  1. As someone who has a lot of visibility to the program and the school as a whole, there’s just not the level of commitment there to make them competitive. I’m a firm believer that you need to start kids at the youth levels and build them up so that they have the skills and the knowledge necessary to succeed by the time they get in high school. Jennings County should have an advantage in this area considering it’s the only high school in the entire county. There’s also only one middle school in the county. The unfortunate thing is, Justun Sharp was fully committed to the program and wanted to build them up from the ground level. He was a young guy who played at Jennings County himself so the passion and energy were there to make them successful. However, being a dad came first and he had to take care of his daughter. Sadly, I’m not sure they’ll find someone with the ability or the motivation to stay at Jennings County and build them up into a contender. You don’t get many Howard Joneses at Jennings County. What he did with wrestling (and Jim Harr before him) has yet to be duplicated in other sports. Jennings County has had a long history of politics in the past and that has stunted the growth of the athletic program as a whole. It’s why so many kids have transferred to other area schools, especially South Decatur (which has been given the nickname Jennings County North High School). Columbus East, Columbus North, Greensburg, Seymour, and Brownstown Central are the most common schools kids transfer to. I’ve even heard of one kid transferring as far away as New Castle. Nevertheless, the culture overall is changing a little bit. The athletic director that was hired within the last few years is an outsider and he’s been bringing outsiders in as head coaches. When you’re known for losing, it’s best not to higher from within because things won’t change. The AD also doesn’t kowtow or play politics. He’s a good guy and a breath of fresh air. Hopefully he doesn’t get chased off. Jennings County has the potential to be good at sports but it’s going to take a lot of time to reverse the skeletons of the past and the reputation of being a losing program. The pieces are in place. There just needs to be some buy-in from the student-athletes and their families and full commitment by the coaches.
  2. Week 12 Prediction Seymour (4-5) at New Albany (7-3): The Bulldogs beat the Owls by 21 in week 8. They’ve beaten every team in this conference by double-digits except for Columbus East (including Floyd Central twice). Hard to think this week will be any different. New Albany owns the HHC this year and deservedly so. New Albany gets the W.
  3. Both teams got byes into the semifinals and both teams were on the road for their semifinal games. Based on the rules the IHSAA uses to determine the home teams in the postseason, Seymour should be hosting the sectional championship because they are in the bottom half of the bracket. The only way they wouldn’t be the host is if they agreed to let New Albany be the host.
  4. Is it posted because the interim doesn’t want the job or is it posted because the interim has to be interviewed for the job in order to be hired as the true head coach?
  5. Rails has always been my go-to in Seymour. Never been to Brooklyn Pizza. Is it legitimate Brooklyn-style pizza or is it just the name of the place? As a huge pizza lover and someone that has tried many different styles of pizza, I don’t want to get my hopes up if it’s not true Brooklyn-style. I need to know where to set my expectations before going in 😂
  6. The irony of the fact that the only two HHC teams left are the ones that beat East. Couldn’t have been more appropriate. Trying to decide if I should make the short drive over to Seymour to watch the game, spend an hour in the car to watch Chatard at Roncalli, or spend an hour in the car to watch Brownstown Central at Lawrenceburg. Better food options on the south side of Indy and slightly better food options in the Lawrenceburg area in comparison to Seymour, but not more convenient drives.
  7. Quick question for you Donnie. Who do you find the least tolerable? Cody Parkhurst, your boss Randy, or your neighbor Mitchell?
  8. He didn’t learn when it happened last year and I doubt he does this year.
  9. He’s a disgrace to Packers fans. None of us would claim a guy like that.
  10. If Merrillville somehow makes it to state, CP is the kind of guy that would blame a blowout loss to Center Grove on the wind.
