Temp’s Top 25 (8/20/22)

I would rather you just say that no North team will ever win a title like all the other Indy area homers . Quit pretending that you think/hope otherwise. -

Not bitter , but you have always had Indy area Homerism and pretend you want a team from the north to win a championship . -

Should Merrillville be 6a
GOLDRUSH1985 replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
The OP stated , should the Pirates be in 6A , not will the Pirates win championships every year . If any 6A team wins Regionals 3 years in a row , they belong in the class and are more than likely a top 15 team , regardless what happens after that . Being top 15 out of 32 again says they belong in the class . -

Yes , I wasn't jabbing at BD but making a point. Just because teams lose deep into the tourney by wide margins doesn't mean they don't belong in the class . Most often than not , If your deep into the playoffs , your better than the majority of said class . -
Should Merrillville be 6a
GOLDRUSH1985 replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
So I guess Ben Davis doesn't belong in 6A either , because they have also whiffed the last 3 years on the big stage in the tourney 110-29. To answer the OP question , yes in most years the Pirates would be in the upper half of 6A teams . -

NIC REGIONAL # 1 Penn at Merrillville

Not sure that's an award . I did not think Penn would beat Chesterton, they have a slim to no chance of beating the Pirates . I think the only teams matching up with Merrillville this year are in the Indy area . I would love for the Pirates to go down and shock the state at LOS . -
NIC Teams in Sectional Championships

Penn hasn’t won a sectional since 2017, it’s been a rough few years. -
NIC Teams in Sectional Championships

That was a shocker, Penn avoids it’s 1st losing season since 1976. They will live for 1 more week. -
NIC Teams in Sectional Championships

I don't think Penn played better down the stretch. It was who they were playing that made them appear better . They started the season playing a highly ranked 5A team then 2 nationally ranked teams . Just 3 weeks ago , Penn could only score 7 Points on New Prairie . -
NIC Teams in Sectional Championships

Motivation is only a factor when teams are close in talent or not far apart as you put it . Lets look at common opponents of Chesterton and Penn. (Valpo 35 Penn 7) - (Valpo 10 Chesterton 7) , (LaPorte 21 Penn 14), ( Chesterton 42 LaPorte 6). Looking at these scores ,why in the world would you think Penn and Chesterton aren't that far apart ? To me , it looks like they are very far apart . That is why any such motivation or (who want's it more ) by either team won't matter . Chesterton wins because of more talent , athletes etc , and that usually always trumps motivation . -
NIC Teams in Sectional Championships
GOLDRUSH1985 replied to ASJCPUMA's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Don't think motivation will be a factor , as Penn will be motivated to not have the first losing season in 50 years . I think Chesterton wins because they are the better football team . -
NIC Teams in Sectional Championships
GOLDRUSH1985 replied to ASJCPUMA's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Chesterton is better on both sides of the ball. Penn's offense struggles against good/average defenses . Penn was only able to manage 7 points against Valpo and NP . Heck , they only put up 14 against LaPorte . Chesterton would have to have an absolute meltdown to lose this game . On a brighter note , Penn will be getting it's wrestlers after Friday . -

Chesterton just blanked a Portage team that whipped Laporte . Penn lost to Laporte . Chesterton will stack the box and stop Penn's running game . Chesterton should also expose Penn's secondary . Since the game is at Penn , it will be a little closer . Chesterton 28-10 -

Penn has rolled because they are playing weak NIC teams . There are 4-5 DAC teams that would roll Any and All NIC teams this year . Think Penn is way to one dimensional on offense to beat Chesterton . -
N.I.C. SECTIOANL SEMI FINAL GAMES
GOLDRUSH1985 replied to ASJCPUMA's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Looks about right except the Penn score . Don't see them beating Elkhart at Rice Field . Penn's offense is terrible and the defense isn't much better. The season should be over next week with whoever wins at Rice field . -
WEEK # 8 - Northern Indiana Conference
GOLDRUSH1985 replied to ASJCPUMA's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
The kids migrating to Edwardsburg was one of only a hand full of the issues at Penn . You mentioned a couple of my others . When players aren't buying or believing , that's on the coach . This has been an issue for several years now . It is time for a change at Penn , but I think we know that won't happen . There is not a single issue causing the problems at Penn . It is a culmination of several issues . -

WEEK # 8 - Northern Indiana Conference
GOLDRUSH1985 replied to ASJCPUMA's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Absolutely . Penn is been extremely down the last few years . They went from dominating the DAC for 30 years to being maybe middle pack in the DAC . I see them making another early exit in the sectional . Don't see them beating Chesterton . I think it's a combination of a few things , one being that they have run the same offense for over 40 years . Another is a lot of family's migrating to Edwardsburg, MI for the small school experience. It's no coincidence that Edwardsburg, MI has gotten so good the last few years . Look for them to repeat as state champions this year . -

This is not one of there biggest or athletic teams ??? Nice observation , it is in fact one of there worst teams since the 70's. And yes ,playing NIC teams is a much different level than playing 3 Highly ranked teams(2 of them Nationally Ranked) .
