Indiana has already passed legislation that would use significant taxpayer money to build the Bears a new stadium. The Illinois legislature is now considering a bill of its own that would freeze property tax assessments on the team’s proposed stadium in Arlington Heights, allowing the Bears to pay a lot less than they otherwise would have. The Bears have already bought the Arlington Heights site, previously home of a horse racing track, but put plans to build a stadium there on hold when they found out how much they were likely to pay on property taxes there. Whether the Illinois legislation passes may depend on whether enough concessions are put into place to get legislators representing Chicago on board. They want assurances that the Bears’ current location, Soldier Field, will get state support to remain a viable venue for other events, even as the Bears leave. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, who has long opposed spending tax dollars directly on building a stadium, has indicated that he supports the plan to give the Bears a property tax break and hopes the legislature will pass it. The Bears expect to decide between Illinois and Indiana within the next few months. Another "freebie" floated for the Bears, an organization valued at over $8 billion dollars, which will ultimately be paid for by Illinois taxpayers. Quote

Cool .... So now who do you like in the draft? Quote
Coach Nowlin Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Pick 1: DL or LT ( I doubt the good ones would be there at 25 for LT ) Pick 2: S Pick 3: Edge / LT Pick 4: C If SOMEHOW: Dillon Theilman is there at 25 or even around 20 to 21, I could see a small move up from 25 that won't cost them their 2nd rounders.... FUN NIGHT AHEAD Quote
Muda69 Posted April 23 Posted April 23 https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/04/22/chicago-bears-stadium-illinois-house/ Quote The Democratic-run Illinois House on Wednesday passed the latest proposal to help the Chicago Bears build a new stadium in Arlington Heights as lawmakers now look to the Senate to gather enough support to keep the team from relocating to Indiana. The bill spearheaded by state Rep. Kam Buckner of Chicago, who has led House Democrats’ stadium negotiations, passed 78-32. Only a few Democrats opposed the measure, while some Republicans voted for the plan. “My friends on the other side of the aisle and the governor certainly cannot afford for the Bears to leave the state of Illinois, and more time will cause greater expense,” Republican state Rep. Martin McLaughlin of Barrington Hills, who voted in favor of the bill, said late Wednesday during the House debate. “Let’s face it, guys, it’s going to happen, and the longer we wait, I can’t watch billions of dollars more in incentives be thrown away.” The latest bill altered Buckner’s earlier proposal for how special property taxes on the Bears and other developers of so-called megaprojects would be divvied up, a move aimed at sweetening a bill viewed as a favor to the Bears by promoting property tax relief for Illinoisans. Scott Hagel, a spokesperson for the Bears, issued a statement after the bill’s passage Wednesday night that the team welcomes “the progress made on the House’s version of the (megaproject) bill; however, additional amendments are necessary to make the Arlington Heights site feasible for our stadium project.” “We support Illinois leaders as they determine the path forward to making the essential changes to the (megaproject) bill and aligning on infrastructure funding,” the statement said. The bill passed hours after it cleared the Illinois House’s Revenue and Finance Committee by a 15-5 vote on Wednesday afternoon. ... So if the taxpayer-fleecing stadium does get built in Illinois, as it appears more and more to be the case, does that mean the Indiana Legislature will repeal it's taxpayer-fleecing bill that established the Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority? Sparty Posted April 23 Posted April 23 I don’t understand why so many folks don’t like what they see w Booker. I think he needs to be on the field as a DE as much as possible. I think he’s the type that if he plays more, the more needed plays he makes. Whether it is a hurry. Sack. Chase down ball carrier. Maybe I’m missing something. Quote

