Gipper Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 (edited) The following could get real U-G-L-Y: they ain't got no alibi: Bluffton-Southern Wells (see I look at teams not in my area) North Posey-Tecumseh (not the camp in Brookston) Lawrence North-Ben Davis--might irk some West Siders, but the Giants are experiencing a rebuild Griffith-East Chicago Central--more than a case of the haves vs. the have nots.... Columbus North-Terre Haite North--funky architecture meets the baking powder maker of the world Penn-South Bend Adams--are there any good sales at the UP Mall? HEAD SCRATCHER OF THE WEEK Lafayette Jeff-Richmond--I don't see why the NCC is still in operation..... Edited September 27, 2024 by Gipper Quote

It's the "Conference of Champions". At least that is the high-faluting label it was given back in my football-playing days. I think at the time every member of the NCC had won at least one state basketball title. But in this new era of conference-hopping it will probably break apart soon. I wouldn't be surprised if the heart and soul of the NCC, Kokomo, jumps ship to the "new" Sagamore conference. After that it's just a house of cards................ HEAD SCRATCHER OF THE WEEK Lafayette Jeff-Richmond--I don't see why the NCC is still in operation..... There's other kinds of headscratching going on with the NCC. Logansport voted to eject Harrison and McCutcheon from the NCC and then bolted themselves for the Hoosier Conference right after that. Richmond cast a vote to eject Harrison and McCutcheon citing size and travel distances, yet kept Jeff. For Richmond, by Google Maps, the drive to Harrison is a minute more than the drive to Jeff. The drive to McCutcheon is two minutes less than the drive to Jeff. Based on sizes, Harrison is now 2169 up from 2079, Jeff is 2034 down from 2153, and McCutcheon is 1786 down from 1807. Richmond is 1320 down slightly from 1327. Probably need to bring back the "Who you crappin?" thread again. As to Jeff's vote to eject Harrison and McCutcheon, we can only speculate, but I'm pretty sure that it's not size and distance as Harrison and McCutcheon both seemed to have made their way on to Jeff's schedule again this season. After that it's just a house of cards................ If they'd swallow their pride, I could see Kokomo making a bid to join the new Sagamore, which will be Harrison, McCutcheon, Tri-West, Lebanon, and Danville, but if Harrison/McCutcheon hold a grudge, the vote might be, at best, 3-2. The joint release from McCutcheon and Harrison ADs upon joining the conference read, in part, “In joining with Danville, Lebanon and Tri-West, Harrison and McCutcheon have the opportunity to help shape the future membership of the conference.” Quote

The joint release from McCutcheon and Harrison ADs upon joining the conference read, in part, “In joining with Danville, Lebanon and Tri-West, Harrison and McCutcheon have the opportunity to help shape the future membership of the conference.” As I was corrected in another thread, Tri-West has moved to the Hoosier Legends Conference: https://inpreps.com/2024/08/14/hoosier-legends-conference-embrace-exciting-new-era/ Quote
Gipper Posted September 27, 2024 Author Posted September 27, 2024 Although new conference are a good thing in my far from humble opinion, there are many traditionalists in the fine state of ours that would disagree. Good for them. But do they see the big picture? Logistics and (to borrow from @DT's vernacular) competitive balance are essential. Some leagues have, while others don't. Quote

Gipper Posted September 27, 2024 Author Posted September 27, 2024 With all this talk of new conferences, here are some name ideas: Big 12--yeah, I know, done once with the 812's Big 8, how did that end? Catholic League--borrowed from our good friends the FIPS... City Speed League--applicable to our metro areas only... Hoosier Prairie Conference--two things we have a lot of Indiana Flyaway Conference--borrowed from our good friends who originated the term FIPs... Little 8/10/12 Conference--for our beloved 1A members... Sycamore League--recognizing Indiana's heritage should not be ignored The Valley--if the Missouri Valley conference in the NCAA can do it, so can we! Just pick any valley and go with it... Tomahawk League--see Sycamore League (also insert Rust Belt or any past topic). Quote

Please remind me of this grudge Harrison and McCutcheon may hold against Kokomo. Is it because "Wildkats" is a cool mascot name while "Raiders" and "Mavericks" are rather generic? Is it because Kokomo's Memorial Gymnasium is better than than cookie-cutter dumps the other schools play basketball in? Quote

Kokomo sided with the folks who voted Harrison and McCutcheon out of the NCC citing size and travel distance. If Kokomo were now to decide that they didn't like the NCC, it would be an interesting irony. Quote

Yeah, while the size argument may hold regarding Harrison's surge in enrollment, the travel distance argument is bogus. They seem to have no problem driving to Richmond or Muncie. Quote

If it goes anything like the Washington game, Penn scored like 21 points in the first few minutes in that game. Quote