  11. Pick ‘Em Standings (after week 11): @Frozen Tundra 38/46 @Olympian06 37/46 @LC_Bears_04 36/46 @mamasa 31/46 @boilerfan87 30/46
  12. Whiteland 14 Columbus East 7 Half Seymour 12 BNL 3 Half
  13. Week 11 Predictions Columbus East (4-5) at Whiteland (5-3): The Olympians will try to avoid ending their season where it began. The Warriors have been a little up and down this year (with a win against Mooresville and a loss against Franklin) which leaves the door open for an improving East team to get the upset. However, I don’t think East has improved enough to keep that Whiteland offense in check. Whiteland wins. New Albany (6-3) at Floyd Central (4-6): This will be the fifth time that the Bulldogs and Highlanders play twice in a season. The teams split wins in 2000 and 2009 but Floyd Central got the sweep in 2010 and 2017. New Albany will attempt to get their first season sweep tonight but I don’t think it’ll be easy. Something tells me they are ripe for a big letdown tonight. Nevertheless, it’s hard for me to pick against their talent and experience. They’re conference champs for a reason and I’ll ride with them again against their rival. New Albany wins a tight one. Seymour (3-5) at BNL (4-5): Yet another match-up that I feel could go either way as the initial meeting was only a six-point win for the Stars. Even with a first-year coach, I feel safer picking BNL. The Owls have made improvements this year but I need to see more from them before feeling confident enough to pick them. BNL is my pick.
  14. Pick ‘Em Standings (after week 10): @Frozen Tundra 36/43 @Olympian06 35/43 @LC_Bears_04 34/43 @mamasa 30/43 @boilerfan87 28/43
  15. We didn’t even have to have seen the Jennings County at Martinsville games to know how last night’s game was going to go. Trust us. Lol
  16. Week 10 Predictions Jeffersonville (3-5) at Floyd Central (3-6): The Red Devils will be trying to avenge a seven point loss to the Highlanders in week 5, but the Highlanders will be trying to avenge last year’s seven point loss in sectionals to the Red Devils. Like last year, I feel like Floyd Central should cruise to an easy win but, as recent history between these two suggests, nothing is for certain. Still, Floyd Central is my pick. #6 Mooresville (7-2) at Jennings County (1-8): Jennings County is 6-36 all-time in the postseason. Half of those wins came against Madison with whom they hold a 3-1 postseason advantage (the lone loss was a double OT thriller). Unfortunately for the Panthers, they didn’t draw Madison this year. Instead, they get Mooresville. This is the third year the Pioneers have been a part of sectional 23 and, so far, they’re undefeated. That looks to continue this week as the game should be decided by halftime. Mooresville wins by a lot.
  17. I would hope nobody picks Jennings County. It’s going to be bowling shoe ugly.
  18. Pick ‘Em Standings (after week 9): @Frozen Tundra 34/41 @Olympian06 33/41 @LC_Bears_04 32/41 @mamasa 28/41 @boilerfan87 26/41
  19. Jeffersonville 40 Jennings County 14 Final Seymour 34 Madison 0 Final
  20. Week 9 Predictions BNL (4-4, 3-2 HHC) at Columbus East (3-5, 3-2 HHC): I would’ve picked a different winner three weeks ago. The Stars are definitely capable of coming in and getting a win but the loss to Floyd Central turned me off to them. The Olympians have improved a little since the beginning of the season. Not a whole lot like they usually do but I can see it. East gets the win. Floyd Central (3-5, 3-1 HHC) at New Albany (5-3, 5-0 HHC): The Highlanders have the pieces to pull off an upset in this rivalry/HHC championship game. It probably will be closer than most expect. Nevertheless, I still like the talent and experience the Bulldogs bring to the table. This is their year to win the HHC and they knew it before the season even began. They’re not sharing it either. New Albany gets the W. Jennings County (1-7, 0-5 HHC) at Jeffersonville (2-5, 1-4 HHC): It’s going to be another long night for the Panthers. The Red Devils could use this game as a confidence boost going into sectionals. Jeff is my pick. Seymour (2-5) at Madison (3-5): South Dearborn beat the Owls by 30 in week 1 before losing by three to the Cubs in week 2. That was nearly two months ago, though, and plenty has changed since then. For example, Seymour beat Jennings County by 21 in week 7 and Madison lost to the Panthers by four in week 5. I’m going by the “What have you done for me lately?” principle and Seymour has done a lot more than Madison has recently. Seymour is my pick.
  21. You’ve got plenty of time to make up the one point differential. There are at least four more weeks to pick games after this week.
  22. That’s not how I’m reading it. Looks to me like Floyd Central would be the home team in the championship game if BNL beats Seymour. If both make it to the championship game then neither team will have been on the road up until that point. Since they would have played the same number of away games (zero), Floyd Central would be the host because they’d be the bottom team in the bracket.
