DTs Northern Indiana Teams of the Week - Week 4

Northwest Indiana

In a race to the wire, Morton gets the nod by a hair over Rensselaer.  The Governors blasted Munster 69-7, a week after taking out a solid Lowell team 35-23.  Morton will run the table and finish 8-1, with only a 1 point loss to Highland in the opener ruining their perfect regular season.  Big question, can anyone push the Govs from here on out and get this team ready for 4A playoff football.  Looking at the schedule, it doesn't appear so.  Coach Sean Kinsey wilol have to find other ways to keep his team motivated.  Morton really belongs in the Northwest Crossroads Conference.  Its really a shame that the overly provincial leaders of the NCC schools cant be a little more open minded and open the door to expansion into Hammond.

North Central Indiana

Concord and Plymouth share the top spot this week.  Concord is 4-0 after taking out always tough Northwood and Plymouth surprised surging Warsaw in what many will call an upset.  Plymouth might take that personally as they are not quite ready to hand over the reigns as NLC head honcho to Warsaw without a fight.  Both teams will be heavily favored this week , with a big matchup between the two looming on October 4.

Northeast Indiana

Homestead is 4-0 after blasting reeling Bishop Luers 51-0.  The Spartans have the stingiest defense in The SAC, giving up just under 7ppg.  The game of the year in the SAC is this Friday as Homestead entertains unbeaten FW Snider in a battle for top dog in the conference.  Might be the biggest game in the state this week.  What the hell, let's call it that.

So Homestead's win over Dwenger doesn't count?

Since Northwood became a high school in 1969. It actually has more conference titles then Plymouth. (14 to 13)

Yes it counts.  My mistake.  It's the reason they are NEI TOTW

You’ve got it backwards. It’s the Hammond School Corp. that is the obstacle, and their insistence that all the Hammond schools stay together. So, if the NCC wanted Morton, they’d have to make room for Clark, Gavit and Hammond High, too. A non-starter.

With the new Hammond High School under construction, its likely we will see consolidation, with HHS on the west and Morton on the east.  Clark and/or Gavit will go.  Just a matter of time.

Best case scenario would be for Hammond to consolidate down to HHS and Morton, with both going to The NCC, along with ECC

We are like-minded on this.
