  1. I see it more as musical chairs. Carmel and CG were tight knit pals leaving the MIC together for a brighter tomorrow in the HCC. HCC said "no", I believe more because of Carmel. MIC is scorned and kicks both out. Carmel doesn't see HCC on the horizon and realizes MIC may be only conference in town to take them. So, distance yourself from your main competitor, ensuring you get one of those spots. Distancing yourself pleases the majority of the MIC, so that's what they do. With hat in hand, they are allowed back in the MIC. Without CG in the MIC, they mop up. Lot more trophies in the case back at the mansion. It has to be much more than a single bball game in which their own coach screwed up royally with his behavior.

  2. Neophytes like yourself have no idea how hard it is to break into the college coaching profession if you miss your window as a graduate assistant. High school coaches approaching 50 years of age are not routinely offered the opportunity to make the jump at mid-major, D1 level. And no, Ben Davis does not compare.

  3. How myopic would you have to be to think that an Indians HS job is preferable to a D-1 assistant position?

  4. If Carmel isn't going to do anything to discipline their boys' basketball coach, then the IHSAA needs to step in!! This sets a very bad precedent for allowing coaches to start physical confrontations with fans!! Their coach purposeful initiates physical contact with high school students, then cries foul when getting shoved. How can the Carmel admin stand by and do nothing??? What a terrible example of character and sportsmanship. How can the IHSAA stand by and do nothing??? Watch the video people!! Very dissapointed. If that happened at a Tech vs Cathedral game... there would be a huge amount of outrage. Carmel just gets a freebie????

  5. I wonder where Carmel swimming would place in the Big Ten.

  6. So you cherry pick one sport and make your case. Brilliant. BTW, a CG diver just won her 2nd straight state championship. Also, given their natatorium, they may not beat Carmel much in the future in swimming, but I bet they hold their own. You tell me...does Carmel, Warren, Cathedral, Ben Davis, etc still have top notch programs after they had excellent head coaches leave or retire? Coach Moore is a legend...no doubt. But he will remain close to the program after he retires, will have big time hand in the replacement, will ensure his pieces still function and one of the best feeder systems in the state will keep chugging along.

  7. Center Grove football wins on every level from 2nd grade all star teams through JV. Eric Moore has built a machine here and deserves all the credit for the success CG has had! Now his former players are taking the lead in the youth program and in the middle schools. Unless CG hires someone from outside the program that tries to start over CG football will be competing for state titles for years to come.

  8. Wait, you are asking whether or not 18 other sports (most if not all of which Center Grove is ranked/near ranked in) will survive once the football/boys track coach calls it quits?

  10. 100% agree PHJ. The video can't be debated. He sends his players around the students as he should, but instead of following them, turned to his left and pushed his way through the kids, making contact with a number of them. He totally instigated the incident. And Carmel admin uses this event to push for separation from CG, claiming CG admin didn't punish a kid enough who received a 3 day suspension for pushing the coach back AFTER the coach made contact with him first? It makes zero sense. There has to be more at play here. Why hasn't the IHSAA stepped in if Carmel admin is unable to hold their coaches to a standard? I have my thoughts, as I guess so do many others. Carmel looks very bad in this case....and it would seem they are willing to do anything to separate themselves from CG and win their way back into the MIC. I just hope the CG admin starts making demands of Carmel or escalates this to the IHSAA forcing their hand. Totally unacceptable.

  11. Indeed. Will we find out how Carmel became more culturally aligned with the MIC?

  12. Calm down TW. We are talking about a middling MAC program here, not an Alabama, USC, or Notre Dame. And I always thought the Ben Davis job was one of the creme dela creme jobs in Indiana high school football? But I guess Mr. Simmons no longer has to concern himself with mundane things like maintaining a teachers' license or educating non-athletes.

  14. FYI (and was curious) but I just read Ludwig’s buyout is 2.8 million from Utah. Guess it’s ok to pay Charlie Weis to stay away for 10 years or whatever it was but not pay that one lump sum to get the guy you wanted to run the current offense. A bit frustrating to say the least and more importantly where do they turn now?

  15. I can see it now… 2038: “Hey coach did you see that we are now ranked number two in the state?” “Yes, I did but rankings don’t matter.” “Who is that team ranked number one and will we ever get to face them?” “No kid, some adults got hurt feelings a few years back and we had too many differences.” “Boy that stinks, I hope I never have to have a job where I work alongside someone I disagree with.”

  16. So let me get this straight.... A coach rightfully directs his team around the students who stormed the court The same coach purposely walks through the heart of the crowd of students, bumping into several of them A kid pushes the coach and gets suspended (the kid shouldn't have pushed the coach, I get it) Soon after the incident, Carmel notifies Center Grove that they want to back out of all future events between the schools Has there been any response at all from Carmel on the matter? Both on the desire to back out of future athletic contests AND any sort of consequence for their coach's immature and stupid actions? Either the coach expected the students to create a path for him through their celebration or he knew there would be some sort of conflict. Either way, it shows arrogance, immaturity and poor leadership. I don't expect the guy to be fired, but there needs to be accountability. I hold adults at a much higher level of expectations than teenage students and I'd hope that Carmel does as well.

  17. Well Said. Also, if you haven't seen the video from the incident.... the Carmel coach is a complete idiot. Totally instigated the entire thing. He pouts cause his team loses and starts stuff with a bunch of high school kids supporting their community and celebrating the win. This was all his fault. How did he not get suspended!!!!
