Basementbias Posted March 24, 2025 Posted March 24, 2025 Just throwing an idea out there. Why not create an additional round to eliminate playing 2 semi state games? Have the sectionals remain the same, but add in a "Districts" round. This would be between Sectional and Regionals. Say have it Tuesday (11th this year) or Thursday (13th this year) before Regional. Then Regional & Semi State can be 1 game each. Also can award another trophy for that round. That or make Sectionals have 1 more game. Quote

If I could make changes, I would create a Sweet 16/Elite 8 Regional and a Semi-State/State weekend. Imagine a two-game Regional, then the weekend of the Championship, Final Four games being played at Hinkle, Mackey, Assembly Hall, and Joyce Center at Notre Dame, and then the Championship at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Final Four games could be played on Thursday or Friday night, then title games on Saturday or Sunday. Quote

Also, if you do it for boys, you have to do it for girls, and when the girls tournament is still occurring the college regular season is still happening. Great idea, but it is a dead end. Quote

That is absurdly stupid. JC vs BC should have been at Seymour (that's 8K+) Ev Mem vs Princeton at Washington.. another hefty crowd. Instead... you sent BC to Washington against EM, and JC to Southridge against Princeton. That is laughably stupid. Quote

Can you imagine the uproar if, let's say, a mediocre team wins a mediocre Sectional only to have a good team win a tough Sectional then have to travel to the mediocre team for Regional midweek? Quote

One other issue is that the boys semistate weekend coincides with the first round of the NCAA WBB tourney. Mackey's days of hosting a semistate were numbered after 1995, when Purdue earned a host seed, but had to travel to San Diego State for the opening two rounds because the semistate had the building (and if you're saying "just go Friday/Sunday," the NCAA blocks off the building for four days. There is no allowance for other events during that time). IU, Purdue, Butler and Notre Dame are not going to give up their buildings for a weekend when it could cost them home court for an NCAA event. Quote