Not QB heavy, lots are talking how DEEP the 2027 draft is supposed to be, especially at the QB position. I still believe more is better, I would stay put or if you get a 1 in 2027 and 3-5 next year from a needy team, then I think you jump at that. I don't think you should trade up on this draft because the guys worth coming up from 25 to get will cost you a pretty penny, still need more players. I don't even want to trade up 3-5 spots to give up a 2 or 4 .. PASS Also, I am a very vocal AUSTIN BOOKER TRUTHER, I know @Bash Riprock concurs !! 🙂 That's why I don't think they go Edge in round 1 because of how deep it supposedly this draft is in that position. I do think POLES and JOHNSON will continue to keep the Board their Board and will take top pick on their board, as seen and thankfully done with drafting Loveland and Luther and Turner . ( remember Turner VERY talented player, high draft pick very UNLUCKY year 1). MY GUY: Dream Choice: Dillon Thielmann falls to Bears at 25, however, SAFTEY needy teams may start to think about leaping over the Bears for him, team like Chargers trade back. If he is there at 20, I think Cowboys snag him with 2nd of their 1st rounders. Team like 49ers and John Lynch could be aggressive players and jump up for him too. Harrison Smith is LONG IN THE TOOTH, perhaps Vikes at 18 take Westfield Grad !! Either way, he is going Round 1, another great Brohm Recruit Most Realistic Pool of Players available to Take: My Big Board for Bears 1. Kayden McDonald DT Ohio State. NASTY PLUGGER 2. Kionte Scott S. Miami (I like him over kid from Toledo, Miami D was nasty and competition level ) 3. Monroe Freeling OT Georgia (unless he has a poor driving record ). 4. Peter Woods DT Clemson Second Round Thoughts: 2 picks late: If Ponds is there, you jump on that at 59. I believe they will use one of those 2nd round picks for their Center in 2027. (guy they traded for is in contract year) I think their 1st 3 picks will be: DT, DB, C : That DB could be a Hybrd dude like Scott or Ponds or even an All American from Toledo. Would it surprise me if Poles picks an EDGE, nope, especially if that Edge player is high on their board ratings. That's my first attempt after I had some time last few days to dig in and read up on things. Very interesting tidbit about pick 25..... Its been traded 8 out of the last 9 drafts and one draft twice !!! CHEERS Quote

Coach Nowlin Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Fun being in the back end but as Poles said, way different and I love how he didn't overstep their board to fill a EDGE, Great for BOOKER, but man, could of had Curry, but stays home to Colts , that's cool too. Be fun to st Coach Johnson use his new gadget guy they got who runs 428 and is an accomplished return guy. Seems ;like Poles last 3 or 4 drafts has really focused on a taking the productive player from Power conferences rather than sexy numbers combine measurable from non p4 conf.... Good strategy imo. Texas CB has some nice look to him, hope he can be a rotational piece year 1 and then take over from Tyreke......Felt like this draft addressed al to of that: 3rd TE, helps for injury to stay great in their love of 12/13 personnel.....Also if Kole get big money elsewhere then safety net is there in 2027 Center; May win it this year, but 100% is in 2027 : WHO DOESN"T LOVE IOWA LINEMAN !!! Can't imagine being 310 pounds and running sub 5.0 40s..... DT 3/0 Tech could be a nice replacement for Dexter when he doesn't get his 2nd contract. Felt like a Smart Draft for the Bears Front Office: Now time to COACH EM UP 1 Quote
Muda69 Posted April 30 Posted April 30 The Bears get an "F" grade for the 2026 draft, right behind the "D-" Colts: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7240572/2026/04/30/nfl-draft-2026-grades-analytics-winners-losers/ Quote Chicago Bears Dillon Thieneman fell to Chicago, so I can't hate on that pick too much, although I don't think it's the home run most have made it out to be. The Bears then drafted for need by taking center Logan Jones (No. 76 on the consensus board) with the 57th pick. I also thought tight end Sam Roush was a reach, but the worst pick in my model's opinion was that of wide receiver Zavion Thomas at No. 89 — he ranked 213th on the consensus big board. Again, that's just a bad use of draft capital, as Thomas likely would have been available at least a round later.
