Agree. It just boils down to the lack of ability with the current conference schedule. We should have two Region teams (Valpo, the Ville, or CP) each year, a top Fort Wayne school each year and two Indy schools yearly. That leaves 4 games for local rival games. That is a lot of travel, but at this point it is what is needed to be considered competitive. Heck even if Penn could join the DAC it would be an upgrade in competition. Ville, Valpo and CP all on the schedule yearly, NC can have Mishawaka still and go to Fort Wayne and pick up Carroll or Snider. If they aren't available you can swing for the fences and go Center Grove, @Grover is saying they have openings they need to fill. Pipe dreams.2 points

Kind of a more severe measure as to what I thought Snider was going thru until this past year when they cut playing 9 SAC games to 7 SAC games and allowing teams to schedule 2 out of conference games. My pipe dream would be that Snider just played Carroll, Homestead, Dwenger, Luers, and North Side in the SAC and play 4 out of conference games against similar skilled opponents.1 point

Just out of curiosity, I checked John Harrell....last season they ranked 24th in 6A and 33rd overall. Not a whole lot of room to drop unfortunaltely. As a Northern Indiana guy I feel Indiana HS football is better when Penn is relavent. If I'm Penn, I'd try and schedule 3-4 of these teams each year Snider, Carroll, Homestead, Crown Point, Carmel, Cathedral, Chicago power, Ohio power, Michigan power.1 point

Right, the schedule through the '04 season is at least below average if not objectively bad by today's standards, but playing Valpo and BD was basically good enough for that time. Under Aldrich, Mishawaka had gone from occasionally tough, to pretty pathetic by the late 90's into the 2000s, so we basically only played Valpo and BD back then. Keeping schools like Cathedral and Carmel on the schedule is the absolute minimum for helping this program be competitive.1 point

They started that two years ago because the major city teams were winning all the titles. Don't really think it has helped that much though. I am still puzzled how a team ranked in the top five in the country plays in their smallest class. And we think we have problems.1 point

Really doesn't seem like a bad idea for Penn to go independent and CMA take their place. Unfortunately I have no idea why the Penn coaching staff is "into" winning the NIC. 9 times out of 10 they should be able to win it just by rolling out of bed. Not much of an accomplishment for the Kingsmen if you ask me. A conference of: New Prairie, Marian, St. Joe, CMA, Riley, Adams, Washington, Elkhart. Doesn't get me too excited but it is a hell of a lot better than with the Kingsmen there. And on any given year 3 or 4 teams are going into the season thinking they can win it; which makes it way more exciting.1 point
