  1. Exactly. I knew it wasn’t going to matter for Columbus North regardless. Nobody in that sectional was stopping Center Grove. I definitely felt for Warsaw. It essentially ruined the momentum from their great regular season
  2. Yeah I don’t think the players and coaches that had double-byes in 6A this year would like to do that again. I feel like that would be universal across the board. Two weeks off is too long, especially when everyone else is only off for one week.
  3. The only time any class has had less than 32 teams was 6A this past fall when COVID caused a delay in reclassification but teams still moved down as a result of the success factor. That should never happen again. Every class should have at least 32. This is exactly what I came up with when I did 5A
  4. As I anticipated, the IHSAA executive committee meeting minutes were posted today. Here’s the section about enrollments and reclassification.
  5. I noticed the minutes from last month’s meeting weren’t posted until 12 days later. Using that same timeframe, we may not see the notes from this month’s meeting until March 2nd.
  6. I checked the IHSAA website. They usually post the meeting notes on there. Didn’t find them listed. Either they didn’t have the meeting or they’re delayed in getting the notes up.
  7. I mean, Brett Favre was my favorite football player so I’m used to it 😂
  8. After officially being announced as the new Jennings County head coach on January 14th, and then deciding NOT to take the job back on February 1st, Vasilchek has once again decided he will indeed coach Jennings County as of yesterday, February 10th.
  9. Big plot twist as Nic Vasilchek has gone the route of Brett Favre with his decision-making and decided he will coach Jennings County after all. Hopefully he sticks with it this time.
  10. Yep. I asked him about it on Twitter and he never responded. However, there’s an IHSAA executive meeting next Friday so I’d expect a decision no later than that. Then again, who really even knows?
  11. Buening was smart to get out of there. He knew he didn’t have the support he needed. Justun Sharp was trying to build up Jennings County football at the youth level but, obviously, he didn’t last long enough to really make a difference. I know the boys basketball coach, Josh Land, has input in the youth basketball program though. Probably just need someone with tenure that is motivated to make it work with football.
  12. Exactly. Plus, it helps to have a coach that is committed. Not just with the high school team but also with building up the youth programs so that the kids have the experience and fundamentals they need to be ready by high school. Also, politics have been an issue in the past but I think those days are over now with the new AD and superintendent.
  13. I don’t know for sure but, the way I understand it, it probably was family-oriented.
  14. After further consideration, Nic Vasilchek has decided not to take the coaching job at Jennings County. Back to the drawing board for the Panthers.
  15. I think there’s a difference between a successful program and an elite program. For instance, Columbus East is a successful program but Cathedral is an elite program.
  16. It wasn’t feasible to continue being successful as the “little guy” unless you’re going to go all-out and invest in the team like Gonzaga does. Not sure why Butler doesn’t. However, by joining the Big East, Butler makes a lot more money than they did when they were in the Atlantic 10 and Horizon League before it. So that’s a positive. If you haven’t been on campus in 10-15 years, you’d definitely see the benefit of all that Final Four and Big East money. As for “Big East bottom feeder”, nothing could be further from the truth. Of the ten teams that have been part of the conference since its rebirth in 2013-2014, Butler is #6 in wins. They’re ahead of Marquette, St. John’s, Georgetown, and DePaul and slightly behind Seton Hall. Throw in NCAA Tournament appearances and Butler is tied for fourth with Creighton and Seton Hall at four appearances each. Only Villanova (7), Xavier (5), and Providence (5) are higher. That also includes UConn who only has three appearances in that time despite being in the much easier AAC for most of it. Also, it was just two years ago when Butler was ranked in the top 5. Of course, COVID’s role in the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament that year kept us from seeing how far Butler would advance.
  17. As a Butler fan, there are no regrets as it pertains to joining the Big East. The only regrets we should have are that we haven’t allocated more money into the men’s basketball budget and that we don’t pay our men’s basketball coach better. Not talking LaVall. I’m talking about the one we let get away (Holtmann).
  18. Classifications will change after the school year. Classifications are updated every two years.
  19. Yeah but take Columbus for example. There are two middle schools (Central and Northside). Neither of them are assigned to a particular high school. Most kids that attend Northside go to Columbus North but not all do. Just like most kids that go to Central go to Columbus East but not all do. Add in St. Peter’s Lutheran and St. Bartholomew Catholic which are K-8. Neither of them are assigned to a particular high school. So that’s where issues arise.
  20. Honduran and Guatemalan? Wow. Wasn’t expecting anything other than Mexican in these parts.
  21. There were jokes made when I was in high school about their high Hispanic population. I brushed it off thinking it wasn’t any higher than what Columbus had, but I also didn’t take percentage of the population into account. It’s crazy to hear it’s now nearly 1/3 of the total population. I guess I still look at Seymour as a bit of a backwoods area and not as something that would attract minorities.
