Terrible coaching decisions by Sean Payton cost his team a trip to the Super Bowl.

I don't understand these coaches going on 4th down, passing on the 3 points.  In this case, you have a back up QB that hasn't played the entire season.  Forecast is clear with bad snow and winds coming.  And you pass on the 3 and then lose by 3.  I realize FG's were not automatic, but would have been a chip shot before the weather worsened.  Head scratcher.

Stop the stupid taunting and yapping.  You just severely hurt your team 27 (Seattle).

Perhaps the dumbest penalty I have seen for awhile....would have been off the field on 4th and 12 and due to his mouth, first down.  Then LA scores a passing TD on the same guy next play.  What's worse...the official let him yap at the Rams sideline for awhile.  You could tell the official didn't want to throw the flag.  But the moron just wouldn't shut up.  What a dork.  Seattle did cover for him and pulled out a close one, but they were fortunate this guy didn't cost them the Super Bowl.

If you believe in anything over 50% is an advantage to you then the answer is simple, statistically speaking, going for it on 4th down in those scenarios have a success rate over 50%

In 2024, the entire NFL as a whole converted 57% of these situations.

Can't live in decision making world in hindsight ......   If they were successful then what is the narrative?   Fun Game right

I understand stats and 4th down conversions.  You can't apply average stats for success when you are playing a backup QB making his first start of the season in the pressure of a playoff game in tough weather conditions.  In other words, the variables for success were very different than the norm.  Throw out the 50% success rate in this situation.  Every point mattered

HINDSIGHT

Other Side of Coin,  they execute better, they make a better call, they convert..... then what is the narrative?

I understand everyone will have an opinion on what to do in each scenario....

Me Personally, at that time of the game and not knowing exactly HOW BAD that snow was going to be, I could support the decision to go for the conversion there.   You miss, your defense has PATS pinned at the 14.    It's 4th and 1 from the 14, with 9 mins and 30 seconds left of the 2Q.     That is a PERFECT time to go for it imo.   Lots of time left in the game at that point.

At no point did anyone, including BOTH TEAMS COACHES think, man if we don't kick here, probably going to not have another opportunity to score rest of the game

I will also say:  for the back up QB crowd..... it was 7 to 7 at the end of the half, from what I saw, PAYTON did an excellent job in game planing and as ROMO also pointed out, used lots of motions to identify coverages and then was able to move the pocket a bunch to help this QB.  It was working pretty good.   Had almost 100 yards throwing to MAYE like 30 some at half.    THEN BLIZARD came...  and then it got UGLY for all.

He had full on meltdown.....

Hey Sean....  LOOK IN THE MIRROR.  You know, that play sheet you have..... there was probably about 40 other plays YOU COULD Have CALLED for your team in the Divisional Round.... but no, you ran a QB SWEEP for a minimal yards and that took your QB out for the year with a broken ankle.....   But yes..... let's yell at everyone else Sean.... let's do that....

Seems to be getting interesting between the HC and the franchise QB.  QB called out HC for informing media about injuries/surgeries.  QB was none too happy.
