Central at Gibson Southern tonight at 6:00.  As usual the GS starters will play 8 plays.  Some fans get frustrated with Coach Hart over this, but I have come to understand his philosophy over the years.

I completely get it. I think more teams should trend that way. Sure, football is football and injuries can happen at any time, but way too often do we hear about impact starters getting hurt in scrimmages. Most teams keep their scheme and playcalls fairly basic in scrimmages anyway. It's also a chance to get the backups and younger guys some experience before the games kick into gear.

Let us know how Central looks after if you get a chance!

Memorial does about the same thing, it makes a lot of sense to avoid injuries and let the younger guys get some reps in.

We look at it as a joint practice basically.

Reitz and MD went ok. Defense will be the Reitz calling card, but offense wasn’t too bad. Reitz has no seniors starting on their offensive line this year, so fairly young up front, but did keep our QB upright most of the scrimmage.

On the flip side, MD struggled running the ball all night, and really only connected on one long passing play. Too many times the Reitz edges beat the MD tackles around the corner last night. It could be a very long year for MD no matter who their QB is if they can’t sure up the o-line.

With the closed conference schedule, not much to get worked up about with Sagarin until week 11 or 12.

Perhaps one day there will be expansion and divisions, which means a chance to slide in some non-conference games.

Final preseason rankings;

1. Castle

2. Memorial

3. Jasper

4. Reitz

5. North

6. Lincoln

7. Mater Dei

8. Bosse

9. Harrison

10. Central

We already saw a sneak peak of Memorial and Castle last in their scrimmage. Rankings 3-6 are somewhat difficult to rank by, I saw Reitz did well with their scrimmage and Jasper is always Jasper. Going to be interesting to see who the new QB at North is, but having Rucker as RB1 will relieve some of the pressure. I have no clue who is replacing Hunt at Lincoln, but they do return some guys. I see Mater Dei improving this year, but it sounded like they were disappointed last week in their scrimmage. Bosse replacing Wagner will be a difficult task, although they have their QB for this season. Harrison returns a lot of starters from last year, but having TE Brooks being out is devastating. Can the Bears finally win this first game since 2021? The bears have a good amount of returning starters

I have to tell you that Central looked very solid on offense.  When the #1s were out there....they have a nice QB... a powerful running RB and a tremendous athlete at WR.

37-6 Memorial over Jasper

45-7 Mater Dei over Central

Pretty much as expected, right? Except maybe Memorial taking Jasper to the woodshed and Harrison scoring 27?

I saw a Twitter conversation saying Reitz and Harrison had a combined over 30+ penalties in the game around the 4Q. Wonder if Harrison had some 4Q touchdowns?
