Ben Davis @ Avon:  Two teams I picked to win last week whose openers resulted in disappointment.  Expected "some" growing pains at BD, but to nearly get shut out on your homefield is concerning.  Thought Avon was farther along but maybe I am underestimating Lafayette Jeff.  I think BD gets back on track a bit here and wins going away, 27-10.

Brownsburg @ Cathedral:  Can't wait for this one as Cathedral shocked the state last week and will have no time for a breather.  I disparage Brownsburg often on here because this is exactly how they suck you in.  They always have an early season eye opener that puts the state on notice so I am gonna pick em here in what I consider a mild upset.  Brownsburg wins 28-24.

Carmel @ Westfield:  Last year I called this game a "changing of the guard" and Westfield earned the win.  The 'Rocks had a huge road win against CG last week, handing the Trojans just their second home loss since COVID.  They have to be wary of a let down.  I think this one has all the makings of a classic.  Westfield wins 23-17.

Franklin Central @ Roncalli:  The tide seems to have turned in this southside rivalry and FC needs this one to prove it.  I like the Flashes chances here and think they could also upset one of the HCC's top four at a later date.  FC wins 27-17.

Lawrence Central @ Zionsville:  Both teams coming out of backyard brawls with losses in week 1 and wins are going to be hard to come by when looking at their remaining schedules.  Both teams desperate for a win here.  I'll take LC 24-20.

Noblesville @ Homestead:  Noblesville HAS to get this one if they want to be taken seriously by their HCC brethren.  Homestead with a rough start to the season though they'll be better in the tournament for scheduling these games.  Millers win 24-17.

North Central @ Hamilton Southeastern:  The Panthers made the final score look respectable last week after getting down early against Fishers.  HSE went on the road and put it to a good Carroll team.  This one won't be close.  HSE 49-7.

Pike @ Fishers:  Nice win for Pike last week and I think the Red Devils are improved and could surprise a couple of teams this year.  But not this week.  Fishers wins 38-14.

What say you?

You're being generous. Give me Noblesville to cover.

Ben Davis should respond from their disappointing loss to Cathedral with a beatdown of Avon.

Brownsburg at Cathedral:  This is the toughest big game to pick in Central Indiana on Friday night.  Since it's August, I'll go with Brownsburg to win by 3 points.  If this was November, I'd pick Cathedral to win the game.

Carmel at Westfield:  Westfield proved they are a state title contender with a win a Center Grove last week.  Normally, this is a spot for a letdown.  However, every team in Hamilton County gets up to play Carmel.  If Carmel couldn't beat Westfield the previous 2 seasons, they sure as hell aren't doing it this season.  Westfield avoids a letdown and wins by 14-17 points.

Franklin Central beats Roncalli by 14 points.

LC at Zionsville:  LC only lost to LN by 7.  Zionsville wasn't competitive against Pike.  LC should win by about 7 points.

Noblesville at Homestead:  Noblesville beat Homestead last season 42-0.  It can't be that bad this season right?  Noblesville wins by 14.

Hamilton SE blows out North Central.

Pike at Fishers:  Pike showed signs of improvement last week against Zionsville.  Fishers had a dominant first half against North Central.  Fishers wins by 10 points.

Ben Davis @ Avon:  BD will be too much to handle. BD 38-17

Brownsburg @ Cathedral:  Brownsburg looked good against an inferior opponent. I still am expecting a little bit of a "down year" for the Bulldogs. Cathedral 31-21

Carmel @ Westfield:  Westfield 31-24

Franklin Central @ Roncalli:  It was only a matter of time until West turned the program around. They continue to get better and will be a real test for CG come sectional time. FC 38-27

Lawrence Central @ Zionsville:  LC 42-28

Noblesville @ Homestead:  Noblesville 24-21

North Central @ Hamilton Southeastern:  HSE will handle this one early. HSE 49-14

Pike @ Fishers:  Fishers 38-24

A funny thing happened on the way to the BD beat down of Avon…

Great win for Coach Gibson and a program that really needed it.

Avon proves it can hang. I was thrown off after week 1 results, but did expect them to be much improved.

I have been proven completely wrong on Brownsburg for writing them off. All John Hart does is win.

The HCC is going to be a fun conference this year.

Coach Gibson will keep Avon punching with the best of them. I was excited to see that win.

Fantastic win for Avon. Congratulations to Coach Gibson.

As far as the game went, I thought the Giants had Avon rattled and reeling when that kickoff return happened. The Giants rallied again, but that kickoff return was the difference in the end. The two-point conversion call was a definite risk and the play call was excellent.
