What's the word around the INSC?

Jimtown and Knox still the clear favorites to win the conference in 2025?  I was at the Warsaw scrimmage last evening, had a chance to take a look at Tippy.  Looks to be a revamped offensive scheme, however QB play is their weakest link yet again this year.  They have several athletes, with speed and strength however the QB room (not very deep) not being able to get the playmakers the ball will be there Achilles heal.  Also a much smaller roster than years past for the Vikings, talking with parents in the stands it appears several players including a QB was not happy with the coaching staff.  With the new transfer rules, it will be interesting if Rochester, Triton, or even Warsaw is able to land a few of the athletes.

Sounds like addition by subtraction

Not to bash a team. But when was the last time Warsaw had a quarterback that could throw the ball and be depended on if the run got shut down

Yes. A few times. Actually. But duneland wise.. I wouldn’t call it shit down but Merrillville in regionals 2019 I believe Warsaw ran for 200 in first quarter or so. But mid 2nd -end  of game I think only got 70 more yards. I could be wrong though. There was a lot of nonsense in that game

they system it’s self is easy to beat if your players know there assignments. My husband uses the system in pop warner.

Valley people are never happy. Valley people also are and always will be Valley people.

If you have the athletes and they stick to their keys. One weak link and you're in for a long night.

I don’t disagree.  It if you play the right defense that offense is dead in the water. A 3-3-5 stack makes that offense impossible to run not many schools in the state run the stack

Very true. I have only seen a team run a 3-3-5 stack once and that was in a playoff game. Most jump to a 5-2 when dealing with a run oriented scheme.  Depth really does play a factor.

Curious how the rest of the state numbers are for football this year, TV just updated their hudl roster.  Last season they rostered 85 kids, this season a total of 50 kids:

Last Season 24-25 - 23 Freshmen, 24 Sophomores, 20 Juniors, 18 Seniors

This Season 25-26 - 12 Freshmen, 14 Sophomores, 11 Juniors, 13 Seniors

Big drops from year to year in regard to the sophomore and junior classes, could this be related to other area teams not fielding freshmen teams so those kids don't see game snaps?  Seems odd the number of kids dropping out, what's the scoop from death valley?

According to MaxPreps they rostered 54 last year with only 8 seniors. I do know it was a really small senior class last year, so not sure where your numbers came from. I’ve heard it’s a smaller incoming freshman class, so the 52 roster seems consistent with last year.

I went to the North Miami, Lewis Cass, Northwestern, TV scrimmage and the TV defense looks legit. Size and speed at all positions. Offense was a work in progress which I’m sure everyone’s is in July.

I compared hudl roster from 2024-2025 to this years roster that is posted, I was just curious if other schools numbers are low as well.  My son is a freshman at Warsaw, they have had some concerns if opposing teams would have enough enrollment in football to have a freshman schedule.

I looked at their max preps roster and definitely more players on there than on the hudl roster, not sure which one would be accurate.

I definitely wouldn’t go off the hudl roster. I just looked through the 2024 roster link you put on here and there is a kid that graduated in 2020 on it.

I’m not sure Tippy Valley has ever rostered 80 kids. A small 3A rural public school will average 15 kids per grade, so figure 60 on average. And if one of the 9-12 grades has low numbers - 50ish total. If one of the 9-12 grades has really good numbers - 70ish total.

You mentioned earlier about some parents/players unhappy with the coaching staff. Thats the first I’ve heard of that. Moriarty seems to have full support of the community from everything I’ve heard. There’s always going to be an unhappy parent or kid in the crowd no matter where you go. I’m not 100% in tune with Valley, but have friends with kids in the program and they seem to be excited for a bounce back year after a so-so 2024 season.

As far as the INSC, Knox has to be the favorite. Losing Conroy will hurt more than people think, but Radtke and McLaughlin can take a team a long way.

Jimtown and TV look to be 2a and 2b. Very similar teams. Jimtown has some holes to fill, but they’ll be a typical Jimtown team. TV has a lot of returning starters and look to have an array of athletes.
Glenn looks to be a year out yet. Their Sophmore class is going to have them in contention soon though.

Laville is smallest school in conference, but is always well coached and have tough hard nosed kids. They just lack the depth to consistently compete in a 3A conference.

Bremen lost a ton. And the talent seems to be in the freshman class so may be a rough year, but admittedly, Bremen is the school in the conference I know the least about so could be way off.

Rochester is right on the edge of having a freshman, JV, and Varsity schedule. We took about 45 guys to team camp with us this summer. I'm sure we will get a few more freshman, that don't understand the commitment needed over the summer that we haven't seen, show up on day one of practice. Might get a kicker or two as well. Sounds like our numbers will be very similar to Valley's. Would be cool to play a three team schedule. Not a lot of 2A programs with that opportunity and numbers around the state I'm sure.

KNOX - Tough offense with an amazing RB that will take the game over single handedly!

T VALLEY -   Senior heavy squad, hardnosed kids.

JIMTOWN -  Will mix it up offensively and find ways to win.

LAVILLE -  Always has hardnosed, disciplined kids, just not enough players.

BREMEN -  New Coach, New Attitude....will take some games to adjust to things but will win a couple

GLENN - Just not sure culture is there.  Could be another long year!

Knox has to be the favorite. If they can get someone else to step up and be a distraction on offense they'll be a tough out this post season.
