Caught this clip from PMS yesterday, OUTSTANDING segment.

There is a pattern emerging now, can the NFL brass be able to combat it??   Pat and DButt and Hawk, 3 former NFL players, all making great points, these are 20-22 year olds who have never been told NO by others because they have had former coaches in college who were afraid to combat discipline issues because of either A.  How much they were being paid and B. afraid they would just LEAVE and go somewhere else and probably get paid more to do so.

Loved the clip of Vrabel on it as well.  A good 17 min segment imo.

it is of my opinion that some organizations are going to be better equipt to deal with this head on vs others.  Example, PIttsburgh benched Rookie starter OL for playoff game because he refused to play with a cast on, so they just said fine, your down......Don't think Steelers of previous years would of made that decision.  You think Joey Porter would refuse a cast and not play?

Its a shame if you think about it.  The mission for any college to educate a person to get them ready for the "real world".  We all agree that education is not confined to the classroom.  While this may be a challenge for the NFL, what about society in general?  Think about the countless players that will not transition to the NFL and hit the working world immediately following the college?  How about the other college players that will transition briefly to the NFL. and then find themselves on the outside looking in pretty quickly.  It is certainly an issue the NFL will have to manage...but sadly, so will others.....

that is why I really really really admire MATT PAINTER, obviously, my Purdue alma mater and background, sure, HOWEVER, I have studied him many times over and I know my IU hoops folks like @Irishman  will quietly admit how much they admire how Coach Painter runs the show.  He doesn't promise anyone anything, only the opportunity to come in and compete.  Purdue is one of only 2 teams in the nation who did not take on a transfer this past year.   His quotes from his time on committees dealing with the transfer rules are really good.   In summary, "what are we teaching young people".   "when it gets hard just leave?"   "Adversity hits and you quit?"    stuff like that.

I am an IU fan (tough after last 2 games) and will openly admit....Painter is one of the best in the country.  Wish he was in Btown.  Purdue has a true gem.

Painter recruits competitors, he finds kids in the sticks that are “Purdue people”. Then he coaches them. Versus recruiting 4-5 stars at Bloomington and the me me me culture.

No being quiet with e admitting it. I respect great coaches regardless of who they coach for. That is why I kind of worry that the Vikings seem to have found one of those guys. The Lions sure as hell did………dammit. Imagine last year’s Purdue squad if Ivey stayed….holy cow.

That he does for sure, however, he does and has recruited 5 star and top end talent nation wide.  I mean he had Kannon Cathings at Brownsburg, signed, but before report time, Catchins wanted certain assurances about his role, Painter told him again, your opportunity for a role will be what you do here in practice and all that, didn't like that answer, Painter gladly let him out of the LOI and he went to the bag man in BYU where they have a pipeline to the OVERTIME ELITE program that Cathings left for his SR yr of HS.     Snagged Trey Kauffman Renn right out of IU back yard, 4 start nation wide recruit.

IU signed CJ Gunn, Purdue signed Braden Smith, same class.    so yeah I get that .

Intereresting he has a test he gives recruits on the process while being recruiting, sort of a personality traits type of thing.  He will stop recruiting kids if they fall under a threshold.

But to your point, who ranks the rankers?   I mean Xavier Booker was supposedly the 2nd ranked kid in the nation at Cathedral, in year 2 at Michigan St, still can't get much going.   Purdue pulled out mid way JR year.

He was on record years ago stating he will always find 1 shooter every class.

DJ Byrd

Ryne Cline

Carson Edwards ( literally no one cared about him, drafted, but didn't stick, lighting up a very good Euro league)

Dakota Mathias

Sasha Stephanvic

Fletcher Loyer

Cj Cox (another Painter Gem, was in Texas recruiting a huge event and watching someone else, but he just kept making plays and shots and his teammates loved him, talked to AAU coach and asked who his major offers were, coach said none, he said, welp, that changes now, I am offering him today ).

This is what I was referring to as “Purdue people”. My daughter's coach often referred to “Marian people”, those were kids who got it done in the classroom, good teammates, kids that had a work ethic, kids that were competitors, kids that had game savvy. I have mad respect for what Painter has accomplished at Purdue, and if you remember his playing days, there was little doubt he was going to be a successful coach. Bloomington has bought into the AAU bro culture, does anyone that’s watched this garbage think any of those people give a shit about their teammates or University on the front of their jerseys?

Not if you are a football player or basketball player at a D1 level school. Not anymore.  It's to win games, period.

I have no idea.  I was thinking of the “regular” schools, like the MAC, etc. smaller D1 schools.

I will just say this as a college athlete parent, keeping in mind my daughter played Softball and we always knew there was no million dollar contract at the end of this rainbow. I have to think for the masses that’s still the case, 90% of the college athletes have to know the same thing. I did my homework on coaches we talked to during the recruiting process, I wanted the same values we as parents were trying to teach. And obviously the education. Somehow all that stuff gets lost in all this. I realize I’m from another time, but there’s nothing wrong with having some values.
