He coached other places after leaving ND. But after he retired the only place you ever saw him was in connection with Notre Dame. A tremendous friend of the University, and by all accounts, a wonderful person. Would anyone in their right mind question whether or not he's on ND's Mt. Rushmore? Quote
Komets2727 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) I always enjoyed the Lou Holtz press conference before every game where he would build the opponent up to behemoth standards even when they were winless. Always brought a smile to my face Edited January 30 by Komets2727 Quote

Bash Riprock Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Pretty amazing if you think about it. We live in a state that has ND, IU and Purdue. That’s not a slight to any other state institution. (that I’ve also attended). But to have 3 schools of that caliber in a midwestern state…..pretty incredible Quote

My youngest brother also graduated from ND. At his commencement in 1981, Ronald Reagan made his first trip outside Washington after being shot to accept an honorary degree … along with Pat O’Brien. Seeing the two of them embrace one another on the stage after all those years… I tell you, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. 2 Quote

But I'd argue that the surrounding states could all say the same thing. IU and Notre Dame boast basketball and football programs that most states can't duplicate though. Two of the greatest sports movies ever made were rooted from our great state of Indiana.............Hoosiers and Rudy. Another good sports movie that most have probably never seen is Miss Madison. It's a great movie depicting a true story of the Budweiser boat races in Madison on the Ohio River. There was a time that Madison was on the verge of being kicked off the circuit due to their small market. It's still alive today and well worth the trip if you head down on 4th of July Weekend. Watch the movie, you won't regret it. Quote

Kind of ironic that they lose the two best RB's in the country to the draft and are still projected to be in Top 3 by most rankings. I'll be honest, I'm going to have to slate ND in that #2 spot. Although I think the Irish and Hoosier programs are on equal footing right now, I feel like Cignetti is just getting started. Cute how everyone will probably try to throw an SEC team in the Top 3 somewhere. At the end of the day, I think it's hard to bet against IU, ND, and Ohio State. I would trust Kirby Smart more than I would Texas. 1 Quote
Bobref Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Fighting Irish lacrosse season is underway. After two tuneup wins against Marquette and Bellarmine, the #7 Irish started the gauntlet that is their schedule today with a dominant 15-9 win over #3 Georgetown. Next up: road games at #1 Maryland and #9 Ohio State. 1 Quote

But here is a look at the strength of some other schedules. The idea of judging a team's schedule before the season is played is just crazy to me. How do we know Notre Dame is going to only play 3 ranked teams? How do we know those three ranked teams will be ranked at the end of the year? IU only having 3 ranked teams on their schedule? Give me a break, who knows what team could emerge in the Big Ten. I think it's been said on here and it's simple. Be like IU this last year, win them all and there isn't even a question of whether you are in or not no matter who you play. Quote

Even if some of those teams have "above average" years, Notre Dame still wins every game on that schedule by double digits. They'll go into the playoffs ranked somewhere in the Top 3. Quote
