. Floyd Central (0-1) at Silver Creek (2-0): The Highlanders conclude their non-conference schedule tonight by making the short drive to Sellersburg where they face an undefeated Dragons team. Silver Creek has feasted on what appears to be an easy schedule and Floyd Central will be fresh after last week’s game with Terre Haute South being canceled. The Dragons won the first game in the series back in 2021 but the Highlanders have won the last two games. I think FC makes it three in a row tonight. -

Week 3 Schedule BNL (0-2, 0-0 HHC) at Jeffersonville (1-1, 1-0 HHC) New Albany (1-1, 0-0 HHC) at Jennings County (0-2, 0-0 HHC) Seymour (1-1, 0-1 HHC) at Columbus East (0-2, 0-0 HHC) Floyd Central (0-1) at Silver Creek (2-0) -
Nah. Life is pretty good going from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love. However, I guess this would be the wrong thread to mention my NFL loyalties. It’s not exactly Colts country in your neck of the woods like it is in my area of the state.

You should feel bad for me. He’s allegedly a Packers fan and I’m really ashamed of that. I’d rather not claim him.

To be fair, the boys basketball semistate run occurred in 2023. I think it just simply came down to the EIAC not wanting to expand past 8. Madison was pitching to join at the same time as Jennings County was. Not sure if it was a package deal pitch or not but I wouldn’t think so. Personally, I think the EIAC should’ve taken them both. They already have big school and small school divisions in football so it’s not like they’re playing seven conference games. Put Jennings County and Madison in the big school division and move Batesville back down to the small school division. -

Jennings County already tried leaving the HHC about three years ago but didn’t want to leave to go independent. They wanted to go to the EIAC but the EIAC wasn’t interested. So since there were no other options, they decided to remain in the HHC…for now. -

Hoping someone here can help me out. I’m trying to do a better job of following the high school football in all areas of the state. Who/What is the best source to follow Indiana high school football in and around the Muncie area? Is there a specific newspaper or tv station reporter I should follow who tweets about, writes articles about, or does news broadcasts about the football taking place up there? -

I would think one of the CCC or EIAC schools would have an opening since they don’t play have a ton of conference games or guarantee games. Maybe Chatard, Roncalli, Lawrenceburg, or East Central could open up a spot for them. Or, like you said, other teams in Kentucky that aren’t powerhouse Louisville private schools.
