The real debate begins with what conference is third.

You could make a case for the SAC, Duneland, Mid-State or SIAC and I’d be willing to listen.

Don’t forget the 2 x-factors out there: Center Grove & Carmel. Can’t wait to see what KW does at Carmel..

Once again, not trying to stir the pot (for a change) nor hijack the thread but the CG back to the MIC whispers have been spreading down here in central Indy…

I said what I said.

Look, I don’t want to be accused of hijacking another thread.

The Duneland is a top 5 conference in the state, maybe better.  But the gap after the top two conferences is massive

Lets leave it at that.

I'll roll with that.

Not sure how the SAC stacks up in recent seasons, but the fall of Dwenger and Concordia doesn't help their cause. Luers is still just a 3A school.......good program or not, they're not winning 4A anytime soon. You basically have two teams at the top, Snider and Carroll, no order. I imagine Homestead would do just fine against any conference's third team not named HCC or MIC. Same with North Side against someone else's #4. I'd really have to dive into this to come up with a ranking. Hate to say it, but maybe just defer to Sagarin for the time being. At the end of the day, no one really cares about chanting "we're #3." The gap between Indy (6A only) and the rest of the state needs to close. The SAC took the first necessary steps a couple of seasons ago.

Back on topic…

Crown Point/Pike this fall will tell us a lot.

I know it’s early in the season and just one data point but if Crown Point wants to be taken seriously they need to win that game by double digits.

Week two will be telling for the North. You also have Carroll/Center grove and Homestead/Noblesville.

Eh, from an outsiders pov...I think think the Vikings reclaim the top spot this year. Cp had a good run of talent recently and I would like to see if they can keep reloading...that rb/qb D1 combo would make a lot of teams look bad the past few years. Valpo is "due" for a Duneland title.

I don’t expect either of those contests to be close.

Agree with you on CG vs Carroll. Are you saying Homestead in a blowout? If not, I don’t get the love for Noblesville. They’ve won nothing and have 27 wins in the last 10 years. Yes, I get it that they play in a tough conference but they need to prove it first.

I have the utmost respect for Bill Marshall at Valpo. Yes they are due for a nice run but I don’t see them getting by CP and Merrillville. I think it’s Merrillville, CP then Valpo in the DAC this year. Team on the rise is LC. Coach K doing a good job with this program.

As stated before, CP lost some very good skill players. Tough to replace but I heard Buzea went into the portal and found a QB.

11 of those 27 wins have been outside of the HCC.  They’ve fared very well in the non conference slate.

Nonetheless, they're two of the six most respected programs in 6A North (north of Lafayette). It just gives us an idea early on if they are contenders or pretenders. I wouldn't be surprised if Carroll keeps it within a touchdown, nor would be surprised if CG running clock's them. Homestead might surprise some this year. They may not get blown out by the Miller's like you're expecting. In fact, I'll just call that one even up at this point.

Have you seen the scores of the Noblesville and Homestead games the past 2 years?

Was thinking the same thing.

Is the consensus that Noblesville leveled up with the hire of Hebert?

Sparty has not been what they should be...the gap between them and Carroll widens every year..

I think Carroll and Noblesville would be one hell of a game.

I agree. Chargers scheduled up while they were on an upswing..millers would be a better fit for the next two seasons..Noblesville were leap frogged after their regional title back in 2000..what happened??

What's a respectable program? One that can compete with Center Grove year in or year out or one that can compete with New Pal year in and year out. Depends on your definition.

Remember when everyone wanted to leave Snider for dead during covid? Let's not forget that Sparty is only a few years removed from back to back SAC championships. Give Zolman a run on talent and they'll be back in the conversation. I'm not expecting them to win sectionals this year, but I don't think they'll be a team to be overlooked.

Agree. I like that matchup better than I do Carroll/Center Grove. Props to Dinan for going all in though.

Jimmy Sullivan transferring to Carroll to play for Dinan didn't do Sparty any favors. The Millers had the luxury of catching Homestead during some of their most mediocre ball of the 22 year Chad Zolman era. Odds are that they'll trend back up.
